    Please excuse some slight dodginess with the white balance and exposure - I was a bit rusty at filming battle reports! You'll find the EOG rules summary and reference (yes the updated version!) here: www.orderofgamers.com/games/armada/

    Hi all and thanks for the warm welcome! It was great to be back on the EoG, there are few things I enjoy more than giving Peter a thorough thrashing in a totally meaningless game, and I think we can safely call THAT battle a thrashing :-).
    It looks like we didn't make too many horrible mistakes either, although I seem to recall the error rate increased markedly as the weekend wore on and we moved on to more complex games combined with beer. All kudos to Peter though for his mammoth efforts painting and, in particular, making the rules summary - that's not a simple or fun task!
    I've recently been playing Sword & Sorcery (an Ares game I backed on Kickstarter a few years ago) with my son, and it's surely the most complex dungeon hack ever invented. Despite summarising the key points myself, I'm really missing an EoG summary and reference card!

      That was very kind of Peter to allow you to check your crew skill using a d10 instead of the d6. He's a tremendously accommodating guy, that UH! :)

      Yeah, keeping track of everything in Sword & Sorcery can be quite a pain! But I do love the game, the interesting enemies and their AI, plus the good scenarios make up for all the fiddlyness for me.

      It's all very, you coming over and enjoying yourself silly, clogging up your grey matter with 55 rule summaries and thrashing Peter. Don't you realise it's infectious (oo, not a good term to use right now?) and it ends up making me spend my money on more games! Seriously, I've watched this 3 times now and really loved sharing the experience with you both. If there are two more genuine friends on UA-cam, I haven't seen them. Yes, I've gone and bought the game now.

    Hurra! It’s Will! He seems like such a nice guy that I’m always cheering for him in the battle reports!
    (I just re-watched the Space Hulk and a WotR. It’s strangely comforting)

      Of course you realise it takes hours and hours of careful editing to make him seem like that! 🤣

    Great report, this was fun to watch. One thing I noticed and it seemed like you noticed is that the ramming here didn't feel quite right 35:30. When colliding if there is a size difference between the ships for each size level of size difference the larger ship rolls an additional D10. In this case the Bloodrunner is a medium ship and the Gunbrig is a small ship so the Bloodrunner should have rolled an additional D10.

    Yes! Always love seeing battle reports with Will. Of course thanks to Peter for all the work you do ahead of time to make these possible. Cheers guys!

    Fantastic report. I've not played Armada but I have Black Seas which is the historical rules Armada is based on, so it's really interesting to see the differences. Looking forward to the next one!

    Gorgeous painting on the ships and another fantastic battle report. Nice to see the Dreadfleet mat out too. Thank you for taking the time to record and share. Lovely to see you and Will back together! I'm mid way through painting my Orc fleet for Armada - I started with the XL ship for some reason, and have some Dwarfs to start on after (should have vids up soon). Can't wait to get them to the table. Cheers!

    this is a great game indeed, we luv it. Those XL ships are great aswel :D but if you gonne play a 250 point game it will take quite some time to play.

    It's nice to see something approaching Man O' War finally getting some traction. Just started assembling/painting my Armada stuff, great to see it in action.
    Hopefully we get lots of nasty sea monsters and maybe flying units down the road if the game takes off. Keep up the good work! 👍

      Some sea monsters would be excellent. Release the kraken!

      There are some for Black Seas, which Armada is based on:
      store.warlordgames.com/products/terrors-of-the-deep
      Could these be used in Armada? Not sure how compatible the rules are.

    Again, you've emptied my wallet! I've now watched this bat-rep 3 times as I enjoyed it so much and I've ordered the game and some extra ships today, but it only occurs to me that there won't be an Australian mate including in the delivery! I live in the UK but my best friends live in Aus. I got Dreadfleet some years back (long after it was deleted) after watching your assessment of it's 'crapness' and with a little tweaking and removal of the more egregious cards it plays much quicker and is good fun. I've been on the fence about Armada after your unboxing, but this was enough to crystallise things and my limited funds (now very limited) have been allocated. Stop making such fun bat reps. We might need a new roof soon and I can't keep buying games!

    Excellent, thanks for another great battle report. As for the game, I like the movement/activation rules quite a bit, but I feel the damage system is a bit lackluster. Just a relatively large number of hit points counting down? Do the advanced rules add more flavor there?

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  3 роки тому

      Well there's the 'nerve' level where the ship becomes crippled, so there's a change in status there. I wouldn't be keen personally on making it more complex with granular damage effects.

    • @RalfSchemmann
      @RalfSchemmann 3 роки тому

      @@EsotericOrderGamers Added complexity is a downside of course, but with a naval game, shouldn't there be things like broken masts, destroyed cannon, onboard fires, etc? Abstracting all that into a "crippled" status is possible of course, but perhaps a bit too much abstraction for me. Oh, well, they surely can't please everyone all the time. :)

    • @paulkingtiger
      @paulkingtiger 3 роки тому +1

      @@RalfSchemmann I think those are handled by critical hits. My biggest complaint with the rules is that there is always a flat chance of scoring a crit, so a difficult shot at long range which needs a 10 to hit means every hit is a crit.

  • @RiccardoRingo

    Hallo. I ask one question to anyone can answer me: the rules tells you must have at least one ship for every 50 points. Do you consider slooping squadrons as ships? May I have one XL main battle ship and 2 Slooping squadrons in 150 points fleet, or not?
