Very good question why is it not criminal negligence, well they are rich at Norfolk southern they do what they can with no fear ? They can afford to do this all over the USA and no one can stop them. Rich corporations do what they want when they want because money like greed can take care of anything is the mindset of these kinds of people but there are a limited few who believe in donations to Charity, donations for undoing any wrong that was done to people.

They already know the Creeks are contaminated. They only said the municipal water was safe. They also said the air is safe but didn't say the level of toxins exceeds short-term exposure risk. Or the conservative news in addition to the most vocal locals have complained to the point that everyone will remember. If there is not much actual pollution norfolk southern will not pay out much. The house and land value will suffer from the memory of the story for a long time. These people now have to hope that there is a lot of pollution so they get a big check from the railroad. Good luck convincing a potential home buyer that there is no pollution after all of this outcry, even if there is no pollution. It's possible all these people have just shot themselves in the foot. Mostly in an attempt to score a political win against their perceived political enemies. Good luck to all. I am left not knowing whether to hope that there is no pollution, or a lot of pollution?

Moving on, the railroad company should be paying big time for this since it was their negligence that caused it, not offering a one time payment as long as they're off the hook for anything later. Then they can start maintaining their equipment as they should've been and be checked upon to be sure they are doing so. Media coverage, that's a good one! Thanks for a good report. Would definitely encourage continued independent testing. Key word - independent. With all due respect, even these different universities should be checked out and not just accepted for face value. To give an example, you can easily find that Texas A&M gets funding from the oil industry. How connected is the oil industey to NS? I'm just an observer but it's not a big leap to see how those dots might connect. On the other hand, Purdue gets roughly about 75% of it's funding from the National Science Foundation, the NIH and the Dept. of Defense. Where does that path lead, or come from? What about the other 25%? Hopefully not right back to the oil industry. You can see the difference in the feedback you are getting. How are any of these entities testing? Are they being thorough to look for all possible contaminants? If people are still getting sick that should tell everybody something - No - the water, air and don't forget the soil are not pristine, or anywhere close.
If somebody (like the governor) tells you "it's ok", make them prove it. Again, what kind of testing are they doing? What kind of equipment are they using? Are they being thorough and comprehensive or taking shortcuts? Where is the data? Has it been "fudged"? This may sound extreme but this kind of thing happens.
Mr. Walton does appear to be doing a good job.
Many thanks for your efforts. Hang in there.

I worked at an independent environmental testing lab before and met many people who worked at other labs…I’ll say this, these private labs are extremely shady with regards to what they find and report. It’s actually more likely the government testing labs are more accurate with what they report. However, I totally understand the distrust, so with that said, it would put more pressure on the authorities and Norfolk Southern to do more for people if you bring in international expertise to do the testing.

The people of that community are wise to demand more independent testing than the government or railroad is offering as proof of the "safety" of their environment. Those "official" toxicity tests thresholds are set at levels far above the concentrations necessary to hurt human life, or, they don't test for some toxins at all (even though they could be present). Just like the railroad, setting the thresholds for heat sensors on the rail car axles so high that the fire burned under the car for at least 10 miles before engineers got an alarm.......but by then their efforts to safely stop the train were too little/too late. 💔🙏🙏

Why wait couple weeks for independent testing? Also, I heard there is something call MyID that they trying to test there.

NS should errored on the side of caution ⚠️ And provide a safe environment for the town they nuked while correcting the problem the RR Co. is responsible to do. They should pay the people sufficiently for their loss, their health related issues from the chemical disaster, and relocation costs to wherever they can find employment or restart the businesses they lost. What a mess they made. Their trains shoul be prohibited from rolling through East Palestine until the town's people are surrounding areas are compensated! Maybe that would light a fire 🔥 under Norfolk Southern's butt!

    This is just terrible.
One thing I think about is the initial fire; 1/2 mile long, plastic pellets (and what else) for at least two full days.
Then that mushroom cloud. They had a fairly limited zone and dropped fallout over several counties in three states.
Totally insufficient response on all levels CYA big time. Dewine and Regan are worse than useless. Hopefully Shapiro will get something done.
I live 18 miles NE of the site; thanks a bunch.
