My dad who was a WWII vet, said in the 50’s you could buy dynamite in the hardware store. Store guy showed him how to rig the caps and everything. He used it to blast holes in the ice to make open water for duck hunting.
I was probably about 10, maybe 1963/4 when a crew turned up across the road from where i lived and began to blast rock to make a road. it was all down hill and it was summer. I took cool cordial over and they taught me how to put the "gelignite" in the holes. i think they used that. I would then wire the plunger after the huge rope mats were over it. then I'd get to plunge. it was great, i had a great time, and i collected the used wire to sell but it ended up getting tossed. Great memories! Thank you.
Those were the days my friend! If I were to allow the neighbors kids to fire a shot today, they would throw the book at me++++ Thanks for watching and contributing.
My grandfather used to be a blaster. I used to go with them when I was a kid, but when he passed away, it was the end of it. For some reason, you remind me of him. Thx
"loaded into lay flat tubing that is considerably smaller than the hole diameter, to decouple the shock component of the blast energy and reduce the shattering" Oh, that is a mighty clever trick! That's going in my toolbox, you never know when the need might arise. Excellent thinking.
Nicely set up and executed shot. Great visuals and editing on the video. First time I've seen the plastic sleeves used. Would be great when working with wet holes. Would like to see a followup on the size of the rock when the farmer starts starts moving the spoil. Thanks for the video!
The use of lay flat plastic tube is standard procedure for using ANFO in wet holes, now days it is used less because of the proliferation of pumped emulsion trucks.
@@demolitiondavedrillandblast We used the emulsion years ago in the coal mines that I worked in. It worked great but the cost was more than twice that of ANFO. There was also something call drill that could be used. Again, it was way more expensive.
Hi Lee, work has been down a little, I have been a bit slack on making and producing video recently, trying to get back into it, got some more in the production pipeline.
What a great way to start my Sunday morning. Good cup of coffee and a double blast from Demolition Dave. Thank you David for the awesome content as usual.
Thanks for tuning in and contributing. UA-cam is not very kind to me, when I look at the viewer statistic very closely I can see that some videos get buried when they should really get wings, I can say this because I can see that the thumbnail click-through rate is high and the viewer retention is high and the like/dislike ratio is high be it only gets shown to subscribers and not offered to others. Just another example of woke nonsense, censorship and punishing all those who do not drink the cool-aid.
Hi Dave .. nicely done ''shak'em loose job''... nice bit of gentle lift. The low VOD approach reminds of the old slate quarry blasters who used just black power. Looks like you were filling plastic sausages with ANFO.
They still do Chris, one not very far from me, after trying many options over the years that have been promoted by various hopeful sales people... the keep coming back to BP.
That's...That's a lot of anfo. Dave knows how to roll the big ones! Good to see ya, mate. I hope the winter isn't too soggy for you. Cheers from North Carolina, US.
Two very successful blasts there Dave I thought. Good amount of material lifted and no damage done to the surroundings. That drone shot of the 10 hole blast gave a far better perspective of the amount of material lifted. Top job mate. Cheers.
Hi Dave, Awesome video! Those were some mighty fine home-made sausages you used! Don't remember seeing them before. It might be a while before the birds come back to those trees! hehehe Great to see you! Thumbs up! Be safe. Jim
Didn't worry the birds mate, did you hear them immediately after the blast, chirping away, business as usual for them. Aussie birds mate, nothing fazes them. Cheers.
Neat to see you mix the explosives in a concrete mixer and actually make the tubes yourself. I think that's the first time I've seen you do that. Nice video. 👍
@@markfryer9880 🤔 Yeah, I agree. He must have got the mixer because he had such a large amount of materials to mix together and to make sure they were incorporated together correctly.
Anfo sock blasting, great to see but fun to make, it's also great to see the bigger blast too, I so wish you could do more like these but houses need rock removed too 😊
DAVE'S BACK!!! Great video my friend! You got some awesome shots there.... both demolition and camera that is! I'll be here when the next video drops, be safe! Cheers 🍻
And here I thoughtt you were making balloon animals 😂 lovely show as always, interesting seeing the colour change when you blew up the scorched earth(the shadow in the beginning)
This is standard procedure when I encounter wet holes as this explosive is extremely hydroscopic, however this technique was used here for a different reason.
When the rock is cruched into the hole also I use the same sistem, but I put a cartritge into the plastic and send it into the hole, after I cut it from the top and I put a second cartritge with the detonador, after I full it with nitrate amonium ...
Well, you've certainly come back with a big bang Dave. Can't think that I have ever seen you using a cement mixer to mix your ANFO before. Just as a matter of interest, how much fuel oil gets mixed with a kg of prills?
My dad who was a WWII vet, said in the 50’s you could buy dynamite in the hardware store. Store guy showed him how to rig the caps and everything. He used it to blast holes in the ice to make open water for duck hunting.
100% when I stared out in 1993, there were at least 3 hardware shops in Melbourne that sold the stuff.
@@demolitiondavedrillandblast Good grief! Three in Melbourne. I must not have visited the right ones then!😅
W.E. Cash in Richmond, Burgandy Hardware in Heildelburg and Mitre 10 Arkhana in Dandenong
Burgundy Hardware in Heidelberg, was that the Plumbing Supplies just below the railway bridge on Burgundy St Heidelberg?
Yes.
We have missed you Dave.... AND what you post! The truly ELEGANT slow-mos!
Thanks for watching Michael.

