Not this Mater Dei! Mater Dei Catholic is pretty good too tho, they’ve won state two years in a row in a smaller classification I believe. Carlsbad looked really strong, they put it on them and Sayin looked as good as advertised. He had 3 TDs and like 225 total yrds.

In fact, every starter in offense and defense is born and raised within 50 miles of the school so whoever said they’re using out of state kids is on some bullshit. Second, the level of youth football play is just different i Cali. Teams like the OG Ducks, OC Buckeyes, Wilmington Pilots, these teams would crush whatever youth football team you’re repoing wherever you’re from. Cali ball is just different as hell. It’s probably because of the population, there’s a lot of people out here. But these are all kids from within 50 miles of mater dei campus (south central, Watts, Compton, Long Beach, Anaheim, Riverside)

I think MD is more talented than Bosco this year, but Bosco just played a better team in STA; they may be more battle tested. Every little thing matters when MD and SJB face off.

Is having too many good players on one team always a good thing? It is true that having a loaded roster lends itself to high competition during practice. However, during games, if a players doesn't have to do so much because someone else on the roster will do it, does this help the player improve and become better? Does not having to go through so much adversity during a season, lend itself to making players better? No doubt Mater Dei has some standout high school players, but for all of the players that go D! they- with a few exceptions- don't seem to do as well in college or as pros. Same goes for ST. John Bosco. Could be wrong.
