Dear Marce, I was constantly smiling during this episode. You are making us such a favour to share these precious moments with your wonderful daughter with us ! So thank you. I am a mother of two girls 28 and 26 years old wich I am very proud of, so I appreciate very much ! I am currently finishing a sweater for my husband, a basic stockinette raglan, but I am knitting a cabled sweater too, it is the Wryit pullover by kate Davies. I am also knitting my second Half and half wrap by Purl Soho using Holst Supersoft for comfort and watching tv knit. On the sock front i will cast-on soon your Pop socks for wearing , in DK rustic yarn, I am thinking of Siri and Ullcentrum, two norvegian and Sweedish brands. I send to you my best wishes for the new year !
I find it so funny to see warm weather as we combat record clod here in BC :) You daughter is lovely and to have her join you is special! It so resonated with me when you said you wanted to finish your socks to lock in the memories of time with your friend. I would knit sweaters for all my classmates in college on the guarantee that they would wear them on exam day. I could remember what I studied when I knitted them, is that like a cheat sheet? It is so wonderful to have memories locked into our garments.
What fun to have your daughter be a knitter too. I knit with my mama, who left this world when I was in my early 30’s. None of my kids have an interest in carrying on the tradition, but I do have several young friends who use me as a resource, which feels great. I love your tradition of picking a show with your daughters and watching and critiquing together. Oh- what recipe will you choose. That British Baking show is ah-mazing! Your sock patch is very impressive. I bought a little hand loom and was playing with it before Christmas. It reminded of the little table loom I had as a child- fun! That cabled sweater looks great- I definitely do not have the patience and perseverance to do one, but I do love that place in a challenging project when my brain stops hurting, I can read my stitches and I relax and revel in my project and new found skills (quite a feat for this 70 year old). I cast on several new projects to start off 2022 after the usual marathon of gift knits for Christmas. A pair of socks using YOUR pattern, which have been ripped back a few times due to my measurement not working, but they are coming along and I am slip stitching the heck out of them, so hopefully I won’t need to weave a patch down the way. I also cast on Stephen West’s Painting Waves cowl-a gift for ME- eek! And a test knit Slalom Hat, from Melissa of Knitting the Stash, with divine yarn for my older brother’s January birthday. Learning new things and just loving it (ripping aside) with a comfort knit for those times when my brain needs a rest. 👌 perfect! Gotta day, a fire to fend off the flies and bees looks mighty good from the Canadian north in the midst of Snowmagedden.
I hope you’re finding warm moments! Thanks for your comment and ac reminder to feel grateful for crafting with my kids! We baked Amanda’s milk bread cinnamon rolls, a recipe we found in the GBBO website. They were incredible tasting! Thank you for knitting my pattern; smart to skip stitch now instead of mending more later.
You and Drew have raised a wonderful family...but you know that already. The grey and yellow look so beautiful. And your woven patch is very neat - proof of the time and care you have taken. Thanks, as always, for sharing your time, your skills and, this time, your family. Wishing you all happiness xx
Dearest, Lesley- It means a lot that this is one of the ways I can connect with you. Your podcast is high up in my small list of favorites and your visits here mean a lot.
In the last week I have caked yarn, printed out patterns, and got ready for several new projects for 2022. While there are many socks I want to knit, I also have an outdoor vest, some sweaters, and a couple of shawls. Then I made a list of friends I would like to make things for. Good thing I have some podcasts to watch to keep me going. Lovely to see your daughter join you.
Hello there! how nice to meet your daughter, what a lovely lady and a knitter too! I wish you all the best for 2022. My goals for this year I put together in a knittingbingo. I have only choose 9 projects, but there are way more ideas in my head. I am working the last stitches on my Tea of Heaven sweater, with my own handspun. When it is finished I wil start a cabled sweater also with my handspun. I am a addicted sockknitter, luckely my husband and son love to wear them too. The socks you are making now are very beautiful, a nice collaboration with you and your dear friend. It was nice to see you again. Stay safe!!
Thank you for the gift of your podcast, so lovely to meet your daughter. Right now I have vanilla Stripey socks and a Vanilla sweater on my needles. Then I am making the Halliste shawl from 52 Weeks! Steeking and Estonian inlay! Can’t wait
And I appreciate you, Marce. So great to see you and your creative offspring enjoying time together. My stepdaughter is 24, and I don’t get to see her as much as I would like. I’m (finally) finishing a fingering weight sweater by La Maison Rillie. I plan to make more socks in 2022. I dropped a big hint for a bday gift-short interchangeables in small sizes-to facilitate said sock plans.
I loved getting to see you and your daughter enjoying each other. My knitting plans so far: I'm redoing cuffs on my advent stripe socks I just finished. It's wonderful having something in life that if I don't like it, poof, I can change it. Next will be your latest sock pattern. I have the yarn, just want to finish this sock redo first. This year I will also mend my hand knit socks. There are at least three pairs in the mending bowl that need my attention. I'm also knitting the City Limits sweater. Like you, a sweater is a several month project for me. I have no desire to stress myself by telling myself that I must finish it sooner. It will be done when it’s done. Janet You made big progress on your sweater since the last podcast. The texture is so enticing. Thanks for sharing your progress.
