Nice overview - Not to mention the SMA ABU’s key you used to open/close the ABU, has a built-in Bottle opener (Easter Egg...Happy Easter) ;). Keep up the good work~. Go SMA America

Nice clean install and great overview of the system.

Very sweet looking install. Those batteries seem to take more space than power wall for the same size - two power walls would be same or more and would take up space the same as one of those towers, right?

Correct, and each powerwall provides 20.8A of continuous current (on a 30A breaker).

Nice overview but the system seems much much larger than the Solaredge version.

Dale thanks for your speedy reply.what other technology are there to use with an install like this to monitor your pv's...how would you know if there is a pv that's underperforming etc etc.I really like Enphase but the ensemble battery capacity is an issue...is it possible to route the micro inverters from the roof to indoor room with extended cords?
    Thanks

Superb setup. May I asked the kw ratings of the two inverters? Thanks

Another thing not mentioned in this video is that Enphase and Solaredge are do not really have proven reliability (i.e hundreds or thousands of systems that have been out there running for 10 years solid for example). SMA do. In fact I've got an old sunny boy 3.8 in a store room in work - it's just been putting out electricity day in day out for the last 10+ years zero issues zero maintenence. I don't think it's even ever had the fan filters cleaned. I am highly unconvinced that the current best thing ever manufacturers like Enphase will match that. Be interesting to see how many microinverter systems are still running on their original micro inverters 15 years down the line!

    Hi Dale!
Another nice video of yours, i do have the same question is Systems still produce from sunlight even if the batteries are full?
    Thanks

Hi Dale what other competition does SMA have which you are you referring to here in the video... ie.what other product is better than SMA and why. Thanks

Everyone’s situation is different. Enphase would be the next best comparable product.

@Dale “Tesla shuts off power from panels when battery full”. Can you explain further?

A simple solution is get more batteries

TESLA uses a typical AC coupled approach (it seems SMA is replicating DC advantage with their AC system) where in a grid power outage during the day the solar generation is shut down and you run the house off the POWER WALL wasting new solar generation that could be used either "live" and or stored. According to this video SMA are allowing simultaneous continued solar generation that you can use "live" and dump whatever you don't need in the moment into the batteries. DC coupled systems do this anyway but most AC coupled systems don't. SMA seems to have sorted that difference.

You’re going to cook those batteries in direct sunlight year round.

We did install a shade canopy. It’s just not shown in the video.

Cost? Shading remains an issue? But another solar/storage solution choice. Nice early overview.

SMA make an optimizer designed to be only on those panels with shading issues unlike say SOLAR EDGE where you have to use their optimizers on every single panel. SMA have made an optional optimizer to be applied only where needed.
