We used a trap door on the lower platform where the Beast made the change. In addition to the smoke and strobe we used a lighting effect in the entire theatre as well as the scrim.The actor playing the beast did a great job of pulling off the scene. Keeping Belle moving and focused on where the beasts body should be also helped the audience believe. The body double did not work for us. we tried it in rehearsal And yes that is Gaston's real voice. Thanks so much for the comment. Hope that helps.