Hi Janet!! Thanks so much for the encouragement. Cheers to our long and short term projects. I hope you’ll love the sock pattern, and you know where to find me if you need help! 🤎
Adachi is darling! You must be such a proud mama! I love the way she is involved with knitting as well. Those sock blanks from Maria are fabulous…..don’t know that I could break them up to knit. The book looks really interesting and I appreciate you both braving the flying insects to sit with us i his space!
loved seeing you two. I admire Sarah's work, so it will be fun to see the new test knit as you go. Loved Adachi's project photos. Hope you enjoyed the awesome fire and time to chill with each other--it's been my favorite thing about break with Z: he's home and there is TIME for random conversations and just being together :)
It's been several months since I've watched a knitting podcast, and it's a bit late for me to still be up watching videos, but I absolutely loved this little time hanging out with both of you (while coloring with colored pencils - my new favorite activity for relaxing and an evening habit I'm loving this year). I was quickly reminded of your big hugs, Marce, at SAFF, and enjoyed reminiscing again... and then you shared your socks from the sock blank! How lovely to see your finished project... and now you might be convincing me to try it out. 🙂 Thanks for sharing a bit of your time and knitting with us, and I hope you both have a wonderful year ahead. Big hugs, my friends! ❤
I am currently working on a shawl for a friend. I dyed the wool myself at a workshop and the colours are symbolic of the central tube lines in London when my friend visited my home country for the first time in 2010! I started socks for the first time last year and have a pair on the needles, two at a time, that are for my husband, which I need to pick up and finish. I'm not really good at multiple projects, because I often start something new and then don't finish anything LOL. Darning was one of my jobs as a young girl that my mum showed me and then gave me the task of mending my dad's wool work socks. Always a good skill to have. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing you with your daughter, she is such a pleasure - like her mum!
Smoke does help to keeps bugs away, but try a tea of lavender and/or rosemary you put in a spray bottle and squirt on yourself. Very cooling and smeels good with no chemicals. The sock darning/waving is so nice. I love making things for my daughter as well, she has a model's body and she loves and appreciates my homemade things for her. Lovely wool you are using for the test knit. I definitely must do a sock blank this year. I spent the 4 days over Christmas with my daughter, she lives about an hour from me, an Architect. It was so good those 4 days as she and her boyfriend invited all their single/alone friends for Christmas lunch and we cooked off a feast gathering all the strays and sat chatting until 4 the next morning!! I truly enjoy the younger generation and their insights
Seeing Adachi made me exited to be going back to work on campus tomorrow as the new term starts - that Gen Z vibe is pretty great. For knitting, I just finished my first sweater - complete with customizing it with decreases and increases so that it can do well with my roundness. I’m SO happy with it, I’m going to wear it tomorrow to show off, even though it’s not blocked yet. My students work with me at the Craft Center, so they will appreciate it, they are a very crafty group. I just started another sweater, this one has a colorwork yoke. For socks I have a ball of nice pink heritage sock yarn that is begging to be knit up. My crafty goals for the next year are to get my loom out of storage and brought into the house, even if I have to sacrifice some furniture to make it happen, and to relearn spinning once my new wheel comes in. I was never great at it, but I’m excited, it’s such a soothing process. Thanks for a great episode. I admit that now that I found your channel I binged a number of your episodes. I’ve been stressed and it’s hit the right mark.
Podcast Day is such a joy, and it was so lovely to meet your Oldest 💗 My plan for this year is to complete the Weaving courses at The School of Sweet Georgia. I'm not an absolute beginner at weaving, but I have already learned so much from the Essentials class. Today I'm waiting for some fabric to go through the laundry for a sewing project for my Younger (the middle baby) who turns 16 on Thursday. Your video was just enough time to get some progress made on a weaving journal to keep at my loom. Thank you for always welcoming us in to your peaceful world.
Well this was just the best. ❤️ My 5 yr old came to watch with me. And her comments were so sweet "We watch that together too! We like to try that too! You're a knitter! I love to see you do that too!" Heartwarming. Love to you both! 💞 I'm currently knitting through Cori from Irocknits new Pears of Socks pattern collection. 🧦♥️
Yes,I chose the best segment to get back watching your podcast again. Hello Addaci, she's grown up so lovely. 👋I don't have children, but it's so lovely the respore you have with them. I too have been watching the Canadian bake off, because not having cable I couldn't get find the recent UK one. I don't know how those home bakers do it;they have so many exotic recipes to create. I would never survive the show🍰⏳😧
Thanks for this beautiful episode! I love that you are mending. I set the intention to do more mending this year, and today I mended the holes in the pockets of a pair of jeans.
