This is why they made visual intelligence only available on the 16. That makes no sense but it's the only apple intelligence not available on the iPhone 15 pro ...
Honestly, I am quite happy for Apple to fail so badly rn and sales being down. Not because I hate them, but because now they will have to focus more and lock in and deliver a better experience if they want to keep up.
Actually, especially Mac computers have been on the rise lately, but not because of Apple Intelligence. The M4 Mac Mini is an incredible value, and so is every base model MacBook Air, now that the baseline has been upgraded to 16 gigs of RAM. They're in the forefront of ARM64 architecture and they're killing it - even though they kind of make their line of products confusing as hell. All those work and will continue to work WITHOUT Apple Intelligence. Nobody needs Genmogis and AI-generated pictures in their lives besides some quick laughs at how bad it is. Nobody asked for text that writes itself, even though the "proofread" function is pretty nice. Or summaries that make no sense, and it's easier to dive into the messages/mails to see for yourself. There are plenty of writing tools, ironically some of them are Mac ONLY, that can help writers. Nobody cares about any of this, and it can be all turned off with the flick of a button in the settings and never have to deal with them. To me, the actual magic of Apple Intelligence is that it can be turned off. By doing so, you lose very few of the things that make those products so amazing. An Apple Silicon Mac is still the same speedy miracle that lives for a gazillion hours on end toiling away. It's not that the Apple Intelligence gets shoehorned in every crevice of the OS like Microsoft does with Windows and that's fine. Hopefully it will be as you said. They salvage the experience and maybe the AI implosion everyone is expecting won't be as severe and we all get something good out of it. If not, we turn it of and move on to the next thing...
For starters, they need to get rid of all DEI policies that are destroying the whole corporate world and hire real innovators and people with amazing skills just like in the past, and leave the race or sex bullshit behind.
Also because they haven't released an optimization update since 2009. They're really acting like Mojang thinking that 20 minutes of work per week is enough to satisfy the demands of millions.
calling the marketing misleading would be generous. sometimes it's just lies: the new genmoji ad shows off a "12 sided die"... but try to generate that and in reality it'll give you a regular die that looks like crap.
Companies think of the AI as a cheap tool/marketing magic trick to sell people more devices. People think of the AI as a novelty, a cheap toy that maybe you use one day and nevermore, it's useless
My gut feeling is Apple's board saw the rest of the industry diving in heavily into AI and wondered why the self proclaim tech leader had nothing. So being pressured by their board they scramble to start talking about and doing early released of what AI they did have. So we got an very Alpha level Vision Pro and now some cheesy AI and promises we'll have something real soon. I think the AI boom caught Apple off guard and they are scrambling to catch up.
It’s so gimmicky. One of those things you play around with once and then just forget it, it’s such a mess. I can’t believe this is what they’ve been working on for so long and even that was delayed for months. What a waste.
‘Hand crafted and polished and perfect’ - Magic Mouse charging port on the bottom - Mac mini with power button on the base - shipping MacBooks in 2024 with 8GB of non-upgradable RAM - Apple Vision - shipping an M2 MacBook Air with half the SSD performance of its predecessor - the butterfly keyboard - etc etc Apples messes up all the time.
It feels like apple has lost their direction. I have never before had such a buggy inconsistent experience with their products. It no longer feels like a unified finished experience. It’s also so half asses to begin with taking that and adding a bunch of useless AI features on top makes this the worst (in my opinion) times apple has ever been in as a company it feels as if they don’t know where to go and are just milking the last drops of their past successes
Been saying this since the first announcement, the image generation is creepy and ugly and already looks dated in comparison to other image generators.. if they released this 2 years ago maybe it would’ve been mildly impressive. The lack of polish is very un-Apple like
Most of it is a gimmick, but some of the background stuff (not talked about) are awesome. Yesterday I was texting my brother and he asked me to help him with something. I asked ‘when?’ He said 5:00 PM. Then Siri was like, do you want to set a reminder to ‘help [name] at 5PM?’ Since it was gonna be over FaceTime, and both of us are horrible at remembering things, that is basically the only time that Apple Intelligence came in clutch
