I just picked up a 12 rd. mag today and cleaned it inside and out. Great gun. I polished the black off the barrel hood and I have not had any rust issues at all . S Carolina.
I haven’t used it that much but I had that issue with the lcp2. I took it on a boat trip and immediately the slide rusted where it connects with the rear sights.

Painting the top of the hammer is a really good idea. I have a few Rugers that use this mechanism and I might do that to them.
The rim of the bullet takes the pin out

Update. The magazine is rusting at the base. The slide and other parts have not rusted yet.