As you know, I always have several projects on rotation! Current active WIPs are a pair of High Desert Socks by Lindsey Fowler using yarns from my yarn advent by River of A Knitter's Homestead, a Half + Half Triangles Wrap by Purl Soho, and the Coloring Book Raglan pullover test knit for Aimee Sher. Thank you for sharing you wonderful Adachi with all of us Marce. Yes to proactive mending! I recently mended a sock for my daughter and I am currently mending another sock as I watch. GBBO fan here too!!! Take care! ~Stephanie
Love this! My shy oldest daughter left the Midwest in 2014 for a new life in FL at UT. This was THE BEST decision for her as she blossomed quite a bit during her time there. The graduated Dec. 2018 from their business school. It’s a beautiful campus. Best of luck & Enjoy!
I can’t express how much I love watching you. I’m not envious of the flies!! Summer will be here soon enough. My goal is a pair of socks per month. Before summer arrives I hope to complete two sweaters. Anything else will be a bonus!!!
Hi Marce, I must admit it is a bit unusual to see someone in shorts and tee/tank tops in December. There is a chance of show here in the Ohio Valley tomorrow and mid 20's. Thanks for the darning tips. I do have a couple of sock blanks. I have hoarded them, but I have made a mental note to knit one this year. I just went onto her Etsy shop and they will email me when she reopens. Your daughter is so composed and seems like a very pleasant young woman. I think I could see myself sitting down with her for a chat and feeling very calm. Happy New Year
Fun podcast. I love the cabled, twisted rib sweater. To answer your question, after 50 years of intermittent knitting only very simple things, in 2021 I decided to challenge myself, learning socks and knitting a sweater and participating in shawlography. This year the plan is to continue to learn new things so I plan to learn cables by knitting the willow wrap by David Van de Kamp, and also do a colorwork yoke sweater
You are both so charming. I hope we get a few more mama/daughter podcasts. I think a pair of striped socks to use up some minis will be my next project after I finish my current cowl.
It is podcast day....It's podcast day is always a wonderful sound to my ears. I am working on some mittens for myself. Last year feels a bit of a let down for me for knitting. I think it was because I had 2 sweater project & I find that because of my shape I can be disappointed in the final project. Going forward this year I want to reflect on why I want to make the project & how to adapt it if need be. For instance I dont have mitts/gloves for myself so I would like to make 2 pairs for myself & also have second sweater for when I am walking in cold weather under my jacket. I have some other thoughts that I want to think through for my knitting. Thank you for the book review I will see if I can get it from the library app. You are a blessing dear ones!
Denise's videos are giving me the courage to try my sock again. Right now I'm in the midst of a make a long but honestly think making my own socks after so many failed attempts would 'connect' me to a past me when things in my life were very different and happier, healthier. It was lovely to meet your beautiful daughter, who also seems very bright. I'm old but am thinking that the number of semesters she mentioned would only add up to 3 years to get her bachelors - is that right? If so, she must have her mother's work ethic. I love that she's taking a class with her sister too. Very cool. It's nice to get to know you a little and I hope to continue to do so.
Welcome here! Adachi is in Year 3 now with 1 year + this semester to go to finish with her degree. They are definitely a brilliant student though! She and her sister do so many things well as a pair and individually, thank you for the kind words. Wishing you a very happy reunion with your knitting.
I’m new to your channel and I thoroughly enjoyed your podcast! My son is also 20 and on break from college, so it was great to see you and your lovely daughter together. Especially the part about the British Bake Off, which is a family favorite here too! I’m currently working on my Hinterland pullover, Grace pillow and Break In Tide Cowl. Hoping to cast on more color work sweaters once these WIPs are wrapped. Thank you for sharing your time with us.
Hello lovely friend! Loved the catch up. Sending you love and hugs from Wales, and here's to a happy and peaceful 2022 for you and your gorgeous family xx
Wow Haven't watched you for a while and this was such a beautiful episode. You and Adachi have a beautiful relationship. I have about 20 projects planned so far, lots of finishing up to do too. I do knit socks and LOVE doing them. Always have some on the needles. I was wondering about how I would find out about fitting socks that you talked about. One of the patterns I have planned next for my socks is your Intersections socks, going to use magic loop and first toe up. Can't wait. You have a wonderful spirit. It is a pleasure to watch you.
Thank you from both of us! This was such a treat. Many of my newer patterns have specific tips in them to help with fit. If you have questions as you’re working on Intersections, please email me. Since those are cabled, you will want to avoid knitting too tightly. Cables tend to pull in the fabric to create that lovely plump texture.
