    That is fantastic. Amazing what a good machinist can do. Just bought a cannon from an old machinist that fires carbide. Would looooove a BP capable one. The carbide is very loud but I really miss the smoke and recoil.

    Cannons and mortars, probably almost all guns until the industrial revolution, were made of Cast Steel.

    Love the video!! Would you be able to provide the dimensions for the breech and breech plug?

    • @michaelpierson7256
      @michaelpierson7256 Рік тому +1

      U can use whatever size breech plug u want so long as its bigger than bore dia. The important thing is thread length should be at least as long as the bore dia, a 3"gun should have a 3" long thread minimum. Dixie gun works has cannon blue print books, such as (artillery for the land service of the United states 1849-1865 ) it covers 3"guns & 6pdr. Prints cover guns & all carriage parts. They have about 20 books for differant cannons & mortars.

      Another source for same blue print books are antique ordnance publishers. There really good drawings that fold out, the first half is barrel prints 2nd half is all the carriage parts, Paulson bros. Is a good source of full size carriage parts, south bend ordnance replicas has the best barrels, their cast solid then drilled, other makes cast around a liner, that's not good (air pockets in steel)

      Here's the link to my price list page. I'm quite certain that the price of metal hasn't gone up yet this year, so the prices are pretty firm if you can make an order withing the next 3-6 months. www.gatlinggunsforsale.com/price-list.html

      @@alexbarry689 You certainly won't find an original Gatling for less than $40k, his price is not unreasonable especially since it includes delivery and training. It's essentially hand made, and the skills and machines needed are not cheap.

    How much damage can such a cannon cause? I have a tip for figuring it out. You take how much damage you think that it would cause and then reduce it by 95% to get an accurate picture. Hollywood isn't exactly shy about exaggerating things. One 6 pounder roughly equals the military power of 3-4 just muskets, and that is if the operators are competent. 90% of their value is in psychological warfare.

      @@garymichie8353 no you do not. Nothing about that cannon was period correct except for the look. You used the wrong kind of metal. You used the wrong method of forming the cannon. And you painted it rather than curing it. It looks nice but you cheated and lied about it asking you just showed us a video of you making it.
