    For anyone wondering: to get rid of blood, it’s important to rinse any fabric with cold water first. If you use hot water, the proteins in the blood will denature and it’s near impossible to get the blood out. It’s the same principle as boiling an egg. You cannot make a boiled egg liquid again.
    Love this video! It’s so clear and transparent 🥰

    Note: You can still use tampons or a menstrual cup if you're a virgin, just like if you aren't, since having sex doesn't actually change anything physically.

    • @Gittemary
      @Gittemary  4 роки тому +16

      Oh yeah I forgot to come back to that, you can use these things if you are a virgin but if you are scared to, that’s another thing ✌🏼🌿

    • @hopestafford3250

      Definitely but I will add to that with my experience. Before I had sex, I could never wear tampons, they hurt too much, insertion and just being in there. Afterwards, they were no bother so something changed. I cannot imagine trying my cup before I had sex. I will also say, that everyone's vagina is different and not everyone has pain while using tampons, virgin or not, and some do. All trial and error finding what works for your body.

    • @3linaful
      @3linaful 4 роки тому +1

      @@hopestafford3250 I completely agree with you. I tried inserting both tampons and a cup when I was a virgin, and it didn't feel good. I didn't even get the cup inside after 30 minutes of trying before giving up. But after my first time, there were no problems at all.

    I struggled with my menstrual cup for awhile. It's not ideal for someone with poor hand dexterity. But the game changer was putting a little lubricant around the rim of it whilst inserting. I was never one for using tampons either, but I'm now a convert.

    I had to give up using a cup four months ago, as I had a pelvic prolapse due to improper removal of the cup. I don't want to scare anyone away from them, but be sure to remove properly. Do not use your pelvic muscles to push it down. They are great products when used correctly. I'm still healing and in the meantime have switched to reusable pads. Not sure if there's major differences between the brands, but mine feels like wearing a diaper. I'll keep trying until I find good ones, though. Those period panties look like a good thing to try.

    I want to talk about cloth period pads for a moment and my experience. I DIY'd a few from flannel and terrycloth. Those ones are great! No issues with them, I toss them in the hamper and wash them normally and they come out clean, nothing else ever gets stained or anything so no reason to separate them. I used to hand wash them but thats a lot of work getting all that blood out. Totally works tho to just wash in the sink if youre out somewhere or something and didnt bring enough to last your trip.
    Now, the commerical pads I bought have absorbant bamboo layer and were made by a company that also makes cloth diapers. As first i thought they didnt work as the blood just kind of sat on top. I did some research and this is common of cloth pads and diapers. They become more absorbant after a few washes. DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER on cloth pads. I dont ever use it but ive seen that warning many times. it removes the absorbancy. Other than that, cloth pads are great. I think they even reduce my cramping probably because all those chemicals in disposables are gone.

    • @kyeoptawerk93ah
      @kyeoptawerk93ah 3 роки тому +1

      you also don't want to use fabric softener on towels! i learned that from a roommate years ago who learned it from her mom. it def makes a difference in absorbency

    Informative video, thanks so much. My only Q: if you rate the period underwear so highly, why wouldn't you completely switch to it? Would one still need a combo of these products? Just wondering...

    • @Gittemary
      @Gittemary  4 роки тому +5

      I think all the products are honestly, othetwise I wouldn’t recommend them here. I use the cup especially when I out and about, and the underwear at night, so having a couple of different options has given me more mobility doing the rough days, so I really like that I have options 🌿

    I switched to the menstrual cup plus (homemade) pads/ liners about 6 months ago. It took a few cycles to find the “rhythm” of how often to change both but I won’t go back! I love these reusable options and it feels AMAZING knowing I am not contributing to landfill waste😇

    So one of the things I just want to mention is that I know my cramps, flow, bloating, and all other terrible period related pains. I just started drinking Moon Balance from Your Super Food. It’s been about two months now and I’m drinking it like every other day. My last period, I kid you not, I didn’t even realize I had started my period until I went to the bathroom and saw blood on my panties. This was the same fore the rest of the week, I had maybe two small cramps but that was it.
    I found Moon Balance when I was looking for natural ways to not get cramps. I was using pamprin [not sure if that’s spelled right] which for a long time I thought was the magic pill to stop my cramps and feel almost normal. Moon balance was much better for me.
    Now my question is what natural remedies do you eat or drink to help with symptoms.

    For the pads, do you know what the absorbent linning is? It seems like a product that can be diy....Also, with the period panties, how long can you wear them before you can smell the blood? I'm always a bit paranoid about freshness during that time so I tend to probably be a lot more wasteful....

      I've worn mine all day. 8 - 12 hrs and not had any issues. Some days my flow is heavier than others so I will bring another one with me and change it out halfway through the day. I have a small bag that I will wrap it in so it's not just loose in my bag. Hope this helps!