I thought Image Playground was useless, until I handed the phone to my sister who has a baby boy. She immediately added him as the 'person' and was absolutely gushing at the generated images of him as a football player... It's for kids and their parents to laugh at for a few minutes. Not for adult YT tech reviewers to use for any real function.
Apple need to focus on delivering value for customers with bug-free software and reasonable pricing for upgrades. AI is something I neither need or want.
Playground is a joke. I ran a picture I took of a 500 year old church in Italy with Mt Vesuvius in the background and it looked like something drawn by an 8 year old.
The fumble of iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence finally opened the flood gates with everything wrong with iOS and made me see my iPhone 15 Pro Max and switch to Android. Apple has long their way and they resemble more late 2000s Microsoft more and more each day.
Marrying ChatGPT to Siri is a match made in hell. Apple goes out of the way to tell you how it makes your interactions with ChatGPT private from Open AI - while at the same time keeping everything you do with ChatGPT through Siri on its own servers for its own use. It's in the fine print.
Ironic you say Clean My Mac is a holiday guest that cleans up after itself. I made the mistake of installing it after another channel had a video sponsored by it, and after quickly deciding it was not the sort of thing I wanted anywhere near my Mac it was painful to get it off the machine again.
Yes, it is not good....right now. I just wish they would not release any OS updates until it is all basically user ready with all promised features ready to go. Stop piecing it out over a span of months. Just release it when it is all pretty well baked. Then drop the monthly patches etc. I can wait 18 months or whatever between OS updates. They don't NEED to annually release a half baked OS every Sept, every year...Just revert back to how they operated under Jobs' tenure. When it was all ready, they released it. Whenever that was.
Apple AI has been largely disappointing. Your right about the Image generation stuff...yikes...and all it does with the text is basically shorting it. It feels like the bare minimum streched out to make it artificially feel like its this major deal and its not!
I've played with this for the last day.. WHAT A MAJOR WASTE OF NEURONS AND OXYGEN. If these is what we are supposed to buy an iphone by... they are dead.
To be fair the product life cycle of the typical iPhone 16 will be like 7 years, getting incremental Apple Intelligence updates that whole time. So advertising it like they are seems mostly ok to me.
I definitely agree with the lack of a “polished” feeling, especially in image playground. those pics are wack lol. But what i think IS extremely impressive, and no small feat of engineering, is getting any kind of halfway reasonable result (ie, not literal nonsense pixels), in a _reasonable_ amount of time running *on device* . Processor speed limitations, battery power limitations, thermal limitations should be huge considerations for the (relative) success of these features to generate anything at all. My friends and I joke that when we ask chatgpt to make a picture for us, we can see the lights dimming as the GPUs spin up to churn out that picture lol. But again, as far as usefulness to the consumer? we are a long way off from the image tools being even remotely usable. those teeth 😬
The "Genmoji" thing is genuinely one of the saddest pieces of software I think i've ever seen Apple produce. Memoji was fun back in 2017 as it displayed what the FaceID sensors could do but this... What does it do and show can do?!
The scariest about AI browsing through your emails, chats etc. to find an old email/chat is that your phone uploads it to their computers to process it and reply back making them have your whole digital life in their hands :(
bro what are you talking about . alot of the basic tasks can be done on your hardware why would siri need to upload anything to search through data lol use your brain you can literally do the same thing by just typing it in the search bar its a basic task
New emoji! Psychedelic kittens! Make your own psychedelic emoji! With kittens. And have an ai assistant named after a Witcher character for the Netscape generation. Apple seems desperate to sell to fourteen year olds. They’re risking losing the older demographic.
Tbh, If I had one of the newest iphones I would like an option to delete the AI-related stuff altogether to save space. I have no idea if it’s possible right now or not tho
I've been using iPhone for more than 3 years due to iOS always being polished to the top. Now when I'm on 18.1.1 and I'm using dark mode with light icons, even folder opening and closing on home screen is bugging out SINCE 18.0. It's just a shame to look that the magic which brought me to this ecosystem is completely disappearing on my eyes.