So lovely to see your relationship with your daughter, we love the bake off and find out what the coming week is and make something from that category to eat whilst watching 🍰🥖I have been working on cross stitch, a large project called the pilgrim from longdog samplers, my knitting is resting quietly 🙂
Oh my goodness, I cant imagine that many bugs in the winter! It takes a strong kind of person to live in Florida, I guess! :) It is currently snowy and kind of rainy in the Seattle area, so that feels more appropriate for the season, but I am getting a little tired of the cold already. So sweet to see how excited you are to have Adachi film with you! Great episode. This year, I am excited to try and work on my first sweater. I am going to knit a baby sized (1-2 year) sweater for the baby I am due to have in May! I'm hoping that I will learn the construction of it well enough that I'll be able to knit my own sweater sometime in the future, that is my ultimate goal. I feel like I am pretty comfortable and fairly confident as a sock/hat/shawl/cowl knitter, but sweaters are the next summit for me. Happy New Year! I like that you said you're giving the new year the benefit of the doubt; I am too!
I’m currently working on One Sweater DK from the Fiber Co. in Lore, the color “healer”. For Christmas I was gifted 5 skeins of Lore in the colorway Serene, so I’m working madly to get to that new yarn!! I got introduced to this lovely rustic yarn from you!! I believe you made a sweater in the color Heaven, which I promptly went out and purchased. This pattern is becoming my staple for the perfect raglan ❤️ Nice podcast today!
This was a lovely relaxing chat! Adachi has the same lovely calm about her as you do ❤️ I’m planning to make some of your socks this year, just need to decide which ones! I’m also going to be doing a huge WIP audit 🙈 x
I will let Adachi know this, and say thank you from us both ☺️ I know you can wrangle those WIPs, but if you start to doubt, I am here to remind you! If there’s a sock pattern you have your eye on, just message me any questions you have before you decide. Happy to help!
Loved watching the fire side chat with you both. I think Adachi may be following in your footsteps they would be great with a podcast too. They have your calm energy too. Definitely no gnats and bees in a very soggy Devon today.
Hello dearest, Francis! I have told them the very same in the past, and I will pass along this lovely feedback. Thank you! Sharing no sunshine with you from here 🌞
It’s nice to see Adachi, I think the last time was when Maria was there? Soooo I accidentally volunteered to do a test knit for socks. 🙄 I finally messaged the designer to let her know that I hadn’t meant to volunteer. She talked me into it elven though I had never knit socks, didn’t know how to do the scary Magic Loop or know what the German Twisted cast on was all about. But................ I learned all of that in a few minutes and my test knit was a success. After having knit both socks I have cast on another pair. Long story short 🙄😂😂😂 I want to learn more sock patterns so that is one of my goals this year. I also want to knit a shawl that challenges me. (That won’t be too hard because I tend to knit easier pieces/stitches). Happy New Year to you and yours, Marce. 🥳🥳🥳
I love your relationship you both have with one another. My children and I have a similar relationship and I love that. My new year’s project is a hat for my daughter and my grandson. Never done one so that is a fun new try. My wish for you is for a delightful and successful new year.
Lovely chat! My mother only ever knit one thing back in the nineties and it was a full stranded sweater for my dad (with an argyle pattern.) But when she saw my sewing machine in 2019 she decided she wanted one too and now she's been taking sewing classes and we're bonding over crafts. I got her her first garment sewing patterns for Xmas and I think I'll go over to my parents house I'm the spring and we can do them together ☺️ My plan for 2022 is to craft outfits. I started so many things on 2021 that I didn't finish because I wasn't sure how and when to wear them, so this year I'm planning ahead and making things that are meant to be worn together. Hopefully this will also push me to sew a bit more.
This sounds delightful My friend!!! Adachi wants an argyle vest, and I really want to make that happen. Making for Wearing is such a great way to go. I love to hear your plans and will welcome hearing/seeing your progress.
Right now, I’m focusing on finishing most of my many WIPs before starting anything new. But I also need to knit two baby shirts and pairs of pants for two of my friends who are due soon. I’m excited for the tiny cuteness and also to make something small. Sock blanks look so interesting! I hadn’t heard about them before seeing them on your channel. And GBBO is the greatest! If you can find The Great British Sewing Bee, I highly recommend it too!
Eeee tiny cuties. I get that. I haven’t seen the sewing bee yet, but I am so hopeful that it will come to Netflix or some other streaming service where I can get to it.
Happy New Year to you and your family. Thank you for sharing today I really enjoy your channel along with Earthtones girl I really get a sense of peace and for want of a better phase permission to slow down and be true to myself and not take on more than I am comfortable with to please others. I do not make new year resolutions but like you I have a word of the year which this year is purpose I also do something called 22 for 22 from Happier with Gretchen Rubin an audio podcast .Like Adachi I want to read more so on my list is read for at least 22 minutes a day another one is knit on a long term project for 22 minutes a day finish 22 knitted items this year and it doesn't matter if I don't get them done but it's nice to have goals. I am working on the safe at home blanket pattern but I am using up my cotton stash and making dishcloths while learning a new skill I am also working on the getting warmer cowl that Earthtones girl made and finally some honey mitts three projects are my happy place each giving me a different experience a new skill mindless knitting and a gift or charity knit that's what I'm up to I really enjoy when you are outside it reminds of Jamaica especially when you are burning bush I can see now why a lot of Jamaicans live in Florida I know the whole state is different but I guess it's the closest to home keep up the great work looking forward to seeing what you get up to this and coming years
Thank you so much for being here. I loved reading about your projects and your plans. We love being outside, too. Adachi especially enjoys time outdoors and I love having their company, so that works out. I love your 22s for 2022!
