When I rented a townhouse about 28 years ago my landlord was surprised at how I grew sunflowers in a cinderblock and he said in the beginning it never would work. I explained to him the way why it would work. And he got it. I actually planted them in cinderblock because he killed my first batch with his lawn mower. I love cinderblocks and made a kitchen shelf out of them as well. Thanks for your video and I will do the same this year.

Being disabled. This is great. I will have a a wall or 2 built and have the last row with a barrier of some kind for drainage. That away I can grow them without bending over.

Informative video. I learned several things I didn't know. I haven't been having much luck with strawberries, but, you have encouraged me to try this. Just waiting for spring in zone 8a, near Dallas, Tx.. I have started some indoors, already, but, will start some more around February to transplant outside. Thanks so much!!!

Thank you. I use garden soil and compost mixture. Yes, I use wood pieces like old fence or cardboard to control weeds.
Started growing hanging strawberries last year, so no idea at all...will try cinder blocks this year...I'm more into flower garden but willing to try some veggies and strawberries...

What do you have under your blocks and between the rows? I am wondering if I should work up the ground first to get all the weeds out of the area and then set my blocks on top?

There is nothing under the block. It is just ground soil. I use cut cardboard, old wood fence in between blocks to block the weeds.
That is great but I was hoping to use the cinder blocks as a raised bed for other plants with strawberries growing on the outside. This way the blocks would have to be placed right against each other.
I mean you still could, just some strawberries will set at the top of the block

Hi Ben! Thanks for the questions. I use both granular and water soluble fertilizer. Yes we have a crow infestation. They are always asking for food. I wont have a tomato plant video soon but am planning a video on my tomato drying process.
So sorry for the delayed reply. I was not paying attention to the channel comments. Yes, we feed crows in our backyard. Of course , I fertilize everything...
What about if you have lots of wild rabbits, it'll make it easy for them to eat them...I don't really have anywhere to put them up higher on. Any recommenations?
Do you know for sure that rabbits will eat? Squirrels don't eat them in my backyard. They are too acidic. If rabbits eat them you may have to cover the individual plants with chicken wire. That way you can easily remove them and pick the fruits. Fold the chichen wire to cover the pot or the bricks. I do that for seedlings to protect from attracts of different animals.

Thanks. I took a look and cant figure out why you don't have the share button. Do you have this problem on other videos? I did a search and found some info but all was related to the browser and started asking a lot of questions about clearing the cookies, changing browsers and more.
Cant be great for the soil due to how concrete is made. Playing a risky game to eat that
No you're not. Building blocks do not leach chemicals, they are bound to the concrete matrix, this is scientifically proven and people have been safely doing it forever. Worst case scenario is the concrete raises the pH through leached alkalinity.
