  • #Falken #AT3WA #AllTerrain 80% Asphalt - 20% Offroad
Finally managed to finish the Falken AT3WA review after many months of testing and several versus against other ATs and an MT. The AT3WA is a premium tire with a very strange behavior even on asphalt, if you don’t deflate a bit below the OEM tire pressure recommendations, then it becomes dangerous on wet (like a 7 years old all-season dangerous), if you go above OEM pressures then you are playing the Russian roulette on wet.
In the AT versus sessions that will be uploaded in the next weeks, it was the most difficult to drive in off-road terrain, always needing more care and workarounds, also the lateral shoulder grip is weak.
We added the AT3WA in our AT chart with estimated good grades for winter due to the *3mountain peaks, this allowed it to be on the sixth place. This might change this winter, but until snow falls we cannot be sure.
It’s a good tire for the casual city offroadist that wants fuel economy from an AT tire and a quiet ride. The only place where it shined a bit was the wet grass and where it slightly beat the AT34S.
Would we recommend it? Depends what you need, but for now let’s wait for the winter testing, though the wet performance at OEM bar pressure, does raises questions on breaking/risk.
Please like and Share - It will help with our efforts.

Please note that they have poor grades on wet asphalt and winter, also medium in offroad. Try Cooper or Maxxis. Grass its the only strong point for Falken.

Just found this channel as I was interested in these tires for a Honda CR-V. Looks good for the balance I want. I think these are biased more towards snow and wet than the mud side of things as you have pointed out. Lots of reviews I watched of the at3w said the same lack of grip in the mud but very good in snow suggest it’s the same as what you’ve found here. Looking forward to watching more of your videos!

Just bought 4 265/40R17's for my 2013 VW Touareg. I had the mud terrains from BF Goodrich but these were extremely loud and sketchy on road. These hopefully will suit my needs; i'm a Belgian gardener and spend about 90% of my time on road but sometimes need to cross some grass, muddy track or gravel.

Update; they’ve been fitted and they’re awesome on-road. Looks are decent also, yesterday needed to pull a log up a wet grass incline and did struggle for traction. Guess that’s your 80/20 compromise right there. On road I would recommend 8/10

Thank you for this review, it actually convinced me not to go for these tires, which I was seriously considering.
Do you have any input on the Goodyear Adventure with Kevlar? I saw you only have the Goodyear AT/SA in your chart which is quite an old tire.

You are welcome, feel free to share and subscribe. We have done older tests, they are in our AT chart, though at that time we were not doing videos. What is your car and weight and what time of terrain you drive in?

@@DaciaDusterTrails I'm actually driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, not a Duster (don't hate me 🙂), but I still found your tire reviews very helpful.
As most of the people I drive 95% of the time on roads but when I go off-road it is typically quite extreme rock climbing and sometimes mud (there is no snow where I live), so I'm looking for an A/T tire that is good and quite on road but can handle a tough terrain off-road and hopefully mud too.
Now I'm using the Goodyear Wrangler Adventure which are the same that came with the car from Jeep. They are ok on road, reasonably quite, have good fuel consumption, and I never had a puncture with them even when aired down to 22-24 psi. They are mediocre on rocks and terrible in mud but their worst problem is that they wear down very quickly, this is the second set that I have to replace after about 30,000 KM.
I was hoping to see how they stack up against the other brands in your chart so I can know if it's going to be better if I switch.

Thank you for this nice video. I'm still wondering to buy this Falken for my Ford Transit 4x4 convert in camper-van. I will mostly be on the road, but, I would like to be able to do some off-road parts, for example if I find a beautiful spot to spend a night, even if the access is more difficult. It seems this tire suitable for my use.
Maybe you could complete the test with snow driving during this winter.
I miss these beautiful sceneries of Romania. I spent 7 years there.

Keep in mind there are 2 wildpeak versions. The one presented in this video is the AT3WA which is a good all around/all season tyre performs ok in the wet but maybe not so well in the mud, I have them on a Touareg and never had issues with them in mud whatsoever. Then there's the wildpeak AT3W ( without an A at the end) which performs well in the mud but not so well on snow or wet. Again, depends what ate you intend to use it for. Hope this helps, all the best

I can tell you my experience - they are pretty poor on road in cold and wet conditions (nothing extreme), they feel unstable and you can feel that they lose grip when steering, even when driving cautiously. Also the breaking on snow/ice is bad. I'll switch to dedicated winter tyres since I'm mostly driving on road, the maneuvrability is too bad and insecure for me.
To be fair, they seem to have good traction in snow, off-road.

How this tyre perform vs. the Discoverer ATT? Do you have any comparison? Thanks!

    • @DaciaDusterTrails
      @DaciaDusterTrails  3 роки тому +1

Yes but not on video and its a strange comparison to make as both tires are somehow behaving in differently in tandem but are so similar. ATT is pure summer while AT3WA is more all season, also ATT is better on all wet risk scenarios at OEM pressure while AT3WA is not and a bit risky. If you want fuel consumption and not do much offroad go for the AT3WA, if you do offroad and have winter tires go for ATT. Anyway AT3WA is expected not to perform stellar in winter as it is poor on mud.

Hiii! Question for the master! Due to no posibility buy Cooper At3 4s in size 255/60 r18, or any 18” smaller than 265/60 I need to choose from Yokohama Geolander g015 245/60 18” and Falken AT3Wa 255/60 18”. I will not drive in deep mud, generally rocks, sands and grass (very wet). 40% local routes 30% motorway 30% paths. I live in Poland, so All weather needed for all Year.
What you think, what will be better? I need AT tyres, because of overlanding obsession 😎

I have these tires on a Land Cruiser Prado 150. They are awesome on road. At the first sign of slippery situation - be it mud, wet grass, ice, slush - you will start to pray for traction. They are similar to the garbage Duellers that came stock with the car, same awful slippery situation performance. Would not recommend.
