    It has been 90F for several days and some nights aren't even getting below 70F. Feels like we are in for a long hot and humid summer in Mississippi.
    But it also means that a lot of plants are already blooming and even in fruit, like or dormanred raspberry, granny smith apple, concord grape, comfrey, cilantro, and even gladiolus.

    makes ya wonder how long those store bought raspberries were picked before purchasing at a store. Growing your own always taste better anyway! :-) thanks for the video.

    When I lived in TX, I used to raise chickens. There was so much predator pressure that I built a covered run for them (54'x8'x10'). The summers are so hot in Austin that I grew muscadines over this run. I designed it so that there was a male plant in between two females along both sides of the run, for a total of seven varieties and fourteen plants, allowing for an extended harvest season.
    It turns out that chickens really enjoy fermenting grapes that drop off the vines, plus it kept them cooler and drier.
    Love your videos; thanks for posting!

    Wow! Everything is looking great at your place! Nice update! It's been good weather here in Oregon. Mostly in the 70s and 80s where I'm at. Nights get down to the 50s, so that's been good for the tomatoes and peppers. They don't like to get too cold. I've got tomatoes, peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, and pickling cucumbers planted in the garden. The back deck has potted plants all over it like blueberries, different flavors of mint, cilantro, oregano, marjoram, and thyme. Still have a lot left in the greenhouse that needs to be planted out in the garden. Will get to it soon. Great video, as always!

      Thanks, and thanks for sharing! I didn't show my blueberries, but they are doing good too!

    There are some stray cats in my neighborhood but thankfully I have two of the best cat defense system in the world & they don't even look at my garden! The Rottie's do their job extremely well! 😆👍👍

    Great video! Just curious if you have a specific reason for growing the black locust tree? Thanks!

    You got to love volunteer plants. Almost half my garden is plants I didn't put in this year. Sunflowers, tomatoes (that are doing way better then the ones I started inside), radishes, lettuce, mustard, dill, carrots (that never came up last year are doing amazing) and I'm sure I'm missing a couple. I'm calling it my volunteer garden and am actually considering doing fall planting on a lot of this stuff for next year.

    I went to MOS school down in Meridian, MS, but that was in the fall so I've never had to spend a summer in that environment, however I can tell you it's going to be a long & miserable one here in SC... Are you using clover as ground cover?

    • @JandjacresNet
      @JandjacresNet  7 років тому +1

      We are trying to replace all of our nasty grass with clover.

    Looking good, Jared. The grapes look amazing. I made some panel trellises recently, I can't wait for them to be covered up like that! I have been thinking about getting some comfrey, after listening to a podcast about it. What variety do you have?

    • @JandjacresNet
      @JandjacresNet  7 років тому +1

      I have true comfrey, mostly, but also some russian.

    • @K5ATA
      @K5ATA 7 років тому

      Ahh. The podcast I was listening to suggested Russian, but only because it was less invasive I think. I am still doing my research as to what type I want. You still good with us coming by to check out the farm? We will be in Meridian June 10th.

      @JandjacresNet  7 років тому

      Sure, it's really not that much to look at, but you're welcome nonetheless. I'll pencil you in for the 10th. Any idea on a time?
      I started growing comfrey as fodder for animals - I wanted it to spread.

      There are two main varieties of sterile Russian hybrids: Bocking 4 and Bocking 14. See permies.com/t/15975/Comfrey-Bocking-Clarification for the differences. Best wishes on your research and plantings.

      Does local ordinance allow you to water from the tap?

    A friend of mine, Sam Arnold, in Central TX swears that when he regularly irrigates his mesquite, there are far fewer, if any, thorns. I wonder if that might be true for black locust?

    • @JandjacresNet
      @JandjacresNet  7 років тому +1

      Curious. I will have to look in to that, thank you
