      @@galaxyman9941 True... But as I learned today, you definitely want to relieve as much of the pressure as you can from the actual pressure relief valve at the top of the unit...first. Why you ask? Water. Everywhere...

    Great video. I bought this compressor after seeing your other video.
    I don't like the regulator either, because it seems to have a significant pressure drop when using a higher volume tool. When I use my impact it drops ~20 psig.
    I've seen some people connect different regulators and connectors right off the other side of the pressure switch (there is a plug in it right now).
    Keep up the good work.

    • @shoptalk8163
      @shoptalk8163  5 років тому +2

      Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for subscribing! You're spot on about the pressure drop. The whole idea is that a pressure regulator *maintains* pressure while the compressor is off with an open line and when the compressor is on and recovering- right? Well this setup is registering a drop *while running,* so your first instinct is to adjust the regulator while the line is open, right? Doing this has still produced inconsistent / sometimes scattered output.
      There's some great information on forums out there, will put something else on (higher CFM rated regulator) and see how it goes. Hopefully it solves both of our problems!
      Cheers Bill

    Bought one today its ridiculously quiet. Only downfall is no shut off valve to the lines. The lines are always pressurized if you leave them connected. Its definitely worth the $249. If I get 2 years out of it for that price I'd be a happy camper.

      I added an air drier/filter between the pressure manifold and the switch unit, and also added a ball valve there.

      Ok, I think I have a work-around. When the compressor reaches full pressure and automatically shuts off, within a minute or two walk over and cycle the on off switch to off until all of the pressure is relieved. Then place it back to the on position. Now when you hit your low pressure threshold it will automatically kick back on again. It worked for me today like that all day.

      Same here. I returned the first one I got because the motor would stall when the tank was partially pressurized. The second one seemed better at first, for about a month, and now it's doing the same stupid thing. Too late to return it, and since other people are having the same problem, I bet there isn't an easy fix. And yes, it's a 20A outlet without other loads running.

    Hey just wanted to say i think this was a really great video and well worth it. Thank you so much.. i am in the market for purchase and was just wondering any updates? Any additional pros or cons regarding this unit? For me, I was looking at this unit, and the HF Fortress 27gal high performance, and the HF Fortress 26 ultra quiet version for comparisons. I see that the HF 27gal is in the upwards of 459.00 in my area, the HF 26gal is 299.99, and right now the Kobalt is 339.00. In addition though, the kobalt by default has a 3yr warranty where as the HF has 90 days before spending extra on extended warranty. As for my usage. Im looking to do some paint spraying HLVP for some woodworking. My husky gun advises 27gal minimum 4.5 SCFM at 90psi. Whats your opinion on compressor ? And do you have a link for that air filtration M30 ? All advise is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the excellent video and sharing your experiences with the compressor. This is on my short list for purchase. I'm also considering the Husky 30 gallon oil-free compressor and looking at a few California Air Tools models. I've had variable experiences with both Kobalt and Husky power tools over the years - mostly QC issues or a sub-standard component. Seems that there's always some cost cutting that isn't obvious - like the regulator.

      Kenneth Shaw Hello did you purchase a compressor? I was looking at those California Air type units. One that had a bigger tank and 2 horsepower motor with 6 cfm. I checked Silent Air out. It looks cheesy compared to the Husky unit. Did you purchase anyone of those. Thanks Joe

    Did you have an issue with getting the air hose fitting into the quick connect coupler on the compressor? I purchased 1/4" fittings and they seem like they're too large to go into the couplers. The outer sleeve on the coupler is stuck in the down position which I'm used to them being in the up position.

    I took close looks at the display models of this compressor, a Dewalt, and the Husky 30 gallon C303H. I bought the Husky at Home Depot for $289 and am very pleased with it. I posted a 4/5 star review on the HD site due to a few out of the box minor issues. The Kobalt was a very close second. The deal breaker was what looks like a 1/8" inlet/supply into the bottom of the pressure regulator. There is a short piece of 1/4" ID pipe from the tank that tapers to 1/8" ID just as it enters the regulator. Could you confirm this? This may be the restriction that limits the air volume and causes a pressure drop as demand exceeds the restricted supply. The regulator looks typical of those on this size compressor. However, the internals are hidden. It is an integral part of the metal manifold, and I didn't observe that the rear of the regulator was plastic. Build quality on the Kobalt was impressive. The Husky has a 1/4" ID supply into the regulator and operates at 175 PSi. This tipped the scales for me.
    Also, repair parts availability for the Kobalt may be a challenge if you need parts for the compressor, motor or regulator. Opinions? Source? The Lowes approach seems to be to buy the extended warranty, and they will replace the whole unit. Parts for the Husky are readily available from several sources. Same motor, regulator and motor components as the 33 gallon Craftsman and Campbell Hausfeld models. I did buy the extended warranty from HD, but it is a repair plan rather than replacement. Hopefully, we both have good luck with longevity of our compressors. Again, thanks for your review.

    • @nicksgarage2
      @nicksgarage2 5 років тому +2

      I bought the Husky one yesterday at Home Depot for $309 because my Lowes didn't have the Kobalt one in stock. When I got the Husky home and took it out of the box, the bracket holding one of the wheels was bent causing it to hit the tank. I probably could have straightened it out but I knew they had another in stock so I exchanged it this morning. At lunch, I drove by the Lowes and they actually did have one in stock and a sign saying it was on sale for $279. So I bought that one too. Now I can compare them side by side. Each has advantages in the specs over the other. I didn't buy an extended warranty on either. The Husky has a 2 year warranty and the Kobalt has a 3 year. I'm really interested in the sound level as the videos online are all over the place.

    • @Lankston21

      @@Lankston21 Here is a short video comparison of the sound of them.
      ua-cam.com/video/1u23m7QhTUE/v-deo.html
      I ended up keeping the Kobalt and it has been great. It recovered faster and it was quieter with a less harsh sound. Even more of a difference than my phone camera produced in the video. I know it's a smaller capacity and lower pressure and that helps with the recovery time, but it seemed more efficient at running. The smaller diameter also fit the spot it was going much better. It was $40 cheaper than the Husky with a longer warranty. I piped air around my shop using Rapid Air 1/2 tubing.

    *After years of hauling around a large,💫 **allabout.wiki/PORTER** heavy, loud dewalt air compressor (that ironically was advertised as quiet, supposedly 78dB), I bought this. Facepalm. While it is not ‘silent’, I find myself chuckling every time I use it, sparing all my neighbors the terror of my former compressor. I use for inflating tires, impact wrench, finish nailers. Absolutely love it. And I store it under the garage sink in a 24” cabinet. I paired with a coil 1/2”, instead of a my former 50’ 5/8” hose that I had to lug across the yard from the shed, unpleasantly uncoil.... this little guy is light and portable; just a joy. Impact wrench is still capable of easing lug bolts, flywheel bolts, crank pulleys... just allow for a tiny bit of recovery now and then.*
