- More than seven and a half million people in England are now waiting for routine hospital treatment - the highest figure since records began - and three million higher than before the pandemic.

NHS bosses pointed to the junior doctors strike - with more than a hundred thousand appointments to be cancelled. But that's just added to an already soaring waiting list.

I thought we were funding the NHS with the EU money
This government have put far more than the so called £350m on the bus IN FACT THIS GOVERNMENT HAVE PUT MORE FUNDING INTO THE NHS THAN ANY OTHER GOVERNMENT IN UK HISTORY- try again remoaner but you need to check your facts first .
NHS finding since 2016 has risen by more than £350m per week. The issue is the lockdown time bomb and a rapidly growing and ageing population.

If you do not maintain your car, for 10 years, you cannot then ask why it no longer runs; you cannot also then point the finger at the mechanic trying to keep it going, who is asking for a fair wage, and not getting it, and say, "you must be contributing to the car being broken". The Tories have dismantled the UK. It is so very sad to see.
Tories have been in power for 80 of the last 123 years- state of the country shows.
If you keep letting people into the country who haven’t contributed to the country you are going to see a badly run country sink under the weight of numbers, stop giving foreigners nhs care and housing and benefits, stop the Labour politicians or we will become a third world country, simple
You can fix and maintain your car yourself if you do the job correctly! You don’t need a mechanic! So how about training our own people to do the job and ones that love working for the NHS! One’s that will refuse to help illegal none paying criminals from accessing the NHS and tourists that access it for free! Doctors that will tell patients they are fat and need to lose weight or are destroying their bodies without taking responsibility for the cost!
The NHS was not originally suppose to deal with the wilful self harm that they gladly waste their time supporting or become the main dealers for the pharmaceutical companies!
Money won’t solve this…
@@blazzz13I'm old enough to remember when Labour were in power. We'd be worse if we'd had Labour for 80 of the last 123 years.

@@fredmercury1314 Not the start of Labour. It was 70s onwards when it changed because they were trying to win power. Now Labour are essentially Tories. But to keep the Tories out for the meantime we need to vote Labour in. - even though They're tories and offer nothing other than what we have now and more rampant privatisation. For actual change people need to vote for the greens.
We're still losing nurses and doctors. This is going to get much worse and may never get better.
What the government doesn't understand is let's say the unions accept whatever they are offering. Okay. Nurses and doctors are underpaid and continue to leave and resign. How have they solved anything? They haven't! Any solution that doesn't make the situation better is not a solution.
Their plan is to allow poor people to die in order to privatize the system for the wealthy. The facts are: every pound invested in health care and education PAYS FOR ITSELF in the savings it provides. Educated and healthy people commit fewer crimes, make more money and are better more contributing members of society. There's no reason not to invest. Sure, you can look to cut costs via administration costs, but you'd need someone is government who is at least vaguely knowable about the health care system to identify these redundancies. Salaries have gone DOWN compared to inflation. That's not acceptable particularly when the workload has only increased.
I stronlgly recommend that via BBC Sounds (if they were not listening last night) people listen to what was being said to Stephen Nolan last night on BBC Radio Five Live. What a desperate situation we are in. And yet it is all DELIBERATE on the part of the Tories (and New Labour before them).

My wife had been in pain for over a year, her doctor thought she had either a pulled muscle or Sciatica, but she actually had a crushed 4/5th vertebrae, with Spinal fluid leaking into her back. She paid to see a chiropractor whilst waiting to get
physiotherapy, we paid over £500 for chiropractor visits and then got 2 appointments for physiotherapy without getting either a CT or MRI scan, which our Doctor stated she could not authorise & only a senior Physio could? it worked out that both the treatments exacerbated her leakage of spinal fluid into her back, to summarise, she lost her mobility after being sent away from the hospital & then attended 4 day's later, to be admitted and then underwent a spinal decompression & spinal Fusion, which meant inserting a metal cage & screws & pins to restore her spine & stop the compression of the nerves, which were causing her mobility. Government gives 7 Billion per year to BBC to grossly overpay their staff , but not to NHS Junior Doctors and Nurses . The rest goes to Royal Family who has castles , stately homes and palaces all over the UK - one palace, one castle should be enough for all of them . There are housing problems in this country , energy crisis and so on . Stop this nonsense!
Most of the NHS doctors have conflict interest because they work for private medical centre or partners of the firm. When I mentioned I cannot wait too long for surgery , the consultant suggested I go private then he said he can carried out surgery within 2 weeks in the private medical centre he works . It makes me to think doctors are delaying on purpose .

I've seen statistics of 83 billion being used because of lawsuits. That leaves 58 billion or so of the NHS budget. These strikes cost 1 billion so far. so 57 billion left in the budget after that. So yes, underfunded which have led to the lawsuits in the first place. Had staffing, funding kept up we wouldn't be in this mess. This is also because of the 2012 health and social care act too. Another issue is massive inefficiency, the irony behind requiring almost every junior doctor essentially having to participate in mostly pointless “quality improvement projects” which wastes many many doctors time and adds to their work and busy schedules.
The most successful quality improvement project would be eradicating the requirements of pointless Audits and QIP’s in order to apply for specialty training…
you say that but implementing standards is what made the NHS as successful as it was under New Labour, maybe just do your job and stop whining about how much work you have to do

Anyone in the UK who doesn't acknowledge that the Tories are the worst group of people to be running the country are simply in denial. Our government doesn't value workers. Single moms and benefit seekers are looked after in this country.
I agree . . What's happened to our country's standards during Tory austerity?
Does this list say how many of these people have bonus holes?
The waiting lists are long because there is a shortage of doctors. Numerus clausus in medical schools the cause. If I were the British Government, I would nationalise further education as well as university. I would also abolish numerus clausus in medical schools. Unfortunately, politicians do not understand that it is the solution as they are incompetent. Both tories and labour.
Yep, Keith the Kid Starver is just another Tory with his mate Weasel Streeting going to privatise the NHS even further and then make you fork out 3,000 for an ambulance when you need one.
Medical schools are all well and good if you want the most junior of doctors. But if you want consultant specialists to diagnose your cancer, operate on your hip or help you manage your diabetes then you need to train them after they graduate too. Thats what is lacking in the UK.
Both medical schools and specialisation courses must be free from restrictions. There is also a shortage of doctors in France, Germany and Italy as numerus clausus is used in these nations. Numerus clausus is also a form of discrimination. It is not a coincidence that rich students only can buy excellent grades in biology and chemistry. Exam boards sell grades as they are private commercial companies. I know how education works because I sat A Level exams. There is no meritocracy since education is monopolised by private entities.
Now you have to consider just how many haven't sought treatment or who hasn't received a full examination down to these limitations and thus are the silent bump waiting to be recorded in death statistics later down the line, The ones who have made it into the system represent a form of survivorship bias now because their condition was visible or apparent enough to presumably receive a pretty assured diagnostic so they are sent to confirm and then treat, However anyone who doesn't present apparent symptoms is going to be hard found receiving the appropriate standard of checks.