The one thing I was excited for was Genmoji, thinking I was able to make a custom emoji for my car, or funny pics, turns out I can't make emojis of my car because it just craps out, and the same for any Skibidi toilet images I try to make
I am literally on the phone with Apple Tech Support at least once a week. News features that are not intuitive and older features that are now broken with the latest updates. I hear from Apple Techs tell me I am the first to discover these problems and report them. I’ve been using Apple products since 1978 with the Apple ][. Steve Jobs stressed intuitiveness 9:44 . What I see going on at Apple is a move away from intuitive computing to surrendering self-control over the GUI environment to more complex methods of using the products. Thank you Apple for taking us to the Dark Side.
I always believed Apple purposely abstained from hype-trains like Crytpo/NFTs/metaverse/etc. because they knew it was trash. But as other commenters have alluded to, the aversion to these things probably comes at the anger of the board, who probably pushed them to jump in to AI this time. IDK everything about this feels un-Apple like.
First of all Apple needs new leadership. Siri should have been the focus of iOS 18. Make it useful. It's never been that good compared to google. The next thing to do is make the other OS's as bug free as possible. Let's slow down and just fix things that are broken. Now once that's done then add a few features that the users won't. The new OS for MacBooks has issues. It has become bloated and buggy. It's just trying to do too much. Another area of concern is pricing of hardware upgrades. Prices should be inline with other manufactures. SSD for 4 TBs is only $300 Apple needs to charge the same. Their products , while being good aren't that much better. Ram should also drop icy'e prices. At the very least allow users to upgrade their SSD's. Doing things few things would really help people who want to buy Apple products.
7:10 the AI remove looks close to seamless to me. Show the picture to someone else without them knowing what the original looked like and they won't notice, you only notice it here because you saw what was removed and you can still remember the outline. Other pictures (Like the one with the escalator) are much more tricky to fix and that's why those ones look bad, but for the most part people who view the final photo aren't going to notice.
I felt the exact same way as you did about image playground. I used it this morning for the first time and the images do not look like me at all. To be brutally honest, I am sick of hearing about AI all together. I suspect that in six months to a year, we would have forgotten all about AI. Can’t wait for that time to come!
I care for one, and only one thing: Does an Apple device allow me to deactivate Apple AI, like in Mac OS 15.2, and to opt out of using chatgpt! The moment that is no longer the case, the next phone is an Android phone, and the Mac becomes a Linux system! I actually run my old Macbook Air 2012 with Linux Mint! That doesn't mean I totally oppose AI. I don't like "well meaning" people and tech get in the way! The only reason why I still intend to by a Mini M4, is that Windows 11 is so obnoxiously patronising, that any other system can only be better! Plus, Linux runs pretty good on the old Mac. Though I don't know whether there is a dystro which can run on the M4 chip. Does someone know? I mean, not virtualised but as instrall on the "physical harddisk"?
I guess the EU's stubbornness with Apples refusal of opening the OSes to a moderate extent is in this case a blessing. We still have the "classic" iOS look and feel 😅 we'll see what April 2025 holds for us 😂
The problem is that Apple is giving us features we didn’t ask for. For years we’ve wanted dramatically improved battery life, but we get only incremental improvements.
I think personally Siri to partner with chatgpt proves that Siri is a very basic assistant even Alexa and chatgpt combined gives me more accurate requests than Siri but its a nice idea though, but consumers just want Siri to be smarter and apple can't even succeed in that ( you had one job Apple)
I used Apple Intelligence so little I switched the language on my devices back to British English; contrary to what everyone said at the time my Rabbit R1 is now vastly superior to Apple’s current offering.
Some of the "features" of Apple Intelligence can work on previous models like my 13 Pro Max without needing enormous amounts of RAM and dedicated co-processors, but they are software-locked and hardware paywalled. The standalone Leonardo app works fine, maybe slightly slower than current models, but at $1200 less. Siri is the same on the new phones as the previous models, and still dumb as a stump most of the time. ChatGPT and even its conversational back-and-forth mode (which is what Siri eventually aspires to be), also is usable and even fun on my "old" phone. Eventually we will hit a technological wall, unless we're there already. We've had triple cameras in that corner position for how many generations now? But instead of buying new hardware, I'll replace the battery in my 13 PM until and unless all the apps on the phone become totally useless or non-functional. Not to "stick it to Apple" but simply because the new features were both unwanted and in my and many others' opinions, pretty unnecessary.
