I am Khmer Krom from South Vietnam/Kampuchea Krom now living in USA. I've study Khmer and Southeast Asia history the people's in this video are the Dai/Tai people from Xishuangbana Yunan province China. Xishuangbana Yunan was conquered by Khmer king Indravarman 1 in year 887 when he expanded the Khmer Empire northward to China border. Xishuangbana or Chiang Hung was part of the Khmer Empire from 887 till 1181 that's almost 300 years so off course they were influenced by Khmer. They received their independence from Khmer in 1181 the same year as the 4 years long Khmer-Cham War (1177-1181)ended under king Jayavarnman 7 ruled. During that time Khmer Empire controlled the Mekong River from Xishuangbana to Luang Prabang to Vientiane to Prey Nokor ( To Chi Minh City Vietnam) out to the Pacific Ocean. The Dai/Tai/Thai/Lao alphabet was derived from Khmer alphabet their written languages didn't exist before the 14th century. The Thai they said it themselves their alphabet was base on the Khom alphabet. Khom is a Tai/Thai word is what they call Khmer people just like the Viet call Khmer people Khom Me or Khome or the America call Khmer Cambodian. Go search and study about king Indravarman then search and study Xishuangbana Yunan then study the Dai/Tai/Thai/Lao history and their languages. Again I'm from Vietnam and in Vietnam the Dai/Tai people are still tribal people living near the Lao border

Maybe you need to learn how to blame your weak Kings and your weak leaders for losing the land. If your King was so great, you wouldn't lose your territory, right? Look at the present days, your Prime Minister sold his sovereignty or his head to China and Vietnam. Who is to blamed? Your corrupted beaurcrate without law and order or are you just going to keep blaming your neighbors, from your own failure? If you say the Thai, influenced by the khmer, why don't you give Indian some credit?, khmer alphabet, numeral, religions and sanskrit was all influenced by the Indian.
that's so great to hear from you. unfortunately in Cambodia we difficult to find the books that was written clearly in history. Government should inspire their young generations to research our history to reveal to the world. other ways, I'm really fond of you who khmer krom but you know khmer history better than me

When I was in High School I didn't read just one book I spend many days many hours reading many books and did a lot of internet searching mostly Google search. Then on weekends I went to the public library in my city to study. So I,'ve read all the books about Cambodia,Thailand, Vietnam and Lao at my school library and my city public library. There are no book tell the whole history you have to read multiple books about each countries and do multiple research then add everything up. It sad that present day Khmer lost all the knowledge and forgotten our whole true history. We can gain all this again by going to school to study and research

I agree that some history books could not be completed. On the other hand, the author of the book could write something that he heard from one to other, which mean he didn't see or appeared at the actual moment. And some author could include their thought as well. When I was a little girl. I strongly believe whatever the history books said. By the time that I grew up and went through many experiences of life, something from the history books that I don't believe that it was true. For example, some books said that "the king was a good king" and some books said " that king was not good". So from this, I assume that the author just took a side of someone and wrote down to what his thoughts, like or dislike about that king or that person.

True the Khmer dance is the one that doesn’t make sense to me. We took a lot of culture from India, Mon and Java right before mixing with Thai/Lao. The dances in India , Mon and Java are very quick and fast moving pace. Why is Cambodia slow? I always wonder but I think it’s because we copied the moves from the walls and to follow it, it became slow and robotic. I think the original old apsara dance etc were more similar to how India, Java and Mon dance fast.
It slow because thai just teach them only basic Thai dance.
@@bluewish1427 Khmer people have their own dances and it was used in Angkor period, Thai people captured our Apsara dancers and took them to Ayuthaya to teach the Thai how to dance this exclusive dance was only performed to the king and during religious ceremony, similar to our neighbors of Champa who also had Apsara dancing but they dressed and dance differently. Highly doubt y’all teach us your dances 😂. Capture our dancers to teach us your dance? Now now please use common sense my dear.

Excellent points and total agree with your thesis statements. Those ancient manuments were built and indicated to different religions. Before twelve century, based on world renown scholars and academic research papers have revealed that ancient Khmers were highly intellectuals, confidences, crasfmanships, wariors, and kinds. The main principal of ancient Khmer civilization was the society always first; ancient Khmer religious doctrines and beliefs stated that if one who wishes to become enlightenment after life one needs to help others first such as doing charity works, trying to eliminate under poverty people, and giving hand to the needed people. Khmer was the first country in the world who offered free health care to all citizens. Ferthermore, they also provided shelters and fed the homeless. Besides, Khmer built countless educatioal institutions to educate their people, mastered in agricultural technolies, civil and mechanical engineerings, and so on. If one careful evaluates and studies world academic documents of acient Khmer before the twelve century (do not study documents in Cambodian language because of bias and not revealing all the facts due to the current versions of its religious beliefs), Khmer civilization had been fallen many times but sooner became risen up again and even stronger than the previous one. After the twelve century, based on scholarly documents, Khmer civilization has not been like before. After the twelve cecury, the new Khmer Era has been destoyed those geat namuments; afer they destoyed those, they installed sloppying of its religious scpoutus where the previous one. The new khmer regime becomes weaker and weaker, lack of education, identities, imconfidences, cannot feed themselves, living in savage society, lose its teriteries to its neighbors, became its neighbors' colonies, fight each other to control power by asking its mastering neighbors to help. The root causes of those problems are the new religious, its beliefs. The ner geligion stated that to be enlightenment after life one needs to help itself and to use others for own personal gain, and care itself first. If one is curious about this doctrine just go to visit the Khmer temple and looks the drawing adjacent to the ceiling, when the begar asked the selfishly stringy man to give his wife and children to be the slaves of the bager and man did so because he wanted to become enlightened after life without having any compassion to his wife and children. No wonder, the new Khmer Era after twelve century is destroying its great, glorified, and manificent civilization and society.
After the 12th century, it was nothing but a power struggle and usurper kings. I mean Cambodia almost became a Christian nation because of the King who sided with the Spanish-Portuguese. I think the huge downfall for the Khmer was during the 19th century.

History must be rewritten cause everything from the Cambodia Royal Chronicle doesn't fit with today's information. Every other month Cambodia and the archeologist have been doing a great job finding inscriptions. I feel like everything in Cambodia is coming back.
