Those of us who were lucky enough to know your father were greatly touched by your writing about him. I cried non stop after the first paragraph. Your Dad is beaming with pride as his son continues his Legacy through his writing.
Thank you thank you thank you. The Spong legacy continues.

Magnificent! Truly transcendent! Thanks for your courageous vulnerability in first writing this incredible piece, then your transparent, brave act of reading it for us. Your dad’s message demands to live on. You’re a wonderful legacy for him. More power to you! Godspeed!

I randomly came upon this story over a year ago (now a proud Texas Monthly subscriber), and while reading it on a plane ride, was moved to tears. It’s a story that has stayed with me, that I have shared with many. Thank you for sharing your father’s beautiful life with us.

John, you were a bully at Westlake high school. As one of your targets, i will never forget how you made me feel. I have hope that you have changed. Your surface personae suggests you have. I wish you well, but I also wish you will remember how you belittled people and made them feel small. I hope you taught your kids to be kind, especially to women.

God doesn't exist. I am atheist.
