Smoking, contrary to the eating, is not a natural process for living beings. Any smoke is harmful and ONLY harmful. Nicotine is a poison, insecticide used in agriculture to kill vermins. Moreover, nicotine is highly addictive: more than the alcohol, close to the heroin type of addiction force. Tobacco contains many others harmful chemicals that get stuck in lungs
The US Surgeon General's publication number 1103 is a summary of several smoking and tobacco related studies. A few of the studies in there differentiated pipe smoking from cigarette smoking (they also looked at cigar smoking separately). All of the studies that looked at pipe smoking on its own found that pipe smoking did not result in a higher mortality rate. In fact, one study found that pipe smoking reduced the smoker's mortality rate.
Well that same study continued for years and the numbers changed. Reasonable pipe smoking wihtout inhaling (1-2 bowl a day) has an negligable effect on health. Same with cigars. It is even better if you smoke pipe outside and gargle with water after.
Where can I see these studies ? Every single one I can find says smoking in any kind of way is bad, but pipe and cigar smoking aren't as bad as cigarettes

Cigarettes also have additional chemical content to keep them burning and to enhance the nicotine high. Back in the 60’s favored the Players Old English Ovals cigarettes from the UK. Hi Jean. Well, I personally don't have that problem since healthcare is public and 100% free here, not a business, so I don't need to be afraid of private businesses ripping me off. I am personally in favor of health warnings because I see it as a right for the customer to know the risks that their choices entail so that he or she can make a free decision. Obviously health warnings do not force anyone to stop smoking, do they? I think the whole issue has more to do with the fact that, before health warnings became a thing, insurance companies in places where healthcare is not public were losing A LOT of money against people who claimed nobody warned them it was dangerous suing them. But also for countries with public healthcare system, the warnings can save a lot of money to the state. I always find it strange when you see these libertarian, anti-state types whining about how much they have to pay in taxes while at the same time complaining about the so-called 'nanny state' supposedly treating them like sheep. Well, without those health warnings they would have to pay a lot more. Of course there are so many factors involved, as you say as an specialist, but also we need to take into consideration that these warnings affect all tobacco products and I wouldn't say they are particularly targeted to the pipe or cigar smoker, but to the average cigarette smoker who is addicted to it. That's my point but I may be wrong. Sorry for the loooong comment, my princess. Cheers 😘
Hey Quaker, if I could add to your comment! I live in Canada, where health care is “free” as well. At least it’s perceived to be. The reality is that it’s not actually free, the cost is just distributed across the number of tax paying citizens, thereby actually limiting the medical resources offered. The supply in reality is limited to what the government dictates as adequate, not the best. Most people are going to be “relatively” healthy so there is a disproportionate number of people actually “paying” for the system. Instead of an individual paying for a visit to the doctor the government simply pays the doctors for every number of visits or procedures he as the doctor is able to push on the person. The sicker the better. I do agree that the warnings are there to keep more money in the pockets of governments. And it is absolutely absurd that they’re able to convince us to inadvertently let them keep more money in their pockets by not doing what we enjoy. Ie stopping smoking, even though WE’RE the ones paying for the medical care! They don’t label sugar or fatty or fast foods in the same way which kill WAY more people via cancers, diabetes heart diseases etc... makes you think!