All good down here.

It certainly brightened my day seeing you back again. Spectacular carnage, it would appear. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Robert

Oh, that is a mighty clever trick! That's going in my toolbox, you never know when the need might arise. Excellent thinking.
Indeed it is and it actually works! You need to post some video on your channel.
Nice that you didn't have to worry about covering the blast area with dirt.
At the start I wondered what was going to be blasted. You got me, that was way bigger than I expected
i was wondering what was going on myself it said sandstone but that looked like a coal seam outcrop!!
Nothing better than watching your videos when I am retired.

Dave I sure am glad you made a big blasting return. Fabulous BIG explosions, Take care
Great to have a new video Dave. It looks like you fulfilled the brief to the letter. Nice part of the world to be working too. Regards from Scotland.
Thanks 👍, I'm still here LLD.
Nice to see you Dave. Where have you been mate. It was nice to see some stones flying. Take care of yourself and see you soon👍👍👍👍👍👍

Glad you enjoyed it Brian.
Glad to see you back making videos , and this one didn't disappoint.
Love the uncovered blasts!
Not just you.
An explosive expert at his best
Looked like you gave the farmer what he wanted, Dave. Good content for us.
Yep, and he gave me what I wanted.
It's been a few minutes since we have seen you. It is great to see you again.
See you again soon!
Mixing Anfo the easy way. Thats a lot of C4 in the bottom of the sock! I guess its the farmers gravel pit.
It's great to see you again. 🏴
Refreshing to have a video from Dave again.

nice job, these special jobs must be fascinating and thought provoking to work out how you're doing it.
good stuff
I have really missed your videos. Love your open air blasts.
More soon Tom.
Good to see a fresh video and opening with a blast was a bonus! Thanks Dave!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Great seeing an expert at work and found your comments on how the job was done interesting as it was unusual with the snakes
Awesome to see you back, Dave. Interesting brief but beautifully executed as only you can! Thanks for taking the time to video, edit and share.
Glad you enjoyed it SS
Dave... we all get a real blast by your perfection... yup... exactly perfect...
Thanks.
Glad your back!! "And the earth moveth again"

Hey Dave, Great seeing you are still at it. Miss those weekly video's. Made the earth rise a bit on this one. Thanks for shring.
More to come!
Cheers 🍻
Yeah, I'll get another video up soon Cosmo.
Nice to see the raw power shots Dave instead of those swimming pool hobbies that need covering up! Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Well that made the earth move well done Dave.
Sure did!
Go strong Devo, my friend!
More coming soon.
Yes Dave was s bit hard into the shadow but
Wow what a lift that wax a big one loved the different views
Well done another good one
For our Sunday viewing pleasure!!!!!!!!!!!

Things go BOOM! Instant thumbs up.
Another job well done dave
Interesting technique. You are a master of the art.
Thank you.
Another great video, Dave. Thanks for posting 👍
Thanks for watching and contributing Peter.
Nice job Dave. Greetings from the Netherlands 😊
Thanks for the visit.
Howdy demo Dave glad to see a video
Yeah... it's been a while TB, more soon.
A nice boom to start my day. Thanks! Any idea what the farmer is doing with the rock? Or were they just clearing the space?
There is a clue in the video description.
Oh, it was more than a clue. 😂. Thx. Enjoyed the boom.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
g;day Dave and welcome back

I was just thinking good to see you.
Thanks scruffy.
Thank you Dave That sure had a lot of lift😂.
Still amazes me every time I can see the delays in wire going off, then get to see the shift of the earth as each hole goes up.
That is how it works.
That was really interesting to watch, thanks very much.
More video coming soon.
another good job dave
4 👍's up demolition Dave the explosive guy on UA-cam
I love your work
Me too Troy!
Attaboy Dave. Another truly interesting vid instead of lies made up on others junk vids.
Those are some spicy sausages Dave😂🤣😅🍻
Nice shot❤
Cool video as always. Stay safe out there
Thanks Chris.
Actually the shadow helps to show the flash of the det cord. I wish you could leave more of it exposed, it's fun to watch.
whooohoo BIG DAVE is back!! welcome back i gotta ask a its the first time ive seen you use plastic tube to hold the material
This is standard procedure when I encounter wet holes as this explosive is extremely hydroscopic, however this technique was used here for a different reason.
Interesting - socks and ANFO ? seems different requirements from hard rock.
No... ANFO gets plenty of use in hard rock, but ANFO is definitely better in the softer stuff.
G'day Dave awesome video mate