I'm currently working on a sock pattern called Red Dwarf. I liked the TV show as a kid and couldn't help but knit this pattern and quite a few people in one of my Facebook knitting groups also liked the show. I've found that my friends/family members that craft know how much time and effort goes into it. One of my uncles saw the pair of socks I made my grandma for her birthday and was obsessed with them. Needless to say, I'm mentally preparing myself to knit a pair of size 12 socks. I'm also trying to be better about mending my socks, I wear through the bottom of the heels very quickly. Unfortunately, a few pairs are so far gone they're going into the trash. But, I'm trying to remember to reinforce 3 inches from the back of the heel using non-superwash wool so I'm starting off with a double thickness heel that will felt in.
What a joy! You two are lovely! I love the idea of mending socks. I'm working on socks (!) and on a very long term project: an advent calendar of mini pullovers (by Arne and Carlos) so I can make them with no pressure!!!
I am currently knitting the Fireworks sweater for my mom who is totally knit worthy. And I will finish a pair of socks for my 15 year old son who is also knit worthy. I’ve never used a sock blank but they totally make gorgeous socks. I love how the color blends together. I’m on the hunt for a reversible cabled scarf pattern. I found some super squishy yarn at my LYS and it is calling me. Not sure when I’ll cast it on but hopefully after I’ve finished the sweater. I’m not particularly quick with knitting but love making things.
You and your daughter are so adorable together! Love seeing your project and thanks for the book recommendation. I am a crocheter --but learning knitting. Am attempting my first garment, the Harvest Cardigan by Tin Can Knits. I've had to start over 5 times now but I'm going to keep plugging along. Thank you for the inspirational video(s). :)
I have a pile of socks that need mending and my attempts in the past haven't been successful, probably because I didn't take care and take time. You've inspired me to accept that I need to slow down. Thanks!
How lovely to see you both today and hear about your makes! I have knit socks once from a sock blank but really didn’t like the crinkly texture to knit with! Perhaps now many, many pairs of socks down the line, I should try again! Take care and a happy new year to you and your family x
Totally understand this. It’s quite different from a standard skein. I have actually wound a sock blank into a skein more than once, then soaked it to relax it and then knit from it.
Quick thought about your (blue/pink) sock mending. Well done! Hope your repairs brings you a bit of whimsy and yet another reason to smile. [Random digression alert ... the care with which gave your repair reminded me Kintsugi - well that is, if you where to use gold yarn in place of the pink. ;)] Enjoyable épisode and glad to have discovered your inspiring and interesting channel! Casting on toe-up socks, 2 at once on magic loop needle size 0.
Hello, Joseph! Your thoughts and feedback are quite welcome, thank you! I had not heard of Kintsugi, and I intend to look that up to explore. How are your socks progressing??
@@heyBrownBerry Quite well and enjoying the yarns (a Christmas gift from a gifted fiber artist in VA). Also, sometimes having a knitting-on-cruise-control project can sooth the mind.
Hello from St. Louis Missouri! Happy New Year! I am working on a new pair of socks, and knitting the “ Love Note” and a cardigan. I try to knit each day.
Adachi is definitely knitworthy! So cool that they joined in on your podcast! In 2022, I want to try intarsia, though I don’t have a pattern in mind. I also just inquired about a test knit…not sure if I’ll get selected, but that would be a first.
I am finishing my Seaside V-neck Tee "sweater" from 2021 while deciding what my projects will be for 2022. There will be at least 2 sweaters, a shawl, a few hats, a couple of vests and a bunch of socks! I am also giving 2022 the benefit of the doubt, lol.
It was such a pleasure hanging out with you and your beautiful daughter. I enjoyed your podcast. I would love some sock planks can really use some info on where to get them.
I love browsing Etsy with a search for sock blanks. You’ll find some lovely ones there. My good friend Maria makes them and her Etsy shop is called Ninja Chickens. She will have stock again in Spring.
I hope to knit at least 3 pairs of socks, two shawls, and a hat in 2022. We’ll see how that goes as I am finding ways to fit knitting into new mom life. Knitting is calming to me if I keep it simple right now while taking care of my baby so while I love cables and lace I will be sticking to things I can quickly put down for the foreseeable future.
I had good intentions of finishing languishing WIP's, but have already gotten distracted by a KAL I'm going to join. It's with Moonstruck knits, and then back to my wips 😂. And maybe some new designs for 2022.
