Wagyu beef has four types of breed in Japan. Japanese black (Tajima strain of beef in Hyogo which is the Kobe beef) Japanese brown, Japanese shorthorn and Japanese polled. There is grading of Wagyu and the highest is A5 with Beef marble score (BMS) of 8-12. Kobe beef is one considered to be few breed of wagyu. Only 3000 to 4000 certified as authentic Kobe cattle and they are being raised in a tight living quarters, given beer to induce their appetite and massage daily or sometimes given sake as substitute to exercise since their activities are limited which made these cattle very expensive for being pampered and only few of them raised the authentic Kobe cattle ( 200 to 300 ranchers). Kobe beef has grading like A, B, C and BMS wherein A is the highest but still graded (1-5) as A5 is the highest and the most expensive because the BMS is 8-12.
