Whaaaaat....five years already? Wooohoooo and well done! It really makes me grind my teeth thinking about the agravation of scripted online tech assistance. Its enough to turn anyone into a Victor! I've been getting a bit of a grump on too, being currently unable to get spring garden chores properly underway (foot in a brace, UGH!). So I was out there feeling sorry for myself when I found 6 valiant little coneflowers in a pile of compost where I'd emptied out old pots and trays of things I thought hadn't germinated last season. I was sooooo happy to find them and tucked them into pots for planting out in the white garden later. Funny how little things can give our spirits such a lift. A toast to your Year Six, a healed back, a humming new printer and a beautiful & bountiful summer! 🥂🌞🍅🥕🌺

Vivi that back injury is so frustrating - wanting to do things and not able to do is such a challenge- hope you heal well and get back to your regular self❤️I too am a nurse - retired oncology RN and know how important it is that we need to look after ourselves.❤️❤️ I just found the series with Victor Meldrew this past year and I loved it especially when I need an escape🥰
I adore Victor M. When they delivered hundreds of garden gnomes was my favorite. We just had an inch of snow here. It stayed all day on the lawns but melted on sidewalks and streets so I filmed it for a few seconds to show it off haha. One more night to 25F here then a slow warm-up. I have back pain most of the time, it does tire one out. Mostly I am content but some months are very challenging.
I remember the time when you first muted going on this journey... and here we are nearly 5 years on. Knew you would do it... The stresses are very different but the freedoms of self reliance are sure worth it. I used to work to an appointment diary and the clock..... First thing I did when I gave up work... Got rid of the watch.... same as yourself I rarely know what day it is.. although I keep a calendar on my phone for important dates. Everyone is entitled to an 'umpty' day... So infuriating buying stuff with technology. I'm with you buy from a shop when possible! Personally I keep one credit card, I use it specifically for the cover you get in this situation.... and pay it off in full.. With you on month 60.. will get the fizz cooled ready!
Not just in the UK, we here in Italy had very hot Feb and some of March and now it's freezing cold even hail today! And I do.like cold weather! I shouldn't have moved from the UK to Italy😳😕 as for prices going up, it's crazy here in Italy, and as I have no income, I might need to disconnect the electricity! But on the bright side, I got ten chickens today to start selling eggs soon, they're still young need a couple of months. They're lucky girls to come and live with me, treated like queens😁😚

Hi Vivi. I am glad to hear you are on the mend. I have been having an issue with my left shoulder and have been sleeping badly also. The muscles are just getting tighter and Tuesday I just couldn't take it anymore and went and had a deep tissue massage. Man that hurt but in the middle of the night after the massage I went to turn over and my shoulder popped. Oh my. The relief I felt was amazing. The muscles must have finally relaxed enough after the massage to let whatever was bound up , go back in place. I go Friday for another massage to help relax the muscles a little more. I can empathize with you over technology. I loath it. Me and my laptop have a love/hate relationship. It loves messing with me and I hate it. The girls in my office will recuse my computer when they hear me cursing at it. Can't wait to see what you see. I got my lavender pillows and book. Absolutely love them. Continue to pace yourself sweetie and you will get done what you need to.

Here in North Yorkshire we woke to quite a bit of snow today. Then the website of my utility company was down for hours but I finally logged my readings...phew! The rest of the day was fab 😁
I was just wondering if N. Yorks had snow......waiting for lovely pictures of the moors to appear from my Sister. I will do my meter readings in an hour or so......I wanted to leave it as late as possible.....but not so late the website goes down!
My hubby spent 19 years working for PC world/Currys! And he was the tech support! 2 years ago he changed jobs but he used to have certain customer's that would wait until he was in to sort them out! I have no clue with the computer so I'm so glad he does it for me!

