Disagree with your take, although it is subjective anyways. Alot of my lady friends identify with and enjoy games alot more if they can play a female character in the game. None of them hate men or anything, they just like playing a woman as the main character if possible. So it does matter alot to people, hell Asmon won't even play female characters in games even if they look interesting, so men are the same way.
Some don't care. And to some, it actually helps with their enjoyment quite a bit.

The problem isn't even about that, a doom with a doom girl would be hella fun. That the story is always so bad, men are always the bad guys, stupids or can't do anything without the woman (would be cool if they write a good story) and the reason why they get all things handled to them is because they are a woman. Not because they worked hard, received a magical item which she needs to learn who to use it or anything. Even doom guy had to go to hell and back, sacrifice everything to become the massive hero he is and that goes to all male characters people love, kratos, john marston, CJ and much more man.

    • @LKN117
      @LKN117 5 місяців тому +33

@@Regarded69 A couple things to add to the Alien movie female lead. Personally I feel that when watching the movie you get a sense that Ripley is even more vulnerable than a male lead would have been in the movie. Which lends to itself when she actually accomplishes the impossible. Like if there had been a male lead you just kind of subconsciously expect him to succeed. Because, typically for a male lead to actually stand out he generally has to appear "superior" to the other male characters around him I.E. Arnold in the Predator movie. Everyone around him is already "peak male" but you can still tell he's "different" than the rest of the characters. Ripley on the other hand does not have that. She already stands out due to being a female lead in a movie like that. So ultimately even thought she is a strong female lead she has to struggle and fight for everything instead of just being hand held through the movie with easy plot points.

These games are in spectrum of their own. You can choose how to be in these games. We are talking where the story is fix and you make characters 100% badass outta the get go or based on certain ideologies. Sadly this translates to most female lead characters nowadays. The US isn't the best anymore in movies, games, or any media. You can clearly see the difference in quality if you watched alot of international media. So I will say this about Square Enix (formerly Square Soft) and Final Fantasy, while the department was never called EGS, they have been censoring/altering content of their games for specific regions and cultures since at least FF VII. The Orthopedic Underwear was actually just Tifa's panties in the Japanese version. FF VIII one of the Garden's SeeD's uniforms had an arm patch that was removed for the releases outside of Japan. Square has always done this self censoring thing.

did anybody even read what the guy actually from the ethics team actually wrote? Rev ripped his words completely out of context. He wrote that he has a huge responsibility for not removing content unjustified out of games, and that he did his best job when end users can´t even notice there were changes in the first place. Also for different cultures there is absolutely a need for slight changes or maybe censorship in media. Things that are viewed unproblematic in one culture can be totally inappropiate in another one. Just to give you an example, i´m from germany and while the rest of the world nowadays depicts nazis much more liberal and sometimes even glorifies them, that is still a huge no-go here in germany, because its part of our culture now to remember the mistakes we as a society made and to make sure history won´t repeat itself.

Final Fantasy 7 actually has really strong and confident female characters. But these characters were written in the 90's where it wasn't a requirement that females replace masculinity in every single way. They didn't trade their beauty and femininity for being a new kind of Win Diesel. Look at Tifa, she is a hell of a fighter, OP af, but still she is gorgeous and has a beautiful caring empathetic character that one would rather find in a female than in a male character. It's the fan service that brought these characters back just as they were in the 90's and that's the reason why they are beloved today as they were back then.

The situation can be understood in two ways. Firstly, some women may promote body positivity and weight gain to reduce competition by making others less physically appealing. Secondly, promoting weight gain can help individuals feel more content with their own life choices, as it offers a sense of validation. This could be a reason why shows like "My 1000lb Sisters" are popular. They provide viewers with a comparison that can make them feel better about their own size, with the notion "I may be overweight, but I'm not _that_ fat," thereby reducing their own anxiety.

