Hey gang! Great seeing you all here! (disclaimer, I am with Lighthouse Labs :) ). I would like to add a bit of explanations about Ruby on Rails in addition to what's been said. Ruby on Rails is just one of the 7 core projects. Like Caitlin pointed out, be able to learn a new language on your own it's a good skill to have. RoR is really different from Express/NodeJS. You have to change your mindset a bit. A more technical reason is that Ruby enforces object-oriented principles. You can do OOP with JS, but it does not enforce anything. Ruby provides the opportunity to code with a truly OOP language. Ruby on Rails teaches you also the MVC pattern that is well known in the industry and many other frameworks are using.

      Thanks, that explanation is useful.

RoR is very borderline, meaning if you find the role it will be highly paid, but to find that role is very hard, because RoR is no longer actual framework. Should replace it with type script and redux

@@uulecrocodile8437 So basically, why not upgrade to a more current language like python? You get the same OOP lessons, but now with a language that is more marketable.

Thank you for this, I'm looking to attend LHL so this was really insightful and made me feel a lot more confident about taking the plunge. I wanted to mention that they have a free Python course that I'm actually going through right now, and a coding challenge that focuses on Python that's about to start, so maybe they took this sort of feedback to heart (no idea how old the course is or anything).

Hey guys, I see you have an "active" convo here and solid responses. So maybe I can get some answers from you guys. In the past months I've started to prepare to go to college for a full stack developer program, so basecly taking a calculus course, and researching everything related to that program, then I stumbled upon the bootcamp option, and this really turned my world upside down. My question is: is it worth doing a 2 year Full stack developer program, which will involve a lot of work prior to school, and possible acceptance into the college or should I go the bootcamp way? I'm 36 and wasting time isn't in my best interest, especially if there are faster routes into the industry.

Hi Don, I am really glad to see the Canadian Bootcamp reviews over here. Thanks for doing this. If it is possible to arrange a session with Juno College's graduates, that would be really beneficial for the bootcamp candidates like me :)

Are the career services really worth the extra 4000$ or should I take the non job help. To save money. Applied to lighthouse labs

Why would you pay 10-15-20k for a bootcamp to begin with?
What was so hard about self study? It’s not like anything that was taught isn’t documented in books or other forms of media? And I know that companies would love to hire an eager beaver and teach them the trades on the job! At least here in Europe. Firstly the are cheaper in the beginning and you don’t have to unlearn bad habits from school or previous trainings etc.

@@complextheory9529 rubbish. Structure is a part of discipline. The best engineers I know, are either drop outs or self taught.