We woke to a small amount of snow today, Lincoln, and had snow showers followed by sunshine throughout the day. This whole weather business is bonkers right now!! Oh I so know what you mean and how you feel about technology, I am exactly the same.
I'm in Montreal and my gas was 200.00 per month last year and it will be 300.00 a month in the coming year. That's 1200.00 more needed in the annual budget, sheesh.
Oh Vivi you've had a right old Victor time of it 😯 I have been suffering with a bad back, and when I phoned the doctor the 'I know everything receptionist ' got me a physio telephone appointment! In short the Pysio told me to do some exercises....over the phone.....told me I was doing them well and said to phone again if my back pain continued???? The phone call was not 'Facebook's so how could she tell??? Ahhhhh!!
I don't believe it! My partner still loves watching it now and then 😄. What a mad time. At least a good few ups... I've been caught out by the dreaded C for the second time and negected my tomatoe seedlings, they are so leggy! Can i safe them? My daughter safes me from my sad tech skills, i haven't much of a clue. Hope you get some gardentime soon, outside. Take care!
Ach, sorry to hear you got ill......so frustrating....I hope you're well on the mend now. With your tomatoes you could start some more off.....I haven't sown mine yet, there's still time. With the leggy ones you can rescue them by potting them on and planting them much deeper...ie; pretty much burying the whole stem......the little hairs on the stem will become roots.

Hi Vivi! I certainly empathize. I used to work as a tech writer, explaining to new techs how to do complicated procedures on telephone switches. I have worked with computers since the first personal computers were available. I am now retired. And still there are times when technology defeats me. I spent several hours offline this week , talking to techs because either my computer was doing weirdo things or because my telephone connection wasn't working. I find that the tech that answers the phone doesn't really know much, only has procedures he doesn't understand to do, and when it doesn't work, he assumes that it's the customer's fault. I immediately ask for their "second level" tech, who might actually know what he's doing. This was especially irritating, I because rude, and finally apologized, because I realized that I was overreacting because I was in pain (arthritis, wearing a Holter monitor that wasn't working right, etc) and couldn't be working in my garden when all my seedlings were needing to be transplanted. I am usually very even emotionally, but not right now. I do know that this will work out soon, and life will be sweet again. Thank Goodness!
Living with chronic pain is soooooo exhausting....and there are bound to be times when a combination of pain and exhaustion make us emotionally wobbly.....I experience that too but try to remind myself not to snap at other people. Take care lovely. x

Oh my goodness I feel your frustration, Im not good with technology in fact I would go as far as to say I have a phobia about it. Thing is its just about in everything involved in day to day living . Its such a pain, I think your doing great Vivi to remain as positive and upbeat as you are.

Oh my word... the secretary, yes, seen both sides of that equation at the hospital and then the printer fiasco would have lit me up like a firecracker!! Goodness... but I do try to stay calm cool and collected, but it can be SOOO very hard. And why? What is the point of it all? To exert control over you and prove, what? That they are shallow ridiculous people to derive their pleasure from essentially harming others? Uff... I FEEL for you!!! But hoping it all works out. Printers and such... it makes me laugh. Technology was supposed to make our lives easier, but honestly, in many ways, I think it has not. However, that said, I am so grateful that I can maintain daily easy contact with my family on the other side of the globe. So... trade offs? Ok, off to enjoy the day! Am finally fully vaccinated, so off for a girl day with a friend and her daughters. I had a question about how you grow your chickpeas. I wanted to know do you soak them in water before you plant them in the garden? Or, in pots to transfer later? I recently had the experience of sampling green chickpeas, and oh my delicious. I found them at my local Mexican market. I want to try to grow them. We'll see what happens. Thank you, Jenn.
Oh the green ones are SO good aren't they! I've tried soaking and not soaking and it didn't seem to make any difference so I just put them staright in the ground dry now as it's less fiddly.