I am currently knitting a Swath Wrap and it is the most boring knitting, but I shall persevere. I've started darning on our hand-knit socks as well. I've decided that when I patch, I'm not going to try and hide it, I'm going to make it opposing color(s) so it's obvious. I think it's important to celebrate that a hand-knit is so loved that it needs repairs! :D
This is becoming a favorite podcast of mine! Thank you! I don’t do much for New Years resolutions but have set a goal to knit mittens well. For some reason. Those have been a real challenge for me! I a, currently working on a pair that is finally going well after frogging one mitten and starting over. I so enjoyed meeting Adachi! I am so glad she joined you! Also I’m curious about your t-shirt? Would you share some info about it please. Thanks and peace to you and your family!
My Tshirt is from neighborhoodco(dot)com. They have this image on tote bags as well neighborhoodfiberco.com/collections/accessories/products/community-tote-bag
Good morning to you and your beautiful Adachi! I'm proud for you as to what a sweet young lady is; what lovely company she must be for you 💕 I'm currently working on a scarf _that my 43year old son asked for two years ago when my Mom passed. I think it was his way of getting me back to my place of joy and solace. However, I had trouble picking up my needles again as I had a project with me as I sat with Mom during her last night with us. Sad it's taken me this long to pickup my son's scarf. Long story short, you recommended in one of your podcasts a cream that you use to keep your hands/fingers moisturized; may I have the name of what you use & where to find it please? Thank you for being you and sharing ❣️
You’re so welcome. I really love the lotion baaah from middle brook fiberworks and the hand cream from olive knits. I am so glad you’ve found your way back to making!
Your Emalje looks quite lovely! Do you have any suggestions of how to do a circular sweater larger on the front than the back? Knitting is a slow process which is one of the things I love about it. They take time! I have a favourite pair of socks that I wanted to mend but I left it too long and there is just no way...the damage was too extensive, sad but laughing. Pops of pink are great. I've done that too. My "kids" are in their 40s but I still have moments like this with them. They are such a gift. HUgs
Such a total gift, Brenda. For sweaters in the round, you could consider casting in as recommended and doing some paired decreases either at the waist or mid back in the back pieces to decrease the stitch count gradually. You could also just decrease your total Stitch count so that the front and back are not exactly the same count. Based on your gauge and how many inches you’d like in the back piece, calculate the stitch count that will give you the right number of inches across the back section of the sweater.
@@heyBrownBerry Thanks Marce. That makes perfect sense! Tonight I'm just repairing dishcloths... making them a bit bigger with some of that scrubby yarn. It was my husband who made the request, laughing. After years of using yucky sponges, he's finally been converted to the concept of knitted/crocheted cloths. These I can do quickly!
Enjoyed your podcast and I felt like it spoke to me since I have a pair of socks that needs mending. I am trying to finish up larger projects that have been sitting on my needles for months and years before I start a new one. My biggest challenge is finding things to knit that I want to wear in Florida. The few months (weeks!) when it is cool goes by too fast. I see such great sweater patterns but then do not wear them often. Do you knit much with cotton or linen? It just doesn’t seem as enjoyable as working with wool.
I'm new to your channel and knitting. I want to try socks but I have NEVER heard of sock blanks. Could you explain it to me please. Thank you kindly in advance from Kansas.
Thanks for hanging out with us here. A sock blank is machine knitted fabric made from Fingering weight yarn. It is a flat panel that you unravel to get a continuous strand of yarn to knit from. The sock blank is often dyed or printed to make a fun design in the knitted item.
Your daughter is so lovely I can only imagine how proud of her you are. This was such a great episode thanks for sharing all your tips to us.
Beat wishes to you and thank you for this sweet comment. Thanks, too for supporting my pattern!

That is amazing, Kelly! Thank you for sharing that!
I looove that there’s a gifting list to keep it interesting!
Ooh, I loved watching this episode! You are such an amazing mom-daughter pair. Please do this again with your daughters. ❤️
Stay safe!!
I love knitting off of sock blanks. You never know how they will turn out and that adds to the fun!
Yes, that’s so true!
your daughter is a beautiful creature...just like her mom. lovely video. thank you for sharing your personal time together!
☺️☺️☺️ We thank you
Thank you for the gift of your podcast, so lovely to meet your daughter.
Ooo, I really want you to get some!! 🤎😆
You are so right when your young adults spend time with you. 💛🖤💛 Loved this episode
🤎🤗 thanks for stopping in
I loved getting to see you and your daughter enjoying each other. Janet
You made big progress on your sweater since the last podcast.
🤎🤎
loved seeing you two. I admire Sarah's work, so it will be fun to see the new test knit as you go. Loved Adachi's project photos. Hope you enjoyed the awesome fire and time to chill with each other--it's been my favorite thing about break with Z: he's home and there is TIME for random conversations and just being together :)
Yes yes yes. Exactly that. I know you totally get all the soulful elements of all of this.
