Absolutely: what's the point of limiting yourself to liking only one type of music? And most people do mellow out as they get older and Ritchie is clearly no exception
no pedals. no effects. no distortion. just simple 16th notes. amazing articulate picking. the man is a walking dictionary of modes and the articulation is killing me, absolutely effortless picking... long live Blackmore. didn't give a f'k, took rock from one place to another, decided that it got too much marketing and boring... what a solo / accompanying track. he literally didn't stop playing from the top.
Ritchie here play one of the most underrated solo of all time and probably escape notice by most just because there is no distortion or effects. But the quality of the melody line in his solo is superlative.
No surprise that the "most replayed" bit is Richie's sublime guitar. He was and is one of the best players of all time. I love the bit he mouths buh-buh-buh-buh-buh telling the strings on his guitar what to do. Wonderful!
The origin of the guitar style that Blackmore adapted into his hard rock music was derived from this early classical style of guitar. Anyone who even understands music can draw the comparisons.
This may be one - nah it’s gotta be the best solo recorded; at least in the top 3. It fills me with feelings no other guitar solo does. Mannnnn Blackmore is a god.
All the questions as to whether Blackmore still "has it" on the guitar just got answered. It's hard to believe there's any "dislikes" on this. If someone doesn't like it they should just turn it off, or at least criticize constructively. Like it it or not, at least respect the brilliance of the craft involved.
I too am a huge deep purple and rainbow fan but I absolutely love this song as much as I do both both of these bands candace knight vocals and Ritchies guitar playing are so good together
Right, and many times the live versions sounds better the the album versions imo. This one for example and Black Masquerade with Rainbow and Anya with Deep Purple is another example
That solo @3:40 - 5:17...and the heaven-o-tone parted and sweet music emanated enveloping me for a short while. Life is beautiful. Ritchie belongs to the roster of the classical maestros.
Love Ritchie, saw him in the Purple prime days several times and I'm convinced he is certainly one of the greatest guitarist of his generation. Keep playing Ritchie, I'll be listening man!
Браво, Блекмор! 3.50 - Он весь в мелодии... Он витает в ней... Ничего Его не меняет , ни время... ни любовь к женщине... Браво, Великий Мастер! Браво! Людмила.
Ritchie is an intriguing guy. lol the total disregard for what others think of what he decides to do is funny. I enjoy his playing even in a renaissance festival band.