That's interesting, re: the pay pal and the printer. I know the place I work, we treat pay pal the same as cash or debit for refunds/exchanges. What a pain.
I suffer from chronic pain along with disc problems. I find Weleda's Arnica Massage Balm, they also have an Arnica Bath Soak, really helpful. I use them in addition to a few other things I cycle through such as heat patches and a TENS machine as well as meds Up here in Derby we had a week or so of very unusually warm weather, then back to more normal Spring weather of cold, wind, hail and snow, interspersed with bright sunshine. It was very cold indeed yesterday. In some ways I prefer the cold as at least it's normal for the time of year. Re liking the cold. I dislike Summer intensely as I always feel awful. Winter's my favourite season. Re energy price increases Everyone in band A to D of Council Tax should be getting a payment of £150 soon. If you pay by direct debit it will come automatically, but for anyone else they may need to get in touch with their local authority. I think I'm going to use some of it to change my lightbulbs to LED as they're cheaper to run. I also might buy a good quality thermos flask so I can save any dregs of hot water from the kettle to use later. Re your vitamin D, if they're treating it properly in line with NHS guidance with very high doses, shouldn't take long for you to feel better. You should start to feel the difference within about 2 weeks even if the treatment is longer. I was underdosed and given incorrect treatment for severe vitamin D deficiency by rheumatology once. They did exactly what they shouldn't and prescribed me Calcichew. Not only should they not have been giving me calcium, the vit d dose in 2 Calcichew is never enough to treat deficiency as it only has 400iu. I really hope you feel better soon. A painful back is really debilitating. I do almost everything online due to disability. It's a boon for me as I mostly can't physically manage getting to shops.
Oh that's a dreadful error with the calcichew! I need regular bloods to monitor not only the vit D but also my calcium as I am on the cusp of hypercalcemia. Oh I love the idea of the arnica bath soak....I have a Weleda stockist very close by so I'll check to see if they have it. Thank you lovely.

Wouldn't you know I twisted my back picking up my grandbaby this week! Oh the week you have had...I do not envy you. My husband is in house tech support. When he can't figure it out, I do the rounds of phone consults and usually find nothing. Well done on 5 years being wage free. I am still reducing expenses. I want to be wage free, but until my debt is paid, that will be functionally impossible. So paying down the debt is goal number one.
Good on you lovely for working on paying down the debt...paying off my mortgage was one of the most liberating things I've ever done and enabled me to live the way I do now. Argh, sorry to hear you tweaked your back too....I hope it settles pronto!

I would call them and tell them about your plight. That you took the bus there and the product was faulty. See if they will just send you another. I've done that before. I was willing to pay for another but they just sent me one. I would at least try.
Oh the curse of technology. It's fine when it works but when it goes wrong or is playing up and that includes the internet i get so stressed. Open a case with PayPal if you have no joy as they sold you good not fit for purpose, I’ve done this a few times . It’s taken a while to sort out but I’ve always had a full refund

Sadly I don’t remember the names of the characters but wonderful in their frustrations. Your frustration with technology I well understand and I was rather good with it. I worked on computers at work and at home. Of course I had a husband and son who I could get help from. Alas not so anymore. My biggest frustration with my laser printer (yes, I do my own printing and at the time was money saving). Given that I replaced it last June/July 2021 for $365 I believe the blank cartridge needed to be replaced. I don’t run a business. I don’t print nearly as much as I used to and I can’t work the hacks to make it run until the cartridge is empty. (The joys of menopause which helps to make anger/frustration levels go from 0 to 60 in 1 second.) The thing that bugs me the most is that to buy all the cartridges, 4 colours and the black one, today is $615. To buy the printer it’s $324. (Which has a lesser page print amount as standard which comes with it.) It’s something I didn’t have to think about before. It was naturally cheaper before the makers got greedy. I was buying a new printer maybe every 10 years. But now… the printers aren’t meant to last that long, what is. Sad thing is it’s a great printer otherwise. You have snow! Wow. I do miss seasons. Not that I saw snow. It’s too tropical for me here. Rain and floods. Everything is saturated even with a week or two where it seemed to have stopped raining. So grateful for where I live. Some didn’t recover from the first lot of floods. I trust your back is behaving. Health is so precious isn’t it. 🙏🏼❤️💐

If somebody is mean and nasty to me I ask him in a very sympathetic way if they are having a bad day? That kind of throws them for a loop sometimes they are having a bad day sometimes they’re just nasty.