How about this, Luke. In ear earphones that don't need futzing to fit properly. No tips. Just memory foam or a jell that fits. That would be intelligent. Oh, and controls that work on the outside of a stem. Or junk the stem and use the surface to adjust volume, etc. But that is a digression…
Apple fans like to complain about apple intelligence because apple software is usually perfection. At least we have better implementation and features than copilot ai
The inconsistency is ridiculous. The new mail box is one of the features i was looking out for. It just came out on the iphone… but the mac has to wait. Why!??!? This is so confusing
Apple is on its way downwards. Look at stuff like coloring the entire Home Screen one hue, or even earlier things such as walkie-talkie on Apple Watch. They’ve been shipping jank for years now.
Clean Up is actually good in Photos. As good as anything Google or Adobe is doing. Beyond that, Apple Intelligence is mostly pointless. I guess the Siri animation is pretty, lmao.
Yep, definitely with you regarding Image Playground. I opened it, fooled around with to for 10 minutes, and quickly realized it wasn't really something that was in any way useful to me, or likely to be in the future. Seemed like it was just a bit of a toy really. A curiosity. A side show that is unlikely to hold anyone's interest for very long. For sure not one of the more compelling uses of AI!
Ai is a gimmick that won't last beyond 10 years. The only bits of it that is going to remain is some of the photo manipulation, and photo editing. The rest is fluff.
AI is the tech version of the self driving car. In the end, it will be a giant expensive debacle. Got the 16GB Mac mini and AI will be turned off indefinitely. But hey Apple, thanks for the extra RAM.
I agree Apple Intelligence is a mess but please don't tell Apple to go back to 8GB minimum! The ONE good thing about AI is that all manufacturers are looking to give you 16GB minimum these days.
Siri is still so bad. actually worse than ever before. i think the apple products we love the people that made them are all gone and the new generation of apple people are into gimmicks.
Tbh those image cleanup looked good, atleast on youtube. Rest of the features will be turned off real quick as soon as I get them, so there is no point. I hope the fix the battery though.
The problem is OpenAI no doubt. Working with a very immature company to deliver polished and functional products? I bet Apple Intelligence will be cancelled as a feature outright next year.
I only have a Macbook that currently supports Apple intelligence. Super disappointing that we don’t receive Genmoji generation via MacOS yet. It seems to produce the best results so far out of their Image AI features. It also has me questioning as to why this is the case? When clearly it is functional on iOS.
I completely agree with almost everything in this video. I’ve been in the Apple ecosystem since the iPhone 6, and this past year or so has been the first time that I have EVER considered switching to android. It would be annoying and tedious to do, but with these new iOS features only being available months and months after the launch, alongside the addition of physical buttons for seemingly no reason (why are there so many ways to get to the camera ??????) it makes me question whether Apple really has what it takes to do things “the Apple way” anymore. Great video tho
I think the whole "ai craze" is silly. We don't need AI for everything.
naw, it's just too early
give it about 5 more years to be completely unrecognizably smart
Agreed 💯. I couldn't care less about anything AI.
The rush for artificial intelligence is paramount because they've determined that natural intelligence is harmful to one's health! 😛
AI toster with AI drip coffee maker
I totally agree its unnecessary and doesn’t have much benefits for its users. Just been used for marketing and buzzword
Such a wasted year honestly. Apple should have just skipped the 16 completely
I agree. The 16 is pretty much what a 15s would be. Cmon’ just a single new button?
Samsung is king
This is why they made visual intelligence only available on the 16. That makes no sense but it's the only apple intelligence not available on the iPhone 15 pro ...
But, at least, the Mac Mini and the... Vision Pro saved the year. The advantage of the iPhone 16 Pro Max is the A18 Pro, as always.
They've manoeuvred themselves into yearly updates ...
Its a mess... and I haven't seen a single "feature" I'd ever care to use in it
Honestly, I am quite happy for Apple to fail so badly rn and sales being down. Not because I hate them, but because now they will have to focus more and lock in and deliver a better experience if they want to keep up.
or they could have succeeded and you’d be disappointed?

