How come I've only seen this now???
The DR Big Band at its peak, in its heyday - conducted by a legend & inexhaustible inspiration. Pianist Ole Koch Hansen later spoke about how sad he was that, with a 21-piece orchestra performing, the small Club Montmartre stage could not accommodate a grand piano, so he had to play an electric substitute - but that’s the only drawback, I guess, about this wonderful concert. Thank you so much to Benny Rosenfeld for making it available to us!
PS: If you want better quality of sound, try purchasing the Storyville CD: “Thad Jones and the Danish Radio Big Band Live at the Montmartre: A Good Time Was Had by All” (not to be confused with the 6 CD box set with a similar name).
This is REAL! Bent Jaedig plays the real good notes. Thad plays even hipper notes. Thad is one of the hippest from Detroit. This band sounds great because they knew and could hear that they as musicians were receiving a gift. And Denmark supported this! Hatten Af!!
min. 37:00. Niels Pedersen on electric bass !!! Wow !!!
Beautiful, from minute 8 something about Gil Evans style seem to echo in the room.
Tip toe.. 14 min👍
