Agreed. I’m a recruiter and I look at every single application that is submitted. The only ones that don’t make it to me are ones where people answer “no” to qualifying questions, but they’re for legal requirements, like licenses to do certain work, etc. AI is not helping my job in my opinion. A human can better judge an application than AI. The human brain cannot ever be replaced.

I had an interview with a company in August 2023 that lasted 2.5 hours. The interview was with a team and lasted 2 hours, during which they took me on a tour of the production area. After the interview, I followed up with HR, but they never responded to me. Later, I discovered that they had hired someone for an entry-level position without posting the job. This was disappointing and unprofessional behavior from HR. Candidates do not deserve to be ghosted and lied to, and HR should know how to improve themself better.

The hr person jumped and said interview questions are based on the star system. Whatever that is. Perhaps it’s because you sounded like you weren’t interested in staying at your next job for a long time, unless it was for a short time contract.
It costs a lot of money and lots of resources are involved to train new employees.Ppl who change jobs often are a big red flag for recruiters. They always try to avoid a high turn over.
I don’t know, maybe you didn’t sound as disinterested as you did in the answer wrote here, but you just didn’t sound very motivated.
They most likely want someone who’s truly invested in the company, not someone who will just go there to punch in and out doing the minimum.
Put yourself in the shoes of a business owner or a manager in gov. If they have the choice, they will choose someone who will sound like they are motivated try to make their company/department better in some ways and for a while over you.
I don’t know, you have probably have soooo much experience that would help a company, maybe you should have answered that question as if they asked you what you think you could bring to them, as in why you think you are great for that position and word it differently.

The job market is trash. I have a degree and many years of experience and can't even get interviews for things I am way over qualified for. I've had my resume and cover letter done and redone professionally multiple times. If you do manage to get an interview the majority of the time you are ghosted even when interviews go well and you are given promised follow up dates/timelines. I've invested so many hours of energy and time with no results and now I give up. I'm planning to retire early and move to a cheap state or another country to get out of this rat race. The answer now a days seems to be an entrepreneur or start your own small business.

I'm old enough to remember life before ATS and all this gate keeping non sense that started with the Great Recession and has only become worse since. I did all the right things in life. Worked hard, got good grades, went to college. All of this for nothing. Learn a trade or start your own business. We need to go back to the old ways where we worked directly with hiring managers and no online gatekeepers. With inflation and the high cost of everything it takes all you have just to survive day to day.

Trying to find people to network with in my industry in my location. If I knew people around here, then it would be a snap to find a job because we don't use all these fancy systems. We are behind times. but also, behind in job titles. I am a UX designer, and there are hardly any here.

I have had 5 different jobs in the last 10 years now so my resume fits better on 2 pages. Is a 2 pages resume acceptable, or will it be rejected if it's more than 1 page?

Most likely rejected because they only want your last 5 to 6 past jobs unless you worked their 10 years straight.

It's gotten to the point where one is better off ignoring most of these surprise recruiters that are increasingly asking for highly inappropriate personal info like the last 4 digits of your SSN - report those if you can.

This is ridiculous. I have 4 degrees that are flexible and that was planned on purpose, to remain competetive, and one degree in the wings, plus experience and all I could land between november to now was a 3 month temp gig scoring exams!!?? At twnety bucks an hour. Not ungreatful for the job, I'm just sharing the job market. Also I submit an application in the afternoon and get rejected by the AI by midnight? What!!?? This is a commercial and taking advantage of people.
