I remember buying this and then listened to it on my mission speakers as the vinyl spun on my technics sl1200's white stuff come out of my ears, yes ladies and gentlemen my ears shot a mother load
@@yesgeorge333 Both versions of Funktion are great but this one hits different. If you're super into Funktion and you rated that Marky and Bungle version that never came out there's a recent Bungle tune that is very much along the same lines of Funktion.
Yeah... this tune has way more soul ale thought put into than Funktion. This track takes a bit more imagination to mix as well. Funktion can mix into pretty much anything.
It’s like Rock Baby / Driver. Driver was criminally under rated and under played compared to the flip. I love Funktion and all the other huge dancefloor destroyers they put out in the late 90s. but the wonky funk drenched steppers like naked lunch, driver, bounce, dozer. Mystery machine. These ones just resonate with me more in my old age. Ed Rush & Optical were peak neurofunk. They pretty much started the sound and nobody has ever done it better since. Including them 😂 I used to be a big techstep & neurofunk head. But the new stuff from guys on that side of things just isn’t doing it for me. It’s lost the funk. Drums got all synthetic and sterile. Just started to become drilling non stop midrange aggression. Most of what people are calling “neuro” now, sounds more like riddim brostep than classic virus, konflict or C4C to me. Cant go wrong with that classic virus crew stuff. They were on another level from 97-2001.
@@hazmatproduction4562oh man, what a comment, yeah you're singing from my hymnsheet here for real. as far as new stuff in this vein goes, I'm sure you heard that brief period of Fracture & Neptune releases when they came out of the drumfunkier stuff and went all early Virus-like for a bit. "Dustball" sounds like a lost Photek & Optical dub if you pitch it down just a notch or two. On a more current tip there's a few heads trying to do something interesting here and there, but mostly the sort of people who used to copy Optical without understanding what made him worth copying are now trying to copy Noisia, Skeptical and Mefjus (without quite understanding what makes them worth copying either). Optical and Matrix' downfall was that they started getting influenced by the people who'd absolutely ripped them off, and their productions were the worse for it.
The genius that emanates from break beats.
I remember when it came out and was just fucking blown away.....i loved all they did from the start....
This duo never failed to deliver. Track after track after track. Legends!!!

haha eargasm
Oooooh those basslines!
Nasty and smooth!
This bass always had me. Can't get enough of this track since 15 years now...
timeless
4:50 love that rollin section 🎵🔥🥰
Sounds just like a Decoder tune, the sound and style.
Naked Lunch is the best tune on this record by a distance imo. One of the best things Ed Rush and Optical ever did, pure late night sleaze.
cmon mate this is a killa tune but funktion is fucking mental

This stands after like 20 years as easily one of the top 5 tracks I ever ran into back in the day.
I'll admit this took me a few listens to get in to but my god is this incredible
mad bassline
it sounds like its played with bass guitar, i hope it is :3

Man, I would sell my fu**ing kidney to be in rave when it came out...
I was. When the original drum funk was around.
it was a great time indeed
After being in raves for so long I’ll take that kidney
never got enough love this track, Funktion was preferred. but tbh, this one has probably aged better
