You know what'd be funny? If there was a group of identical quads or triplets who made videos like this and made people think they were one person edited to look like four - and then they surprise you and show that they're actually four different people at the end by hugging or shaking hands or something to prove that they're all real people!
I love how the tenor, lead, and bari all have fairly similar movements, body language, etc, but the bass just does his own thing. Just like the actual parts!
Thanks! I actually had a hard time recording this one with all the silly moves. I didn't have any lighting at the time and relied on natural sunlight beaming through my window. Thing is, my neighbor watched the whole choreography from her window as I made a fool of myself. :)
My dad and his brother used to sing this at family get-togethers in the 60s. I haven't heard this in 20 years and it was always a favorite. Thanks, and nice job!
Thank you for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the show. :) making this video took a bit of work indeed, around 30 hours for the whole project. The rough equation for the cappella videos on my channel is 1 minute for you = 10 hours of work for me. If you enjoy what you hear, you can get my album & support my music (link in the video description). :)
Thanks! I didn't arrange this, it's a barbershop classic. Learning the song, composing the choreography & learning it, recording, editing audio & video and publishing it took around 30 hours of work.
@ Same, like I can't believe people wouldn't just know these characters from memory, but imo the show stopped being truly 'great' after around 1999 so I guess we're getting to the time where children haven't grown up with these characters.

I almost always start with the lead track, since barbershop is usually lead-driven. For this song however, the bass track carries the song, so I started with this one.
Well thank you for that nice comment! I'm delighted you enjoy my work and barbershop in general. This video was one of my most ambitious solo projects at the time, so it's great to see people are enjoying it! Do share the video with your friends and help me spread the word! ;)

Alex T Possibly a low baritone, but range and vocal fach have little to do with each other. You could also be a tenor with low range and not enough training.
I am a sucker for barbershop quartets. Mainly for how the voices just blend so perfectly and as a music lover and vocalist myself, that feels satisfying to hear. I also love barbershop quartets because they introduced me to the good songs from way back then. Keep up the good work!

I really like your videos and the barbershop music. But when talking about acapella, I don't know have you ever heard about "klapa". It's also has: lead singer, tenor, baritone and bass but it doesn't have to be limited to 4 members, it usually has more than one bass, baritone and tenor. Also, it's known only in Dalmatia (Croatia), there are similar kinds of singing but this is unique. Recently it has been added in UNESCO's non-material legacy :)
This is AMAZING! My dad LOVES barbershop and was in awe of this. He said you have "the purest barbershop voice he has ever heard". Thanks for sharing this. It brought a smile to both of our faces.

@MarsFiction Bass is fun to sing, but I think I prefer the baritone part, which isn't easy to pick out by ear, but definitely gives the harmony its fullness.
@RinzeYtsma It depends on the song, but it's typically lead then bass, then baritone then tenor. For Coney Island Baby, I started with the bass, since it carries the song. ;-)
It depends on the song. Here, I started by the bass part. Then lead, then baritone and finally tenor. I usually start with lead when I can, since it carries the melody.
I really enjoyed listening to you. We had a Barbershop Quartet in high school, and they were better in high school (our high school had a couple of amazing directors who took us to competitions where we regularly received the highest marks) than most I've heard on . They were fantastic and you are amazing as well 👏 Your range is great and you blend so well with yourself😉
I still don't understand your question: I just sing the parts, one after the other. Or perhaps it's a rhetorical question, as in "it seems difficult"? If so, yeah it wasn't easy, but the song is exactly in y vocal range: F2 to Bb4. :)
I was using a compact digital camera Panasonic DMC-TZ18. It has a 24mm lens (wide angle). The effect wasn't intentional, it was more "home-made" at the time. :)
@epicspooon I practice: I sing the lead part and then listen to it over and over until I get the dynamics and the timing in place. Also, when I sing the other tracks, I'm looking at Audacity playing my lead track in the timeline, so I have visual cues as to when to come in. My other "trick" is to try to sing mostly homophonic arrangements, which makes everything easier from that perspective.

@KendraDyck Thank you for the kind words. You should really give it a shot yourself, you'll be surprised with the result. I learned how to make these videos by... making them. You're wrong on many aspects:
1) One of the points of barbershop is precisely to sing in tune
2) I didn't use programs to tweak my voice, I practiced.
😍😍😍😍 I love your voices. You're cute like my nephew
