THANK YOU! I'm an interior design student in the 2nd quarter of CAD. So my understanding and abilities with this program are very limited. For my Historical Preservation class (and for a local group) I'm trying to work from a scan of a 1929 set of blue prints. I knew how to import the image. But until I found your tutorial I had no idea how to scale it to the right size.
Richard Craven Thats great Richard. Thanks for the information on what you are working on....sounds like a great and worthy task to undertake/ I'm glad my video was helpful for you. If you want to learn a lot more on using AutoCAD, I have a training course on my channel I am working on at the momen. There are a few videos up at the moment and I will be adding more as time goes on to complete the course. It is a bit dry to begin with, but the course is designed to cover a lot of details in using AutoCAD. Thanks again for the comment.
hi, yeah spending more time on making it smooth is the way to go. Also, if arcs or circles don't look smooth on screen type 're' or 'regen' at the command prompt to smooth out the lines visually.
Hi ... glad to find that you create AutoCAD tutorial. I was a newbie and a lot of questions in my head. I am currently trying to create a design RC Plane using 3 plans view. if you do not mind, please give a tutorial on how to make the design of the aircraft ... ranging from improt image, partially separated parts, then convert the image into a PDF file of the original size of the paper into the paper (non tiled to Tiled). I hope you have time to share your knowledge. Thank u very Much
Hi, thanks a lot for this learning curve. You helped me a lot. As many others have asked for, would really be nice to give is the possibility to learn how to convert from 2D to 3D. In my case this would help me modelling for 3d printing. Thanks a lot
Well, yes, you could use this method if you inserted a block that was drawn in different measurements than what you are using. For example, if I drew something in inches then wanted to scale the block to millimetres, I could use this method. You can also change the units when inserting a block using the insert command. But if you are just dragging and droppping blocks into your drawing, use the method shown in the video.
Hi Andrew, The drop-down menu of the layers shows only 30 layers. I have more than 30 and the only way to see the hidden ones, I have to use the slide bar. Is it possible to make the drop-down menu for the layers to show more? Thanks.
Thanks Quinten I am glad you liked the video. I just uploaded a new video that is more detailed on how to draw Porsche 911 if you wanted to learn some more. My latest video is ua-cam.com/video/ic4HmbK6s-E/v-deo.html
Great video, would have liked to have seen you trace all of the outlines and make a 3D model of the car though (as a series I guess) but I did learn stuff which is great.
Balaji Duddupudi hi dear this is a useful video. I like this . I found many tips. Another resource I also found useful for how to draw cars like a pro step by step is Skyarza Car Sketching Star - if anyone is interested search on google
i have 1 question for autocad 2007. i use autocad 2007. e.g. i made 5 different .dwg file. file name is like part1 to part 4 and last file is all the parts assembly. if i make change in part file like any dimension or width. then i save this file. this change is shown in assembly. is this possible?
yes it is possible. What you are wanting to use are called: xrefs Look up the xref command in AutoCAD. I also do a basic video on xrefs on my channel or you could just google xref tutorial to learn more. Good luck
I tried this on the mac version without much success - think i am missing something. when i scale for 100mm and measure [Di] i get 109.876 so similar - what have i missed here?
I drew the line on my drawing and then typed R and clicked to end point etc as you said and then once I typed in the measurement I wanted it to be & clicked enter, it didn't scale my whole image, it just scaled the line i drew :/ ... please help!
Hi Rajbir, I will do that for you. Is there a certain type of tractor you would like me to teach on how to draw? If you subscribe to my channel, you will be notified when I upload the video. I will try and do it tomorrow. You can also send me your email address and I can write to you as well when uploaded. If you have any other things you would like to learn i will do that for you too.
Mladen H hi, use the AutoCAD command: imageclip Select the clip, press Enter, Type N then Enter (or just press Enter), then choose an option you want to use to clip. Just follow the command prompt when it asks for user input
+Stan yu Yes that is a good point but not everyone will have AI. Also "image trace" type functions in many software packages only work well with black and white line drawings. In the real world, many times you need to trace photographs such as buildings to use as elevations for streetscapes. image trace things don't always work well in these instances.
I really wanted to learn on how to scale an imported image, but your video was really fast, not covering the title of the actual video, laterally, you're trying to explain how to scale for someone who knows already. Next time when make a video, make sure to explain to someone who doesn't know how to the matter, and don't forget, slowly, in other words, hold your horses.
I'm not sure what you mean? What could I have done differently? By your logic I think you need to have consideration for the person reading your comment, not just yourself.
Very clear tuturial on how to scale. You'd be surprised how many people have confused the crap outta me on how to do this. Thanks x

What did you press (several times) at 2:38 to get to "Specify scale factor" ?
You just press the space bar to scroll through the commands
Andrew Espie-Whitburn Thank you very much :-)
thank you. Finally I figured what I was doing wrong. awesome.
Many thanks - a useful tutorial.
Would this be the same procedure for importing CAD blocks (kitchen / bedroom / bathroom ) drawings?

Very helpful exactly what I needed to learn from! Thanks a million!
Great, glad it was helpful, thanks for commenting
thanks for the video, i got a question : Would Raster Design 2014 make it easier and faster to outline the part you did ?
Great video, Thank you for sharing.
Great video, would have liked to have seen you trace all of the outlines and make a 3D model of the car though (as a series I guess) but I did learn stuff which is great.

Egils Rezgorins i was able to find solution by my self, switch from 2D wireframe to realistic solves the problem! :)
Egils Rezgorins Thank you so much :)
Egils Rezgorins thanks for the comment and I'm glad you worked out the issue.
I tried this on the mac version without much success - think i am missing something. when i scale for 100mm and measure [Di] i get 109.876 so similar - what have i missed here?
Very nice!!!
So Please, I try use one image.tif, size of 1Gb, but I can´t load..Please can you help me? Thanks a lot.
You may have to try and reduce the .tif file size. 1GB is a very large file to import, and if your computer isn't up for it, won't load.
Hi. Can you tell me why I Can not draw a line on jpg. The line is always on the egde of image, not inside
I drew the line on my drawing and then typed R and clicked to end point etc as you said and then once I typed in the measurement I wanted it to be & clicked enter, it didn't scale my whole image, it just scaled the line i drew :/ ... please help!

Mladen H hi, use the AutoCAD command: imageclip Select the clip, press Enter, Type N then Enter (or just press Enter), then choose an option you want to use to clip. Just follow the command prompt when it asks for user input
79Espie Thanks a lot!
good job
Software name share me
It is called AutoCAD
thank you!
awsome!
actually you can open the image in AI and "image trace" it to "line art" or only line and export to dwg file and re scale it in cad...
+Stan yu Yes that is a good point but not everyone will have AI. Also "image trace" type functions in many software packages only work well with black and white line drawings. In the real world, many times you need to trace photographs such as buildings to use as elevations for streetscapes. image trace things don't always work well in these instances.

goto a website called smcars dot net and you will find hundreds, if not thousands of drawings of vehicles
ok got it - missed second point - my bad
glad you worked it out
not clear cant see any thing
try watching in higher resolution and full screen
very bad explanation, you must care about your watcher not just like talking to yourself..
I'm not sure what you mean? What could I have done differently? By your logic I think you need to have consideration for the person reading your comment, not just yourself.

thank you
Marvin Rimando glad you liked the video, thanks