Ach, sorry to hear you got ill......so frustrating....I hope you're well on the mend now. With your tomatoes you could start some more off.....I haven't sown mine yet, there's still time. With the leggy ones you can rescue them by potting them on and planting them much deeper...ie; pretty much burying the whole stem......the little hairs on the stem will become roots.

Hi Vivi! I certainly empathize. I used to work as a tech writer, explaining to new techs how to do complicated procedures on telephone switches. I have worked with computers since the first personal computers were available. I am now retired. And still there are times when technology defeats me. I spent several hours offline this week , talking to techs because either my computer was doing weirdo things or because my telephone connection wasn't working. I find that the tech that answers the phone doesn't really know much, only has procedures he doesn't understand to do, and when it doesn't work, he assumes that it's the customer's fault. I immediately ask for their "second level" tech, who might actually know what he's doing. This was especially irritating, I because rude, and finally apologized, because I realized that I was overreacting because I was in pain (arthritis, wearing a Holter monitor that wasn't working right, etc) and couldn't be working in my garden when all my seedlings were needing to be transplanted. I am usually very even emotionally, but not right now. I do know that this will work out soon, and life will be sweet again. Thank Goodness!
Living with chronic pain is soooooo exhausting....and there are bound to be times when a combination of pain and exhaustion make us emotionally wobbly.....I experience that too but try to remind myself not to snap at other people. Take care lovely. x

Oh my word... the secretary, yes, seen both sides of that equation at the hospital and then the printer fiasco would have lit me up like a firecracker!! Goodness... but I do try to stay calm cool and collected, but it can be SOOO very hard. And why? What is the point of it all? To exert control over you and prove, what? That they are shallow ridiculous people to derive their pleasure from essentially harming others? Uff... I FEEL for you!!! But hoping it all works out. Printers and such... it makes me laugh. Technology was supposed to make our lives easier, but honestly, in many ways, I think it has not. However, that said, I am so grateful that I can maintain daily easy contact with my family on the other side of the globe. So... trade offs? Ok, off to enjoy the day! Am finally fully vaccinated, so off for a girl day with a friend and her daughters. I am so grateful for technology too...for staying in touch with friends all over the world...and for allowing me to have a business from home but....argh....when it goes wrong it's so utterly infuriating and I never have a clue how to fix it! 😉

I had a question about how you grow your chickpeas. I wanted to know do you soak them in water before you plant them in the garden? Or, in pots to transfer later?

Oh the green ones are SO good aren't they! I've tried soaking and not soaking and it didn't seem to make any difference so I just put them staright in the ground dry now as it's less fiddly.

one thing I found out regarding the cardboard plant pots they require twice the amount of water otherwise they wick away water from the soil.
Exactly......I think the wicking is the biggest problem. Ach, disappointing.

