From the BBC's "Pebble Mill" programme, I think some time in the 1980s or early 1990s(?) - I'm really not certain.
I think I originally got this from UA-cam, maybe via a reference from this blog: bristle.wordpress.com/2007/09/... though I'm really not sure. The original clip - • Video - has since been removed (account closed).
Hey, BBC/UA-cam - don't close me down, just block or take this down if there's a copyright infringement issue. But I'd urge you to think on this first: this is comedy gold! Ted Chippington singing on Pebble Mill and then being interviewed by Paul Coia wearing a neck brace, in what can only be described as a passively-aggressive manner.
Coia opens his interview with "Ted, you'll be pleased to know you've scored the highest rating ever on the naff-o-meter..." and closes it: "... I suppose when you're a cult, you're beyond reproach."
Surreality this good is hard to find.

I heard that Ted quit show business shortly after this because he'd achieved his number one ambition of appearing on Pebble Mill at One.
Ted Chippington for Eurovision
It's quite a talent to be able to make an entire audience laugh and for not one of them to realise that you're funny. Ninja comedy.
+Thisnameistaken11 it's comedy for Pavlov's dogs
Paul Coia in the neck brace. Previously on pebble mill, they booked The Fall and dancer Michael Clark. Six members of the audience had heart attacks at the bare arses
Love Ted. There's a great interview with Stewart Lee where he's asked where it all started and he said he used to just get up on stage for no particular reason!
I saw this at the time, it left an indelible mark. Love him.
Me & me mate nicked off school to his house to watch this. Ted drove up to Preston to do a gig that night with Bog-Shed at the legendary Carribean Club, we were there! 1986.
"I suppose when you're a cult, you're beyond reproach." Says the cult in the neck brace.
Lol trolling before trolling was a thing 😂 👏
Changed how I write comedy forever love you. Ted
His tea joke still makes me laugh
This guy is funny . 😂
Its like if frank side bottom and stewart lee were smashed together in a particle accelerator.
Love this version so much i bought it all those years ago on 45, might dig it out
I bought the 45 also, Rocking with Rita on side b...but I stupidly sold my modest collection of 45"s at a local record fair for peanuts. The worse thing I ever did 😪
Love this clip. From the naff comment to Ted saying his mate was watching EastEnders. Why aren't there more little appearances from Ted? It would've been great to see Des and Mel have to interview him. Richard and Judy should've had him on This Morning. Glad Ted is still going strong
Just fantastic - so funny.
I've been trying to remember Ted Chippington for ages.
Used to hear John Peel playing his stuff and thought it was fantastically funny and silly.
In my memory I thought it was Frank Sidebottom for ages and was baffled there was no mention of this stuff in the book/ film Frank!
I'm so pleased I've found this and have been reminded of Chippington.
I've got lots of stuff from him saved to watch!
My favourite bit of this is the "em" right at the end. 4:03. *Gold.*
Brilliant hahaha
That Dilemma joke is great. I laughed.
Ultimate dead pan 😀
Lmfao, so funny to see Ted mocking them and they don't even get it.
Stewart Lee in a Rockers outfit looks quite good.
True Greatness.
Nobody apriceated this guy but he's hilarious 🤣
Genius
Single came out in '86 and the original run of Pebble Mill ended the same year, so that must be a safe bet for the date.
There was a single released? Oh! I had no idea!
Ted the ted 😀
tsss tsss dis guys fukin great tsss
Brian Eno's really let himself go.
Dadaism
i think hes great
I miss stuff like this l remember that than that used to fart talcum powder into the air were has it all gone 😥😥😥😥
I can't decide whether this or Paul Shane's performance ("BABY BABEH!") are the most painful moments on Pebble Mill at One.
The difference is that this is absolute calculated genius whereas Paul Shane was dreadful.
@@johngibson1850 Of course, but this is still extremely uncomfortable.
that neck injury is well deserved by the presenter there
From sucking a lot of bbc middle management Hahahahahahahahah HAAAHAA
Ted is clearly a genius and funny, but misunderstood
How does he stay straight faced singing that song?
Professional.
Was Paul Coia a cult ? They could be the next Arthur Askey and Charlie Drake. ( sorry about the spelling mistake )
Of course there's a plant in the audience; it's there in the bottom left of the screen.
Worthy of Ted
Wassat?

" .... No."
Dadaism bookended by a neck -brace and a knackered cheese-plant 👍
Ahead of his time, it appears.
So mundane and clueless.
*Gotta love Anti-Comedy*
It's the best.
