His monster ability: *Ohohohoho not so fast buddy, Immortality...take it or leave it*
well originally his desire was to be alive untill the movie of his favorite cartoon came out, to see it and then he would die.
so the curse originally made him like live in a world where he saw the movie but he caught on it was a trick and choosed the horrible reality rather then a great dream, which the curse used everytime something bad happend like someone close to him died to mock him and force him to transform.

In the comic, Hyun felt guilty about what happened to his family, and actually wanted them to feel proud of him.
The dream created by the curse saw him have to make a choice of either go to school, and receive the praise of his family which he wanted, or make a selfish decision to just skip class to go watch the finale of his favorite anime movie series, and he chose the latter, because he was already suspicious of that world, catching the curse by surprise and forcing it to show him exactly what he taught it would be, since it had no idea of how it would actually end, which made him sure of the ilusion.

The slime monsters backstory is kinda sad, they where a child who was playing hide and seek with their mother, when their mother was then killed by the hearing/goblin monster and then their desire was to not be seen by monsters

In the web comic, every monster turned back into a human after enough time, because when you're a monster, the being that tries to turn you, which is actually your soul, feeds you fantasies based off your desires. once all of your desires are sated, you turn into the human cocoon and then later hatch as a "new" breed of human with almost no emotions.
It seems that you can gain some of it back as well as seen in the last few panels

just stood there and watched as those two other guys used that flamethrower to burn the slime monster, after being told that the slime monster saved the kid to! They should have saved the poor thing. That scene pissed me off.

Personally, I'd think we're fucked in this scenario, because there will be people who want to be a god (hyper narcissism), and if they get cursed? Well who fucking knows what'll happen.

In the webtoon, there was a narcissistic character that transformed into a monster, pretty creepy one
I mean, that really depends on the desire itself. Wanting to be god and wanting to play god are different things. Its my personal belief that if God exists than he has a natural moral that stops him from basically doing whatever he wants. Until certain conditions are met, there are only smaller things he can do up until larger ones that are incalculable. Things that no person even a person that thinks of it could truly understand. There are many desires, and I for one would love to be god, Not for the praise, not for the power, but simply because I like to be able to create and help, So many people focus on the bad aspects that they choose not to see the good. I think every desire can be good and bad. You could just also get someone sitting there incapable of being hurt that would leave you alone forever. Could be a very sad existence really.

People usually don't want to just be omnipotent/scient, they want to be a god because their insecure mind tells that that this is the only way to achieve a certain desire, so I guess that the curse will focus on that desire.
What about someone who desperately wants revenge on a monster?
Say a monster has been hunting them and their friends/neighbors for a while now, slowly killing them off. It kills the person, but not before the person accepts their soul's offer and turns into a monster whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill other monsters?
Interesting concept to me.
This happened at the end of webtoon, the main character wanted to protect his friends as they escaped and accepted his fate and agreed to let his soul take over turning his into a monster to protect his friends one last time before he lost control
@@C3R3ALM4K3R I read the webtoon. His desire, though, was to protect everyone. I meant someone who actually wants revenge on a monster. Rather than protection for everyone, he wants violence (but only towards the monsters).

You probably won’t bother with any other monster or people, unless they get in the way. After you kill that monster you want revenge on, you’ll probably lose control after.

Pretty sure it's also mentioned a lot in the adaption (I think) so like intense emotions turn you into monsters like that rude ass wife beating asshole (the greedy man)
It is also implied that the forced evolution is a way to rid humans of desires mainly because of what happens when a monster survives long enough

If anyone liked Sweet Home you should also read "Shotgun boy" from the same author. It's in the same universe and it's what caused "the virus" to spread in the first place. It's amazing (in my opinion of course).

This series is actually really good, I normally don't enjoy these types of series but there were a lot of elements about this that really worked well
I think a interesting monster would be one who desires “knowledge”
This monster will have all its memories form when it was human and maybe the only monster that can have retinal thinking. But the design I honestly don’t know, maybe you guys can think of something.

