Jim Cornette looks 15 in this video. This just shows the level of talent that Memphis always had coming through. They were always either on their way up to the big time at NWA/WWE or on their way down from there. Buddy Landell, Koko B. Ware, Jimmy Hart, Jim Cornette, all on a studio wrestling show in little 'ol Memphis, Tennessee.

The southern territories were awesome. Remember the business was very different back then, the money was made on house shows and tv was just there to sell tickets.

No one in the history of wrestling has ever had a cross word to say about Jimmy Hart whether in Memphis or in New York. He neither drank nor drugged and did people well throughout his career.

So he took the Stagger Lee character from JYD? JYD was doing it in 1982..he lost a loser leaves town for 90 days match and the next week a new wrestler showed up called Stagger lee and EVERYONE knew it was JYD in a mask...Ted DeBiase lost his $hit because he kept trying to prove it was JYD and no one believed him. After 90 days were up Stagger lee mysteriously disappeared and JYD showed back up.

Stagger Lee was Koko B. Ware behind the mask, he later teamed with Norvell Austin and became the P.Y.T. Express (Pretty Young Things, or should I say “Pretty, Young & Tough”).

Hart,Cornette,Bruno, Robert Fuller,Gossett and Bowdwn.Memphis wrestling gave birth to some great heel managers.Did Bobby heenan and Fred Blassie ever work the Memphis territory?

    • @uofmrebel

I don't think Blassie did. The only time I know Heenan was around Memphis was when he was the manager for Nick Bockwinkel who had some title bouts against Lawler in the late 70's, early 80's.

These Lawler fans are delusional about the creativity of Memphis wrestling. They never came up with their own stories and gimmicks. The fans there was socially isolated so bad(no other wrestling promotions wasn't allowed airtime there) that most Americans couldn't have a decent conversation with them.