I was thinking about the end parts of this video and somethings popped in my head, Heavy rain has a fantastic portrayal of people and very human ways you can interact with people, within a game.
One of the characters is a middle-aged fat detective, which we tend to like him as he's mild-mannered detective who we think is trying to do right and find evidence of the origami killer by going to past victim's houses.
The dad is seen by pretty much everyone as crazy, or deadbeat as a crappy father, and even his son thinks so a bit depending on your actions, however the father after losing one kid is not going to lose another kid, the dad is trying his best for his son he has left and will do ANYTHING to protect him.
There's a female reporter that you play as well, and everything you do feels wrong, like snooping through peoples shit, and you're put in positions where you are very paranoid about people doing bad things, but the more you snoop through their personal information the closer you get to the truth and eventually uncovering the "origami killer" which is who takes the dad's last remaining kid kicking the story off into high gear.
Each character is imperfect, and even woefully flawed, but each character has values and positive traits that bring the story to a happy conclusion, but none of them feel as if it's forced down your throat, or done as something to get your way, or impose on someone else. Really the people have nothing to do with being male or female, but by knowing themselves and applying themselves in the best way possible. I think this is the best way to portray video game characters, would you agree?
    **(*spoiler*)**
**(The detective being the outlier, he uses kindness and mild manners as a way to sneak into his victims' houses and clean up the evidence and loose ends, so he isn't found out as the origami serial killer.)**

I hate how Hollywood turned the Term Fan Service into some sort of dirty word and black mark.
FAN SERVICE is BAD when it's done POORLY and/or LAZILY. The remark "it's just fan service" relies more on the "JUST" than the "Fan Service part. If your whole game or movie is JUST fan service it's likely meaning that it hasn't added anything new at all, has little to no stakes, doesn't take anything in a new direction with different insights or perspectives. It means it's defanged and useless. Trying to act like changing a beloved character to one that shares no positive traits with their previous selves is being nuanced and "subversive" is allot of things. 1) usually just as lazy as bad fan service. 2 a bad excuse for alienating a huge part of the audience. etc. etc. If you're making a game or film within an existing IP that in of itself is already Fan Service. You've either Bought or Inherited the IP expecting their fans, you're kinda going to have to provide to the free customers that you're expecting to pay you.
Not being "fan service" =/= Good and Being Fan service =/= Bad. But as hollywood's always done THEY have turned it on the customer. using something as being "not fan service" as marketing because people end up assuming that claim means that it's taken the ACTUAL criticism of the last product into account and made a movie that isn't a lazy cash in ANDTHEN it's still a lazy cash in just it ruins the lore and gives you even less to see it for because you hate the dumbass iteration of a character you used to like or something else.

I argued that in my school the dance class was all women except one dude and also during sports class or whatever you guys call it girls would sit in a circle and talk while guys would actually play. She didnt wanna hear it. Some people are just completely delusional about this topic. I do think men and women are equals but we are not the same in any shape or form... Sure sometimes there will be a girl with more masculine interests like that one girl in my sports class who would play just like the guys , and some guys with more feminine interests like that dude I mentioned in the dance class. Theres nothing wrong with being unconventional, if you're a girl and you dont like putting makeup then dont, no one actually cares. Sigourney Weaver and Jenette Goldstein in the Alien movies were perfectly done women for those roles. They were part of their crews and were woven deeply into the plots. They were both big bad ass kickers but they were still women. Their subtext as characters were feminine stuck in a bad spot where they had to conjure their inner masculine to stay alive, so they did for as long as they had the chance and it was believable. I remember being heartbroken when Vasquez died in Aliens. She was my favorite out of the Marines squad. Ripley was obviously the star of the films but she had a beautifully thick internal conflict between her feminine and masculine sides using both of them to excellent effect. Viciously brutal when lives were on the line and deeply compassionate whenever she could find time between the terror and fighting. Both aspects were incredibly strongly written and performed which is why she is such a memorable character and why Sigourney Weaver is so respected as an actress. Weaver made it look easy and natural in very unnatural circumstances. She kept her humanity and authenticity.
Jumping over to The Matrix. Carrie Anne Moss played a perfectly kickass Trinity yet she never lost her feminine against odds that would drive a person to madness.

I also don't see it as a compromise, but that's as much because a "compromise" that goes from a bikini to a bikini with frills isn't one, imo. Even assuming she's less sexy in a frilly bikini than a latex one, that's just one opinion. Real lingerie isn't usually skin-tight latex either, and I don't think those designs are compromising on their sexiness.