I read the webtoon of this a while ago and was a huge fan of it. Never realized it's gotten a Netflix adaption! I'm screaming!
What would happen if someone's deepest desire is to protect others? Whether it is someone they love, protect a child, or help the defenseless, or just protect everyone in general?
Spoilers for the webcomic, and also extremely late.
At the ending the main character mutates into a knight from the show he loved in order to defend the group of survivors from the psychopath that was trying to murder them as well as monsters on the zipline. However, after he killed the threats he began to turn on the other survivors as the monster had taken full control of his mind and actions.

@@flaviomonteiro1414 I think I would be an observer with many eyes surrounding me whilst staying in the shadows, I would watch events going on around me rather than participating, I am harmless unless provoked by survivors trying to kill me, and as a result, I would see that as self-defense. So I desire a quiet life, to have little to do with the bad going on with the world, my monster would take advantage of my misanthropy and my introverted personality. I would be a monster that would barely make any noise, for I long for the quiet, and so I wouldn't utter a phrase or any word. My silence would do the talking for me. For silence is also part of my desire.

A monster who had a desire to drink his woes away, would likely be friendly and have a mysterious unlimited supply of booze that is either tainted or perhaps just being around it would make others drunk or feel drunk in order to get to them or make it easier for other monsters to do so?
Would the other monsters also become drunk?
We've never seen them drink alcohol so who knows if they can get drunk.

This and one other series, the last survivor I think, really make it impossible to survive. Like, in the last survivor, some evolve to be skyscraper sized monsters who fight each other over territory with hordes of lesser evolved infected/zombies
The monsters are actually much more diverse than described in this video. In the webtoon there was this monster with a bunch of tentacles on it's back who's desire was to survive. There was also a mob boss who's desire was to survive and they turned into two completely different monsters. Just goes to show how you really can't know what to expect, as the monsters will mutate differently regardless of if they have the same desire or not. So this apocalypse is actually more deadly than you described in the video

“A nose bleed”. You mean a nose hemorrhage. I didn’t read the comic but I enjoyed the show. There was no “this person is a main character so they are safe”. Anyone was up to be killed by a monster or mutation. As sad as that was from time to time, it made it more devastating.

I do want to state that Hyun Su's trauma comes from much more than bullying and suicidal tendencies. In the web novel he was basically an otaku living in his room and his family begged him to go on a trip so they could go as a family, but he yelled at them and stayed home. Shortly after the family left without him and they all died in a car crash, leading Hyun Su to live in the apartments.
I think his suicidal tendencies were greatly increased because of this.
That was all in chapter one of the web novel...it is a really depressing start to the series.

This is super neat! But quick notes: The Curse isn't spread through infection, it's essentially the next stage in Human Evolution. Additionally, the monsters aren't Types. Every human becomes a unique monster reflective of their own unique desires. There will never be another Protein Monster exactly like the one in the Apartments, for example.

As usual with most adaptions, it's okay to kind of bad-ish, nowhere near as good as the original work. Which is deeply confusing to me since it would have been far easier and far more budget efficient for them to adapt The previous work BASTARD.

What if our desire is to become all of the foundation? Do we become indestructible and immovable? They got some really OP powers like making things stop existing or becoming a game with rules. Extremely strong reality anchors as well as abilities to will things out of existence. When combined will likely be god level beings in most comics, similar to "one above all" levels of powers in marvel comics.

The Spider Monster used to be a humanlike monster, with tentacles bursting out of his back to walk him around, and to tear him apart. His desire had something to do with wanting to live, as seen through the dialogue of, "I'm in DANGER", "Am I dying?' (when set on fire), "I can't die now", "I'm alive now" (when it put out the fire with the apartment sprinklers" and such. It turned into the Spider monster, after putting out the fire raging across its body with a sprinkler system that was in an apartment that it broke into. It doesn't seem like the desire changed, as after it evolved, it uttered words similar to what it said previously, and also ran away when faced with danger.
I loved Sung-Cheol's role and acting in this. He was added in the last 2 eps but still nailed his role!
Interesting fact the slime monster actually was a kid in the webtoon whos mom was killed by the missing half a head monster and the main character actually convinces them to stop harming folks
Its honestly investing to imagine what freakish monsters could appear especially with more exotic and strange desires

The lady who gave the security guard rotting fish just did it in a way to mess with him, in the webcomic it was shown in a flashback that happened long before the monsters started showing up.