So cool that you’re coloring to unwind! I an reminded how our making can keep in the goodness of time together.
Thank you and what a really cool gift!!
Thanks for the recommendation!
I love every bit of this comment 🤎
Podcast Day is such a joy, and it was so lovely to meet your Oldest 💗
My plan for this year is to complete the Weaving courses at The School of Sweet Georgia.
Ooo, so awesome you’re going into this learning season, Jess, and l hope to join you in that craft before too long.
Love right back to you and her 😘🤎🤗
Yes,I chose the best segment to get back watching your podcast again. Hello Addaci, she's grown up so lovely. 👋I don't have children, but it's so lovely the respore you have with them. I too have been watching the Canadian bake off, because not
having cable I couldn't get find the recent UK one. I don't know how those home bakers do it;they have so many exotic recipes to create. I would never survive the show🍰⏳😧
I've enjoyed the Great Kiwi baking show as well as the Canadian one, and of course the British one.
So great to have these other things in common with fiber friends 🙂
We made cinnamon rope from one of the recipes shared on the Bake Off site and it took 3 of us to pull it off well 😆
@@heyBrownBerry Wow, you're something else🤗
Thanks for this beautiful episode! I love that you are mending. I set the intention to do more mending this year, and today I mended the holes in the pockets of a pair of jeans.
Yes!!! Good on you
As you know, I always have several projects on rotation! Take care! ~Stephanie
I do know and feel lucky for how you share them with us. Such great picks in that WIP list, too (patterns and designers)
Beautiful mom- daughter time together! Great speakers they are really picking up the buzzing bug sounds! LOL
Ha! I heard that too in editing!
I love chatting with you and it was extra special with your daughter!!
Love this! My shy oldest daughter left the Midwest in 2014 for a new life in FL at UT. This was THE BEST decision for her as she blossomed quite a bit during her time there. The graduated Dec. 2018 from their business school. It’s a beautiful campus. Best of luck & Enjoy!
We love the campus, and both our kids love going to school there.
What a darling daughter! So blessed. 🙏🏻
I can’t express how much I love watching you. I’m not envious of the flies!! Summer will be here soon enough.
My goal is a pair of socks per month. Before summer arrives I hope to complete two sweaters. Anything else will be a bonus!!!
This seems reasonable for goals so I’m sending encouragement! We get a lot of wonderful sun, but the bugs balance it out 😆
Hi Marce, I must admit it is a bit unusual to see someone in shorts and tee/tank tops in December.
Oh -I forgot about that beautiful sock blank and how cool it looked knit up into a sock- that looks fascinating! 💜
You are both so charming. I hope we get a few more mama/daughter podcasts. I think a pair of striped socks to use up some minis will be my next project after I finish my current cowl.
Thanks, Barb. Happy sock knitting!
What a lovely episode. It was so lovely to spend time with you both
Thanks, Ange!! I have been loving your 12 cast on videos!
Love love love these reflections, Marnie. Please always feel free to share them with me, here or in the other places we’re connected.
hi Marce and Adachi! I love the sweater you're knitting. Anne's yarn looks so lovely!!
Hi lovely! Waving at you and sending you some fireside warmth from here.
Hi, Diana! I hope your time with your son was great while he was home 🤎 Thanks fir joining us here.
Hello lovely friend! Loved the catch up. Sending you love and hugs from Wales, and here's to a happy and peaceful 2022 for you and your gorgeous family xx
Receiving and reciprocating those my dearest! Hope to see you at a special event in April 😉😉 Loved your stash Review episode!
So great to be able to move through different Making methods!
Good Morning, Marce. Happy New Year! It’s good to see Adachi again. All your WIPs are all looking good.
Thank you, Carol. Hope things have started well for you so far!
Big Mama hugs for you, Zoe. I predict you’ll get to that Sweater goal when its time comes.
Yes yes yes - big fan of that pattern AND yarn. Hope you’ll love it all.
How fun to have you both start off my year!
Waving to you (and sharing warm sunshine), Ramona! 😘
It’s so cute to see you mothering on Adachi. ♥️
I’ve heard the term sock blank, but have not seen one used before. Thanks for sharing.
It is one of my favorite things to do ☺️☺️ You’re very welcome !
My daughter and I love the British back off show .
Such fun, right??
Patterned socks are new to me - Some hand wash sock yarn I have will be Hermoines every day socks. Thankyou Marse
Lovely to see you both together! Happy 2022 to you & your family, and I hope you didn’t get any bug bites 🦟
We narrowly escaped the biting ones 😆😆
Happy New Year to you and yours,
Marce. 🥳🥳🥳
Catherine this is so awesome!!! Proud of you for that push through. Welcome to sock knitting 🤎
I love your relationship you both have with one another. My children and I have a similar relationship and I love that.
My new year’s project is a hat for my daughter and my grandson. Never done one so that is a fun new try. My wish for you is for a delightful and successful new year.
