Amazing Grace

The beloved hymn with Text is sung as a duet by St. John's, East Orangeville's Music Director Zacharia Dekker, keyboard and vocal, with chorister Greg Finlayson. Photos of our Anglican church in Caledon, Ontario Canada underlay the words. The Text for St. 1-4 is attributed to John Newton (1725-1807), and St. 5 to 'A Collection of Sacred Ballads', Richmond, 1790. The Music is the Melody: Columbian Harmony, Cincinnati,1829; adapted by Edwin Othello Excell (1851-1921); harmony John Campbell (1950- ). The tune is now known as 'New Britain'. These notes are taken from 'Common Praise', the current hymnal of the Anglican Church of Canada, in which this is hymn #352. Recording and post-production by Greg Finlayson.
