Everybody in the movie was born to play these roles. Francis Ford Coppola is a prime example of standing up for your artistic vision regardless of what Paramount felt about the movie.
I just can’t imagine Laurence Olivier as Don Vito. A great actor of course but I imagine him saying “ I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse, dear boy!”
onds ago I can't imagine the time, effort and research that would have been needed in the making of a quality video of this sort and not picking up on the proper pronunciation of "Lawrence Olivier" or "Warren Beatty" along the way.🤣
I can understand the studio not wanting to cast Brando; he was incredibly difficult to work with, as Coppola later learned while filming Apocalypse Now. That being said, I now want to visit the alternate universe in which George C. Scott plays Vito Corleone…
Took too long to get to get to the scene that saved The Godfather. If it wasn't for my adopted sister that I adopted I would have never seen this movie nor would have seen any of the mafia movies I fell in love with you movie ever since I've had several copies of The Godfather lost them all now have another set the complete set I bought Goodfellas on my Amazon Prime video and I have Casino on DVD so I've got on DVDs and Goodfellas on Amazon Prime
He's probably a younger guy, Anyone over 40 would have remembered Lawrence Olivier from watching his classic movies on late night TV growing up, which is where I remember seeing him.
And the studio suits can’t understand why creators are going independent. Serves them right. Same for car salesmen, attorneys, and the rest of the sleazy “professionals” slowly being eliminated
How would I trim the movie down? I would have the two assassins be successful in killing Vito, which then eliminates 90-95% of the rest of the movie. Barzini comes in and takes over the family, bada bing, bada boom. End of movie. Juuuuust kidding!
It is impossible for me to imagine James Caan (R.I.P.) as Michael Corleone and thank god we had the best version ever for The Godfather.

I would love to see the version that the studio would have preferred, probably completely generic and forgotten by this point.
Restaurant scene along with Michael's proposition to kill Sollozzo have always been my two favorite scenes in the movie.
“it’s not personal-it’s strictly business”
What I’ve always like about the restaurant scene is how Michael doesn’t “follow the script” laid out for him by Clemenza. He does the hit his own way.
@Robert Busek He screws it up a little bit, helps build the suspense and tension making the scene as magical as it is.
Al is 100% Italian and I don't think anyone else could have played Michael better than he did

Awesome video. Thanks for doing such a thorough analysis.
My pleasure!
Anthony Quinn might've been great. And Oliver was a master
I watched over and over indeed one or the greatest films of all time

Yes
Imagine Charles Bronson as Vito Corleone and Jack Nicholson as Michael Corleone...

This video lost me when it called Lawrence Olivier "Oliver".
Yep! I thought “ who’s he??”
He's probably a younger guy, Anyone over 40 would have remembered Lawrence Olivier from watching his classic movies on late night TV growing up, which is where I remember seeing him.
yeah from the Genco Oliver and Benji Company
@@DemeterTelphousia-Erinyes He also butchered Blythe Danner’s name!
4:30 phrasing

Ernest Borgnine as Vito Corleone? And THAT is why, you do not allow studio execs to make the movie folks!
💙
Yikes! Perhaps a parent or grandparent could have helped you with some of the names of the older actors. The phonetic approach isn't working.
as to budgets and hits they spend severl hundred million on the crap today

The first 2 minutes of this clip, we’re basic rehashes of stuff repeated… it has made me unsubscribe
