- Even though I've posted this before, with the recent passing of Georgia Hase, I thought there might be a few people on this page that haven't seen this grainy video montage of a game we skated in Madison Square Garden - skated at the Hartford Civic Center and then bussed down to NYC - R.I.P. Danny, John, Georgia, George, LeRoy....it was a good game...my best memory of it is when LeRoy fell on purpose in front of the pack and I screamed like a woman when I jumped over him...he was laughing when he got back in the pack...

Derby was "three squares a day," while Games was funnel cake at the theme park. Grew up with Derby, enjoyed Games until the demise of rugged "roller sports." I'd welcome a revival of banked tracks, talented skaters (male and female), and quads without stoppers.
Miss Mizz Georgia Hase!
Love me some Danny Reilly!!
The Roller Games and it’s circus like antics just don’t seem right in MSG.
Actually a bit surprised it drew that much a crowd. Then too it wasn't much better later with David Lipschultz's IRSL. I'd love to see the attendance figures between both leagues. Still from watching old videos looked about the same. Surprising I know considering this was Roller Derby, not Games territory for the longest. Games didn't set well in San Francisco either.
It's disgusting!!!
Thanks
lots of talented skaters but just a wild unbelievable game
Roller derby put roller games to shame it was such a staged theater roller derby was a sport
@ least Roller Derby has the resemblance of some sport. Yes more so then Games to me as well which seemed to rely too much on theatrics & had not much confidence in the skating talents of their own Skaters.
I agree. The games ruined the Derbys reputation and prevented it from ever being recognized as a legitimate sport in the eyes of the sporting world.
Darnn Right, Roller Derby was the BEST!!!
@@georgegong6813 I spoke to Alphonso reyes and Tim Patton about derby and they, well tim said about 70 percent was scripted ,and the rest was skated legi Al Reyes told me if you cant take a punch dont join the derby. The Derby tried skating a few no script games in the mid 80s, but the scores started getting too 1 sided, and they didnt think the fans would want to see that the scripting also allows the red shirts to get a comeuppance during the 7th and 8th periods I have a part of 1 of those games and its a bombers / chiefs with both teams loaded with talent, no fights and Joanie Weston needed a lot of help to cover the back of that pack, unlike the scripted games, no one ever told me how the conclusions of the games were handled.
@@jeffthekillercriticremixer5968 Yes I read some of the same information you obtained reading Jim Fitzpatrick's latest book on the history of Roller Derby. I believe you as I've also heard similar information from other Skaters. Needless to say I look @ the entire spectacle very differently now. Granted it could had meant for some lopsided games though just speaking from someone who's a hardcore sports fanatic, just me though I wished they just allowed the chips to fall as it may. Kept it as a legitimate game then too I have little control minus just being another fan. For any resurgence of the game today likely wouldn't work. Been following the history behind television & radio. How it progressed as well over time & likely the Derby I admired would work today anyhow. Just me I still prefer the Derby approach vs Games. Just wasn't as over the top if you will. Thanks for the reply
Full Video Please !! TY
Nice clip, Ted- even if you had to take a shot in the chops!
What was the attendance...looked like a great crowd
Question. Who's the blond guy skating for the red team? I know the coach was Leroy Gonzales, but who's that blond guy backing him up?
Parker could hardly move.😅
What a waste! MSG fans probably did not expect such theatrical skating. This is what killed the sport.
Hahaha. Porky Parker no. 9.
This video clip sucked. Cut all to pieces--and every cut in the wrong place--. What a waste of time.
Honest I believe it was more so the presenting product shown then the video itself! LOL!
