So if you give that bottom 16mm bolt a little tappity-tap before you pull it all the way out it will push the nut back and make it easier to take out because that nut (that you can't see) slides back and forth a little so it holds better, aaaaaaaaa neee ways...

Why would you not pull out the airbox with the filter it's faster simpler and your filter is exposed to outside elements

Where did you get the fan clutch removal tool and what's the price?
I think I bought on Amazon for $20 or so. Search - BMW E46 Clutch Fan removal tool. Hope this helps.
I made mine, it ain't purdy but it does the job!