I can't really remember but was that the bitchy rich lady who ran the daycare?? The one who sent her kid to an expensive private school rather than the local one?? She became less bitchy as the show went on but yeah, I kinda thought that it was her....and I thought it was the security guard who pulled down all the gates to try and protect the residents, you know, cos it was his job, and he was overworked and disrespected but he still cared about doing a good job...lol I cried so much when he and the sword guy died, they were both good guys trying to do the right thing

Oho how I love this series.
this is the only apocalypse i see myself surviving. not the monsters (they would kill me before transformation i think) but the inner demon. i also hurt myself like the protagonist and i stopped, willingly, with no help. it is every day battle, i think of it when i wake up and when i go to sleep, it never leaves my mind, how nice it would felt and all that bull. but i stopped and i continue to stop myself. i survived that voice for years now. i think i could do it.
The scene where the most powerless monster kills the katana guy made me cry.
The way he said what’s more powerful than a katana a weed Cutter, and cleanly cut a mans arm, with no emotion whatsoever in his voice, I am deeply offended by that and I’ll take that as a personal attack because I literally died, after I finished the show I was numb for weeks
Which is messed up because in the webcomic, it was one of the strongest monsters we'd seen at that point. They nerfed it in the show.
I laughed at that death because of imagine dragons.

To clear some stuff up (supplemented by info from the webcomic):
1. The slime monster was a child that didn't want to be seen by the monster that killed his mother
2. The spider monster was actually a man hellbent on survival by any means necessary
3. The blood/leech monster (if I remember correctly) wears a hospital gown in the comic so it could actually be someone in need of a blood/organ donation
Of course, they may change up origins and explanations because the webcomic creator did NOT want the show creators to follow the source material to a T, hence why it gets a bit loopy at the end with random plot points and new characters.
EDIT: I was wrong about the Leech monster. He wears a suit so his "desire" is now lost on me.
The leech monster in comic was probably a dude who wanted to live a 'parasitic' lifestyle
It's entirely possible that the leech monster just desired not to have the life sucked out of him by work and social responsibilities, so become the lifesucker. Also you're not the only one who thought he was wearing a hospital gown.

You actually wouldn’t get even more than one of each monster. Since every human mind is different, the monsters produced by their desires would also be drastically different
I'd say their be many similarities, like many speed and protein monsters since thouse exercises are common as well as their desires among people

Yeah, but many human desires are similar to one another. They would manifest a little differently every time, but many of those monsters woukd be somewhat compareable to one another

OH… MY…. GOD…. THIS SERIES HAD ME SOBBING SO HARD ONE EPISODE I HAD TO PAUSE IT I COULDN’T READ THE SUBTITLES THROUGH MY TEARS.
The Custodian monster was so strong because he consumed so many people, he literally weights a ton. He's so dense and strong in the comic he takes down 4 people.

It seems like the monster’s own worst enemy is other monsters. Just think about somebody who’s desire was to protect their loved ones might turn into a giant passive, mobile wall that is extremely protective of its family. What about neutral monsters, if somebody just wanted to be the perfect artist, they would probably turn into a monster with hair for hands that seeks out paint to paint everything in its path and only argos when you intentionally destroy it. There’s a lot of little loop holes that would make it that little bit less worse.

Actually the desire to protect plays out in the webtoon(which is waaaaaay better). Not saying it plays out the way you’re imagining it but you’re close.

I’m not speculating I’m just going based off of what the webtoon has established. There are harmless monsters like the woman who turns into a giant baby but that is all based on their desires. No desire (at least in the webtoon) is the same and no creature design is the same. The show has a lot of different changes to it that (in my opinion) makes it’s not as great as the webtoon it’s based on. Like none of the people who are monsters STAY monsters. It’s like more of an evolution. When people become monsters their consciousness goes on reliving their greatest desire again and again and again until they are satisfied. Once they are the monster form turns into a cocoon (which if attacked attracts monsters that are pissed off) that hatch a new evolution of humanity that feel nothing. No pain, no sadness, etc. that’s the way the webtoon goes with the premise.
My desire is to be able to kill every other monster. Bam saved humanity

@@gillgoryseraege3662 hasnt ended yet. There will most likely be a season 2. I just hate that some of the survivor at the end of the comic died in the netlfix adaptation. The Netflix adapation is pretty much another storyline and will have a different ending.