Enjoy that, Meg! Wishing the very same for you!!
Lovely chat! My mother only ever knit one thing back in the nineties and it was a full stranded sweater for my dad (with an argyle pattern.) But when she saw my sewing machine in 2019 she decided she wanted one too and now she's been taking sewing classes and we're bonding over crafts. I got her her first garment sewing patterns for Xmas and I think I'll go over to my parents house I'm the spring and we can do them together ☺️
My plan for 2022 is to craft outfits.
I am working on the safe at home blanket pattern but I am using up my cotton stash and making dishcloths while learning a new skill I am also working on the getting warmer cowl that Earthtones girl made and finally some honey mitts three projects are my happy place each giving me a different experience a new skill mindless knitting and a gift or charity knit that's what I'm up to
I really enjoy when you are outside it reminds of Jamaica especially when you are burning bush I can see now why a lot of Jamaicans live in Florida I know the whole state is different but I guess it's the closest to home keep up the great work looking forward to seeing what you get up to this and coming years
Thank you so much for being here. I loved reading about your projects and your plans. We love being outside, too. Adachi especially enjoys time outdoors and I love having their company, so that works out. I love your 22s for 2022!
Good to see you both!
Hi, Kim!! Thank you, lovely.
I know those handknit socks will be loved! Great idea with the sock reinforcement, too
What a joy! You two are lovely! I love the idea of mending socks. I'm working on socks (!) and on a very long term project: an advent calendar of mini pullovers (by Arne and Carlos) so I can make them with no pressure!!!
Ooo that sounds like a really fun long-term project. I enjoyed watching them open the gifts inside them this year.
I hope you’ll enjoy each project in its time. Thanks for visiting with us!
You can get through it Jennifer! Thanks for being here.
I have a pile of socks that need mending and my attempts in the past haven't been successful, probably because I didn't take care and take time. You've inspired me to accept that I need to slow down. Thanks!
You’re so welcome! Do any of them have parts that can be cut out and replaced? Sometimes it’s easiest to cut out and re-knit a heel or toe.
@@heyBrownBerry Good idea!
[Random digression alert ... the care with which gave your repair reminded me Kintsugi - well that is, if you where to use gold yarn in place of the pink. ;)]
Enjoyable épisode and glad to have discovered your inspiring and interesting channel!
@@josephzachry9707 Totally agree!
Hello from St. Louis Missouri! Happy New Year! I am working on a new pair of socks, and knitting the “ Love Note” and a cardigan. I try to knit each day.
I hope the beginning of the year has been great for you Janet, thanks for being here.
Smoke always travels to beauty!
Well thank you Bonnie
Adachi is definitely knitworthy! So cool that they joined in on your podcast! In 2022, I want to try intarsia, though I don’t have a pattern in mind. I also just inquired about a test knit…not sure if I’ll get selected, but that would be a first.
Great that you’re branching out! If you find @withcherriesontoptoo on Instagram, Sylvia has great intarsia patterns and has taught classes as well.
I have 2 daughter and I can only hope to have such a great relationship as you have with your girls.
I just started knitting socks and it's the best thing!
So glad to hear you're enjoying sock knitting.
☺️ it’s the best we can do for now! Hahaha
This is such a kindness to yourself and baby! 🤎🤎
I had good intentions of finishing languishing WIP's, but have already gotten distracted by a KAL I'm going to join. It's with Moonstruck knits, and then back to my wips 😂. And maybe some new designs for 2022.
Hahaa! That feel of a KAL is so alluring!
Y’all are magic 💜
Oh my, thanks Mel! 🥰🤎
happy new year! i love that you recorded this together, i'm never podcasting with my mom lmao
😆😆
I am currently knitting a Swath Wrap and it is the most boring knitting, but I shall persevere. I've started darning on our hand-knit socks as well. I've decided that when I patch, I'm not going to try and hide it, I'm going to make it opposing color(s) so it's obvious. I think it's important to celebrate that a hand-knit is so loved that it needs repairs! :D
Yes indeed, Laura! Love that approach. Here’s to some light at the end of that slog.
I started Stephen West’s Hiberknitalong 2021 - the Spiraling Cables Triangle version!
Nice cable sweater developing.
Thank you, Connie
I have two sock blanks but have not knit with them yet, I think I will try it.
Let me know what you think!
Happy new year from edinburgh
Headley New Year!!
hello from chilly Saskatchewan Canada , doing some spinning today
Sending warmth your way
I knit a beautiful pair of socks from one of Maria's sock blanks. Would love to do. @another
They are like a double treat - triple if you count wearing them 😁
I love to make sucks but I just can’t get that hill right I have problems with the hill but I’m gonna keep practicing
Definitely keep practicing! There are some great resources out there including UA-cam tutorials if that is how you like to learn.
Happy New Year! Does Adachi have a UA-cam channel?
Happy New Year - no but Adachi is on Instagram as adachi_selas