      You absolutely can DIY period pads! All of the ones I have are DIY. Lots of materials you can use for the absorbant layer and outer layers, and you can add waterproofing etc. commercial ones differ as well. For my handmade ones I have used a few layers of old towel material (terrycloth) sandwiched bewteen layers of thrifted cotton flannel as the absorbant inner pad, and then the outer part is more recycled flannel with old bra hooks instead of snaps or buttons as a fastener. Really easy budget DIY, I have been using them for 2 years and no signs of wear!

    I used cup for more than a year before getting pregnant. After having a baby I am kind of scared to return to it ( so using cotton disposable pads for now). Maybe because there is no research showing how does cup influence vaginal health in a long term like 30-40 years of use. Do you know anything about it? It is just cup creates kind of vacuum in there and pushes on the v. walls. Will it be able to bring to the point of erosion on v. walls and might it influence on muscles of pelvis floor?
    Because scared to use cup and allergic to polyester and nylon in Thinx underwear, probably will have to go with reusable cloth pads. Unless, there are other reusable period products on a market?

    for anyone trying period undies, def make sure they fit snuggly or make sure you wear fitted pants/leggings! i just tried some, and one style was slightly too big so it would slid down while i was wearing a dress and i leaked kind of everywhere. it was a sticky mess haha but when i wore the style with leggings (so it would be held up and close to my body) no issues. it is weird at first because it feels like you are just free bleeding and i was worried the whole time that i was actually leaking the whole time, but period undies work quite well and are super nice for night time. really saved on the waste i would make usually stuffing my reg undies with pads/pantyliners

    Whenever I see period underwear I wonder what the absorbant layers are made of. How sustainable are they? Is it simple cotton or is there something else to the lining? And if so how eco friendly is it?

    Been using a cup for 8 years now. It’s my favorite thing ever from day 1!!
    But I wanted to mention that you say your periods are brutal on day two. I know you’re vegan and very connected to that lifestyle choice (more power to you, I could never personally), but because of the nutrient restrictions it can cause shorter or more intense periods/symptoms. Sometimes it’s about not enough fats/protein in your diet which you can find in other veg products, other times it’s a thyroid issue brought on by vitamin deficiencies. Or just certain vitamin/mineral deficiencies alone.
    Even being a meat eater, I had the same issue with day two. So I did mineral taste tests and have been supplementing and noticed a huge difference.
    If you’re curious about a couple cheap at home tests contact me! I’m a nutrition counselor. :)

    • @marleenijsselmuiden3876
      @marleenijsselmuiden3876 4 роки тому

      I'm sure you mean well with your comment, but I find it a bit simplistic. As with any diet, the trick is to balance out the ingredients and to make sure to get enough vitamins of everything. Besides, there are many more factors influencing your flow. When you browse online, you'll find both sources claiming it intensifies, as well as sources claiming it actually improves. I have been vegan for nearly two years now (and 18 years vegetarian prior to that), and no bodily complaints whatsoever. If anything, I increased my energy, improved my skin and other vague bodily symptoms disappeared too.

    As a tip for anyone that wants to use reusable pads but can't afford (or don't want to spend the money) to buy them, I've cut up a t-shirt into little squares that I wrap around my underwear, after use I just dry them and throw them in the hamper to be washed. I decided what size the cloth piece should be by taking a pair of undies, laying it on the shirt, wrapping the fabric around it three times (you could do more if you want them to absorb more/last for a longer time), and then cut it there. The length of my pads is slightly longer than the little cotton square in my undies. When wearing them, I just wrap it around the undie, and hold it in place when pulling up the undie. Basically, the same way you would wrap toilet paper around your underwear if you got your period unexpectedly. I put the ends on the inside of the undie (so the start and end of the wrap is absorbing my blood), and get two layers of cloth to absorb blood before it hits my undies. All my undies are already stained, so I don't care about that, but you should probably do more layers, or switch more often than I do if you want to avoid staining. Super easy, free (as the t-shirt I cut up was just going to get donated), and sustainable. One t-shirt made enough squares for me to get through my whole period without needing to put on a load of laundry for it!

    I like my cup and reusable pads a lot! (although it's not that I'm excited to use it every month,lol) 😀 Been trying out a menstruation sponge as well for lighter days which can be cut into shape to fit inside. You insert it just like a cup or tampon, and then remove after maybe 6 hrs, wash and rinse with cold water and insert again. But I struggle with it because it hurts inside a bit and I feel like it's easier with the cup because it keeps the blood inside. With the sponge I often have the feeling that it's soaked already.

Lately I cannot get it to seal properly which is not so helpful whilst a full day at work.