Sans contestation aucune, le meilleur guitariste de tous les temps.
For someone who started playing professionally nearly half a century ago, Ritchie still lays out a tasty solo. Give the man some credit - he was a rock god for half his life playing the way OTHER people expected him to. Now he's enjoying himself. Can't say he hasn't earned the right to walk around in Robin Hood regalia or whatever he damn well wants. Godspeed, Mr. Blackmore, and thank you for 50 years of great stuff.
In the shadow of the moon, She danced in the starlight Whispering a haunting tune To the night... Velvet skirts spun 'round and 'round Fire in her stare In the woods without a sound No one cared... Through the darkened fields entranced, Music made her poor heart dance, Thinking of a lost romance... Long ago... Feeling lonely, feeling sad, She cried in the moonlight. Driven by a world gone mad She took flight... "Feel no sorrow, feel no pain, Feel no hurt, there's nothing gained... Only love will then remain, " She would say. Shadow of the Moon... Shadow of the Moon... Somewhere just beyond the mist Spirits were seen flying As the lightning led her way Through the dark... Shadow of the Moon..
Ritchie takes me back when I used to enter Madison Square Garden walking fast to find my section and hearing that Marshall and strat from the halls before I entered the Arena. What a feeling. DEEP PURPLE concert. First time I saw the smoke machine.
Candice has a haunting voice she is not trying to be a rock singer her voice suits this music and what can be said about Ritchie that has not already been said .. I saw DP and Rainbow numerous times Ritchie is a true genius that keeps getting better
The only way to appreciate Blackmore is in the live setting ... studio albums are great but in concert you get to hear and see the genius of a modern day Mozart
We were all young once! Stop judging and listen, maybe you'll enjoy Ritchie's latest music even more. I know of another classical guitarist who does not have stage personality, but his playing is superb. RB should continue ignoring the idiots and do what he enjoys and love. Well done, your personal life does not feature with me, your music does, just keep doing this is all that matters.
Ritchie sait partir d' une mélodie quelconque et en faire un hymne, ça s' appelle du génie ! Je ne connaissais pas ce morceau mais je l' aime déjà après une seule écoute.
Candice reminds me of '70's singer Lyndsey De Paul. The resemblance is remarkable, she could have been Candice's mother. My favourite Blackmore's Night song by far. Ritchie is in his element here, finally making the music which makes him happy. Candice sings beautifully.
Really so much hate with the deep purple/rainbow and blackmore's night fans. i like them all and i think we should all just enjoy the music not argue about wich band is the best. and it looks like Ritchie is pretty happy with blackmore's night
When you get over the initial shock and realise that Ritchie isn't plugging in his strat so much you come to the conclusion I think that this group is very good. In fact I don't think this group is too diferent from early Rainbow when the legendary Ronnie James Dio was on vocals its just acoustic rather than electric and I actually think a lot of the Rainbow stuff from this era would suit this group very well indeed.
I just discovered this song while listening to Pandora. This live performance is even better. A haunting and mystical tune for sure. I think the magic comes from the sweet harmony of the vocals and that wizard playing lead guitar. The guitar solo alone is outstanding - now there's a true virtuoso if ever there was one. But the song...such a beautiful, unforgettable song - where has this song been all my life?
Lotr? And try top 1. Name ONE guitar player that plays he’s heart out like that? Ok maybe Knofler & Gilmore, but they are still 2nd & 3rd. (In any order u may seem fit)
Who wants to argue with me? Richie is just serious and impeccable. I was more thrilled that DP made it into the hall of fame than even Black Sabbath. While both iconic bands wrote music about topical issues, DP's messages were more everyday in context. I am not too much into hell or the devil, but Space Truckin' always seemed like it would be something cool to do.
Wow what a great live performance sounds like a 50 piece orchestra .. She is a stunning beauty with an Angelic voice and Richie is outstanding.. good to see them happy and gigging around the world...
Ritchie's Soft Side, So smooth & effortless, He's really shows his dexterity from One end of the spectrum to another , Often over shadowed by the Media for top Guitar greats, He's never been overlooked by his Piers...
Excellent. I am a Deep Purple fan, but, this is without question for those of us who like music as a whole, is some of Mr Blackmores best work.
well said! or in other words, "dude, wooooooord!" 🤘
Great R!rirchie Blackmore💞Impressive,👍Thanks for that
Ritchie is just an extraordinary guitarist w/a unique personality! Just the BEST!!
Absolutely: what's the point of limiting yourself to liking only one type of music? And most people do mellow out as they get older and Ritchie is clearly no exception
I like this as much as his Deep Purple albums. This beats the hell out of Rainbow.
no pedals. no effects. no distortion. just simple 16th notes. amazing articulate picking. the man is a walking dictionary of modes and the articulation is killing me, absolutely effortless picking... long live Blackmore. didn't give a f'k, took rock from one place to another, decided that it got too much marketing and boring... what a solo / accompanying track. he literally didn't stop playing from the top.
Legend...
Wut
May be just one effect. This Electric guitar sounds like a spanish guitar
That's the way he used to tune his guitar and probably still does. @@brutal3067
Ritchie is one of the world's greatest guitarists. The music he is making now is just so calming and joyful. This is a great example
He really does seem to be a "one of a kind" kind of a guy. 😅
Blackmore is so aggravatingly underrated it’s unbelievable.
He makes the guitar sing. Pure genius.
the guitar solo so incredible
Just when I thought I was bored with the strings, inspiration from one of the greats strikes me like lightning
Ritchie here play one of the most underrated solo of all time and probably escape notice by most just because there is no distortion or effects. But the quality of the melody line in his solo is superlative.
What a great solo from Ritchie ❤❤
Ritchie is a true musician, anyone can play guitar but it's rare to find someone who can communicate fluently through one.
Ritchie’s solo sound so beautiful
No surprise that the "most replayed" bit is Richie's sublime guitar. He was and is one of the best players of all time. I love the bit he mouths buh-buh-buh-buh-buh telling the strings on his guitar what to do. Wonderful!
Anything Blackmore does is awesome.
I find it amazing how Blackmore shifted his career, still being a great musician containing his unique style of playing the instrument.
He shifted a few times, before rock he actually came from classical background.
Almost 2024 and still listening to this masterpiece.
This is how you give a guitar soul........
The origin of the guitar style that Blackmore adapted into his hard rock music
was derived from this early classical style of guitar. Anyone who even understands
music can draw the comparisons.
All hail the greatest heavy metal guitarist of all time ...Father of power metal and neoclassical metal !!!
This may be one - nah it’s gotta be the best solo recorded; at least in the top 3. It fills me with feelings no other guitar solo does. Mannnnn Blackmore is a god.