Feels like Apple were in a hurry to remain current with AI. Seems like they took it out of the oven before it was cooked, hope it can be salvaged
hardly the first time they’ve done that! they’ll get there eventually. they usually do eventually.

No Luke, please disable the automatic translations of your videos by UA-cam. It is such a horrible experience and automatically turns itself on :/
TRUE!!!
You mean the titles? Because aside from the title, it’s still in English?
@ No, there are also audio tracks in some other languages like German and French. It's just a Text to speech voice reading the translated subtitles
@@jean-philipperottiers614 Oh you're right, I just checked. The audio tracks is now english/original only. Thank god
Most of it is a gimmick, but some of the background stuff (not talked about) are awesome.

Yeah intelligence does kinda suck. Best feature is letting ChatGPT handle Siri requests. And that’s not even working that well.

nice title
Apple need to focus on delivering value for customers with bug-free software and reasonable pricing for upgrades. AI is something I neither need or want.

It sounds/feels like Apple Intelligence is like the early days of Apple Maps.
This Ai craze reeks of gold rush madness.
More like fools gold…
Reminds me of vaporware in the old days where the promise doesn’t match the hype.

I agree. Im so disappointed and I regret upgrading from my 13 Max Pro to the 16 Pro. I should have waited :( I feel deceived.

And annoying Twitter techbros
well as lots of people say dont buy something for what it might do later but for what it does now.

I live in the EU and I don’t know if I should not be disappointed yet or if I should be double disappointed already
You should not be disappointed at all. AI feels like it's still in beta.
I think we will get it when it actually works lol.
I'm glad this slop isn't here.
Apple intelligence is a clusterf***
To be fair the product life cycle of the typical iPhone 16 will be like 7 years, getting incremental Apple Intelligence updates that whole time. So advertising it like they are seems mostly ok to me.
7:30 i think imperfections are also important for a photo, perfect photos are „boring“

For two years we’ve been talking about Apple AI and will continue to do so just to realise none of these new features are actually of any use.

Yes it is. Just disable it in settings.
Luke, you may not like that emoji of you but I think it looks great. It is a wonderful cartoon image of you...I love it!!
“Think different” think how can we fool the public to increase my own stock value
I've been using iPhone for more than 3 years due to iOS always being polished to the top.

Can’t wait for that time to come!
making apple memes with luke in them is enough of a use case for genmoji to stay on my phone
We still have the "classic" iOS look and feel 😅 we'll see what April 2025 holds for us 😂
I respect Luke for actually calling out the BS and terrible features. He's not endlessly glazing Apple like Jon Prosser would.
You misunderstand. Apple intelligence wasn't a product, it was a test. How much intelligence does their base have?
How about this, Luke. In ear earphones that don't need futzing to fit properly. No tips. Just memory foam or a jell that fits. That would be intelligent. Oh, and controls that work on the outside of a stem. Or junk the stem and use the surface to adjust volume, etc. But that is a digression…
I actually use it all the time specifically in mail, rewriting emails, email summary etc…
Apple fans like to complain about apple intelligence because apple software is usually perfection. At least we have better implementation and features than copilot ai
apple treats siri like intel treats their i3 i5 i7 chips.
The inconsistency is ridiculous. The new mail box is one of the features i was looking out for. It just came out on the iphone… but the mac has to wait. Why!??!? This is so confusing
Apple: ouch
The thing I’d use genmoji for most would be making emojis of people, but they always look so deranged and not like the actual people
AI, VR, AR, VA, EV, 3D, BigData…. What’s the next one ?
AR is great
Apple is on its way downwards. Look at stuff like coloring the entire Home Screen one hue, or even earlier things such as walkie-talkie on Apple Watch.
They’ve been shipping jank for years now.
Yup super disappointed with playground.
Clean Up is actually good in Photos. As good as anything Google or Adobe is doing. Beyond that, Apple Intelligence is mostly pointless. I guess the Siri animation is pretty, lmao.
I didn’t even expected the bar to be this low lmao.
fun fact, you just talked to siri while saying siri
The big problem with Apple AI is that it reads everything in and on your phone.
So sick of ai being shoved down our throats. Some people have NO use or care at all for it. I want better hardware and smooth software not ai.
All tech reviewers become apple haters
It's basically a slightly improved Siri ... not exactly earth shattering
I totally agree lets hope they sort it out
Ai is a gimmick that won't last beyond 10 years. The only bits of it that is going to remain is some of the photo manipulation, and photo editing. The rest is fluff.
Not forgetting to mention they're rolling it out even slower if you don't live in the states
AI is the tech version of the self driving car. In the end, it will be a giant expensive debacle. Got the 16GB Mac mini and AI will be turned off indefinitely. But hey Apple, thanks for the extra RAM.
do continue w the title i'm disappointed in how ios 18 control center looks and how buggy it is along with the app library
I agree Apple Intelligence is a mess but please don't tell Apple to go back to 8GB minimum! The ONE good thing about AI is that all manufacturers are looking to give you 16GB minimum these days.
should've given the 16 a 48mp ultrawide camera. That also their problem for giving it a mediocre camera design that doesn't look like apple
Ever realized that when you see the Apple Intelligence logo it says “Beta”. Just give them some time man
Siri is still so bad. actually worse than ever before. i think the apple products we love the people that made them are all gone and the new generation of apple people are into gimmicks.
I completely agree . This is the worst Apple I phone I have ever purchased.
