    I chuckled at how you resisted using the provided wires with the correctly sized spade connectors. Thanks for a great video. I am trouble shooting a no spark condition and hope to use your methods to get the heater back in service.

    You got it working again, good job! What a nice price savings!
    Tip Sensor or Tilt Switch - sometimes the contacts are dirty so an alcohol clean is good.
    The Tilt switch costs $8 on Amazon and if you buy the kit with the Thermocouple as well, it runs $10 - $13.

    The thermocouple when heated by the pilot lite makes power and holds the spring loaded gas valve open as long as the pilot flame is on .Tipping the heater and the safety switch brakes the circuit and the valve shuts of .

    Great information my heaters problem is that the flame doesn't go more then like 5 inches.

      @@fixingthings I am sorry for that (my user name). Long story short. My buddy Rich started a UA-cam channel years ago and at the same time I couldn’t think of a UA-cam name for myself that nobody else had so I made this one up. I hoped but never thought he’d get as big as he did. At this point I’d hate to change it now or even know if I can.
      But I want to thank you for this informative video. The 4 free ones I just got don’t work so as soon as this heat and humidity calms down here on the northeast coast I’m going try what you advised in your video. The sucky part is one of the four has a broken glass shaft. That’s gonna be $100’s. I’ll keep you updated on my repair results if you like. Thank George.

      Well, clearly it was your username that gave Rich his following! But, tell him some random guy on the internet says hi. But keep me posted on how the fixes on yours go. And in regards to the glass tubes, yeah, when I first got this thing I was looking it up to see how much it was new and was like "oh 100 bucks, not too bad" and then I realized that was just a replacement glass tube!

    Very interesting video- I followed instructions- disconnected the dump switch - taped the two wires together- to see if my dump switch was the problem- turn on gas - Pilot went on but once I released the dial the pilot died - so not sure what the problem is? Any solutions?

    I have a patio heater very similar to this one. It generates a ton of soot that gets all over everything. The tubes turn black along with the cap. The soot gets all over everything and is difficult to clean. Do you have any idea what the problem may be? Is this normal for a propane heater?

    • @tedvictor4918
      @tedvictor4918 2 роки тому

      you have a gas air mix problem .check the burner for contamination and clean it or replace it .lack of air may be a spider or wasp nest blocking the air so be careful wen cleaning the unit below the glass tube

    I do have a question: what if there is no gas? After the first step. Lighter works (spark) bite no flame. Gas tank is full. How to diagnostic?

    • @fixingthings
      @fixingthings 2 роки тому +4

      So a few things to try.
      1. The obvious but sometimes overlooked, did you remember to open the propane tank?
      2. Check to see if there is anything "blocking" the gas outlet near the top (spiderwebs, etc.)
      3. Check the gas hose, can you see any cracks or hear any hisses?
      4. This piece of advice I got after getting a new "head" to an old tank that came with a new hose and regulator when I could not get gas to flow through the brand new unit and called the company. Guy literally tells me "ok, first, unhook the gas line from the propane tank and give the silver regulator about 10 good taps against the side of the tank. Hook it back up and give it a try" and wouldn't you know it, worked like a charm. Apparently those regulators are known to "freeze" into place occasionally and a few taps frees them up.
      Let me know if any of that helps.