Utterly amazing guitarist. Such command and control with fluidity like no others
All the questions as to whether Blackmore still "has it" on the guitar just got answered.

We want Rainbow
Ive listened to this solo thousands of times. I cant stop.
WOW. I have 3 of their DVDs, but this... is in another zone.
The Master, the King. That solo is so amazing!
I guess one of the most incredible solos ever invented….. Ritchie Blackmore on a electric or acoustic guitar is the same, a Genius.
Ritchie is on another realm with that solo. Damn i would've believe if someone saw that guitar smoke some cigarettes after that solo.
I Love this song. It reminded me of me & my girlfriend listening to all Blackmoore's Night. I still especially Love "Under a Violet Moon".
The. Best. Guitar. Solo. Ever. Bar none, period!!
Что творит змей... Сижу подбухиваю и кайфую. Мне 35 лет, но такого сейчас не делают. Кудесник Блекмор.
This live version is just so beautiful
This is the kind gentle side of Ritchie. Thanks in large part to his wife and lyricist/lead singer Candice Night, simply exquisite....

It is an excellent solo. There is something beyond the rock music, reaching the heaven.
It is so easy when you know how! Ritchie is by far the best guitar player ever!!!

This solo is literally one of Blackmore's best.
I wish the original studio had it.
Literally every note has it's place.
Ritchie Blackmore is truly talented , what a solo
RB is beyond all of talents!

This song is more heart-breakingly beautiful than it has any right to be…
Easily one of my favorite solos
He still amazes me, I've been a fan since 1975

I don't know what it is about this song, but it just completely calms my nerves no matter what.
It is the effect of the shadow of the moon.
That voice! Hauntingly beautiful wow
Candice reminds me of '70's singer Lyndsey De Paul.
The resemblance is remarkable, she could have been Candice's mother.
My favourite Blackmore's Night song by far.
Ritchie is in his element here, finally making the music which makes him happy.
Candice sings beautifully.
Well spotted! Just reminded me of LDP too.
And me
Superbe interprétation. Ce morceau est un parfait mélange du génie que représente l association De Richie et Candice. Magnifique et envoûtant.
By the by and by.... The shadow of the moon is the warmest place to be under moonlight... 😐

It was hiding on UA-cam, since the suits who run terrestrial radio only program music from pop tarts like Rihanna, Beyonce, or Katie Perry .
Hot Damn, that solo is supremely melodic
His solo is phantastic.
Beautiful jam Ritchie....you're an icon!
I love this song since 2001.
Thanks for the video.
Thumbs up and added to favorites.
Ritchie is still the best. Candace has a voice that can put me to sleep. In a good way. Good night!
The best... Long Live Richie!
when i bought this album, i was floored at how awesome and wonderful it was. This is my favorite song off that album.
I bought this when I was like 13-14 and had the album on repeat for months. This is also my fav song from that album.

Brilliant song and perfect solo by Ritchie. Every note complements this song beautifully.
I keep returning to this video....haunting my ears with delight...such a stunning song! Ritchie your fretwork is so inspiring!
It was the song Moonlight Shadow by Mike Oldfield that inspired BN to write Shadow of the moon. And - listen to both, they are quite similar.
I have liked every song by Blackmore's Night.
This is not cheap performance! Unique and never be replaced........love all.....Real Heaven..........dig it culture, magic!
Yeah, I know he went all "Lord of the Rings", but this is really good stuff! Top 5 guitarist of all time.

Blackmore's night is so underrated… But then, M. Blackmore did not go the commercial way, churning out that "metal" thingie over and over…
Omg, what a solo, it's incredible!
Ritchie our champ you truly hit the jacpot again! His grace be with you both eternally, for she is as so beautiful as an angel. Amen brother!
I was there.
An (incredibly, insanely beautiful) song that looks easy to sing, but is actually more technical than it seems… I'm still working my way through it.
So hauntng been a ritchie fan since the 60s
So atmospheric wants me rush out in the moonlight by the river and run with the spirits....

Very nice song, great arrangement, great performance, and great solos from vocalist and guitar!
Wow what a great live performance sounds like a 50 piece orchestra .. She is a stunning beauty with an Angelic voice and Richie is outstanding.. good to see them happy and gigging around the world...
