    I have the DeWalt DW745 - similar, but with a 250mm blade. Agree with most of your comments. I also regularly use a Charnwood W850 (250mm, cast iron table and sliding table). This is quieter (induction motor) but I prefer my DeWalt- quality of cut is at least as good, and much easier to adjust and use. I seem to be forever having to adjust the W850, and knife changing is a pain. It, too, suffers from dust clogging, plus poor collection. For a 250mm saw that you can carry about and will tackle almost anything, I am very happy with the DeWalt.

      Hi Mike. Just got a great deal on my DW when I bought it in 2019. Got it from FXX Black Friday sale and paid around 380. The 250mm is nearly £800 now ! Regards JP

      Some prices went crazy during / after C19. I tried to buy a Rage 5 in France at the end of 2020 and Amazon wanted €700! I’ve just added to my Festool family. Stay tuned 😃

    One nice thing the Evolution is that it is capable of cutting steel. I have not cut sheet steel but nails through timber when recycling pallets. So far no problems with the blade yet. I have done a bit with it but not a lot of heavy use of cutting through those hidden nails. Also, as I understand, the blade runs a los slower on the Evolution, for cutting steel and acrylic as is specified. I have not noticed too much in cutting slower with timber with a slower saw blade speed.

    • @Smallbarnworkshop
      @Smallbarnworkshop  Рік тому +1

      Great point! The running is noise is lower because of the lower speed. I have also found those pesky nail and screw also with the blade! Regards JP

      Maybe decide what thickness timber you will mostly cut first to decide whether you need a 3” cut. Then the size of space you have and next how portable you need it to be..Regards JP

    If I'd had the money I would have gone for the dewalt, however, I think the evolution is a decent saw. You can also get a grooving blade specifically for it from Saxton blades, which proved to be very handy for putting a drip groove on some window sills I made for home.

      Hi Rob. Does this "grooving blade" have a much wider kerf than normal or is it merely a blade with flat ground teeth? I've asked The Google but it doesn't know. If you have a link, that would be helpful! Are you in the UK?

    I have the Dewalt. I considered the Evolution as I have an Evolution Mitre saw but decided on the Dewalt based on build quality and reputation.
    I’ve been very happy with the Dewalt, it’s very well made and cuts beautifully. I’m currently only using the bottom dust extractor and the riving knife without crown guard and I do find it spits sawdust out of the top. I’ll try the crown guard and see what improvement that makes. My only criticism of the Dewalt is that it’s very loud, especially in my small workshop. I feel I have to wear ear defenders when using it, which is no5 something I find necessary for any other tools

    • @Smallbarnworkshop
      @Smallbarnworkshop  Рік тому

      Hi. Both good saws. The dewalt does edge it but it is more expensive. If you think the DW is load you should hear me Triton planner 😱 Regards JP

      @geoffreycoan Рік тому

      @@Smallbarnworkshop I’ve got the Triton TPT125 planer thicknesser and used it this weekend for the first time. I agree it’s loud but I didn’t think it as bad as the Dewalt. Maybe because I have my table saw temporarily on my MFT top so it’s acting like a drum.
      Trying online to find the decibels I found the Dewalt table saw reported as 100 and 108dB and the Triton planer as 91 and 104dB. Basically both loud but the Dewalt likely to be more so. I’m going to try using it on a rubber base see if that helps

      Hi. It depends which saw. The Evolution takes a 250mm blade with a 25mm bore. the DeWalt a 210mm blade with a 30mm bore. Saxton sell a pair of blades specifically aimed at the Evolution, that’s what I bought. Regards JP

    Great video, very useful indeed. I've been weighing up these two tables for a while, I like the rack n pinion fence control and build quality of the Dewalt, but the Evolution has scope for larger sheets and more affordable. If you had to choose one over the other, which would you go for?

      @Smallbarnworkshop take a look at the Bosch PBD 40 bench drill. I've just got one to replace a traditional small pillar drill. It's fantastic, very accurate and a real bargain!

      @sitgesvillaapartmentneilsc7924 Рік тому

      I agree, I have just bought one as well and its a superb and a very high quality drill, there is a little run out I have found testing with a dial gauge but nothing compared to my old 3 geared pillar drill, you can also change the top bearing for a lubricated bronze one if you find it an issue after the guarantee expires... Took about 20 holes to get used to the wheel but now I much prefer it to the old 3 prong handle, its also much easier to just move the entire mechanism up and down the pillar to get your drill height and wheel movement tuned perfectly . Pretty much everything about it is perfect, the only thing I have done is mount it on to 3 pieces of 3 x 2 and have a little tray underneath to collect all the crap and the bits that inevitably fall through. I'm 6'4" so find it a little low and doing that has sorted it on my workbench. The light is great the electronic depth gauge is brilliant and very accurate. Now looking for a decent vice for it to match its quality @@tomdysonwoodworking

    both interest me. The Evolution for his price (a little more than 300€ in Leroy Merlin stores), his 10" blade and also its ability to cut metal (not smt I do often but...) and the Dewalt for its trusty fence and overall quality, and also its smaller footprint.
    I've just discover a new Erbauer table saw, 10" blade, 1800w and a fence on pinion like the DW... for 300€ - that's not a brand I trust but can't find any review for the moment... I've just bought an Evolution Rage 5 - S and I'm still getting to know it. However, my biggest disappointment is that the mitre slots are non-standard size. It makes it almost impossible to get a mitre gauge to replace the cheap and wobbly offering from Evolution. I've watched quite a few reviews of this saw on UA-cam and none of them mention the non-standard mitre slots.