I suffer from chronic pain along with disc problems. I find Weleda's Arnica Massage Balm, they also have an Arnica Bath Soak, really helpful. I use them in addition to a few other things I cycle through such as heat patches and a TENS machine as well as meds
Up here in Derby we had a week or so of very unusually warm weather, then back to more normal Spring weather of cold, wind, hail and snow, interspersed with bright sunshine. It was very cold indeed yesterday. In some ways I prefer the cold as at least it's normal for the time of year.
Re liking the cold. I dislike Summer intensely as I always feel awful. Winter's my favourite season.
Re energy price increases Everyone in band A to D of Council Tax should be getting a payment of £150 soon. If you pay by direct debit it will come automatically, but for anyone else they may need to get in touch with their local authority. I think I'm going to use some of it to change my lightbulbs to LED as they're cheaper to run. I also might buy a good quality thermos flask so I can save any dregs of hot water from the kettle to use later.
Re your vitamin D, if they're treating it properly in line with NHS guidance with very high doses, shouldn't take long for you to feel better. You should start to feel the difference within about 2 weeks even if the treatment is longer. I was underdosed and given incorrect treatment for severe vitamin D deficiency by rheumatology once. They did exactly what they shouldn't and prescribed me Calcichew. Not only should they not have been giving me calcium, the vit d dose in 2 Calcichew is never enough to treat deficiency as it only has 400iu.
I really hope you feel better soon. A painful back is really debilitating.
I do almost everything online due to disability. It's a boon for me as I mostly can't physically manage getting to shops.
Oh that's a dreadful error with the calcichew! I need regular bloods to monitor not only the vit D but also my calcium as I am on the cusp of hypercalcemia. Oh I love the idea of the arnica bath soak....I have a Weleda stockist very close by so I'll check to see if they have it. Thank you lovely.

Wouldn't you know I twisted my back picking up my grandbaby this week! Oh the week you have had...I do not envy you. My husband is in house tech support. When he can't figure it out, I do the rounds of phone consults and usually find nothing. Well done on 5 years being wage free. I am still reducing expenses. I want to be wage free, but until my debt is paid, that will be functionally impossible. So paying down the debt is goal number one.
Good on you lovely for working on paying down the debt...paying off my mortgage was one of the most liberating things I've ever done and enabled me to live the way I do now. Argh, sorry to hear you tweaked your back too....I hope it settles pronto!

I would call them and tell them about your plight. That you took the bus there and the product was faulty. See if they will just send you another. I've done that before. I was willing to pay for another but they just sent me one. I would at least try.
Fortunately they swapped it and it was all done by courier so I didn't need to travel again. Phew!
Oh the curse of technology. It's fine when it works but when it goes wrong or is playing up and that includes the internet i get so stressed. Thank goodness for my mugs of tea and a walk around my garden as that allows me to calm down before returning to the problem. Good luck with sorting out your printer.

Open a case with PayPal if you have no joy as they sold you good not fit for purpose, I’ve done this a few times . It’s taken a while to sort out but I’ve always had a full refund

Your frustration with technology I well understand and I was rather good with it. I worked on computers at work and at home. Of course I had a husband and son who I could get help from. Alas not so anymore. My biggest frustration with my laser printer (yes, I do my own printing and at the time was money saving). Given that I replaced it last June/July 2021 for $365 I believe the blank cartridge needed to be replaced. I don’t run a business. I don’t print nearly as much as I used to and I can’t work the hacks to make it run until the cartridge is empty. (The joys of menopause which helps to make anger/frustration levels go from 0 to 60 in 1 second.) The thing that bugs me the most is that to buy all the cartridges, 4 colours and the black one, today is $615. To buy the printer it’s $324. (Which has a lesser page print amount as standard which comes with it.)
It’s something I didn’t have to think about before. It was naturally cheaper before the makers got greedy. I was buying a new printer maybe every 10 years. But now… the printers aren’t meant to last that long, what is. Sad thing is it’s a great printer otherwise.
You have snow! Wow. I do miss seasons. Not that I saw snow. It’s too tropical for me here. Rain and floods. Everything is saturated even with a week or two where it seemed to have stopped raining. So grateful for where I live. Some didn’t recover from the first lot of floods.

If somebody is mean and nasty to me I ask him in a very sympathetic way if they are having a bad day? That kind of throws them for a loop sometimes they are having a bad day sometimes they’re just nasty.
That's an excellent response......and if they ARE having a bad day it gives you a chance to be a human and show them some compassion......which could make their day better. 💖
