One take away I treasure from jazz that the drummer came be more than a time keeper this is a great example of that the drummer is answering eternal questions and you can feel the Sun Ra all over this
Two of Wonderful Three, are longer with us on this plane, yet we have this document which is a testament to time. I'm happy to hear and have this. Thanks.
Milford Graves, born in 1941was already 71, Henry Grimes, born in 1935 was 77 and Marshall Allen, born in ...1924 was 88 years old ! Hope I ll be mentally young as these guys when i get older !
Jazz is something that has escaped me, it has never grasped my soul, never has it moved me, never has it left me wanting more, .... however... I am 12 minutes into this video and can't seem to let go.... I guess, Jazz hypnotizes me....chaos in unison. .... Sadly , I have met you too late, Mr. Graves....
Very interesting. I had not seen Milford Graves or Henry Grimes before. Incredible. I don't know about Marshall Allen's behavior but Mr. Graves was there. I am glad he was willing to address it with him and share it with us. I saw Mr. Allen twice with the Arkestra in the 90's and didn't see anything like that then. This is an amazing performance. Thank you.
Milford Graves leads in inspiring other musicians to bring out their BEST, inclining them-challenging them in fact- to hear those drum melodies, melodies that expose the music of the heart, melodies that lay bare the falsehood of mainstream music theory-notes being limited to 12 (?!).
I know these guys very well, the comments made about his juicing is unfounded... Marshall been giving relentlessly for a millennium and he's still going strong... I appreciate their honest expressions. And I thank the Creator for their existence... The musicians on the session look up to and respect his seniority... We in the music community have no problem with that ...long live these pioneers and the music....
just so you know, that actually was Milford making that comment three years ago, and he had the talk w Marshall, so if you know them well and are having some problem, talk to them and see what they say
I was watching Milford's body language here, how at the end of the set he turned his back on the audience and immediately picked up his drum. He wasn't annoyed at the audience he was annoyed at Marshalls' antics. I liked the music anyway
I had a talk with Marshall after the performance and I told him that his actions on the stage were inappropriate. This was not about him hearing Henry. His behavior was affected by the amount of beverage that was in his body.
I've been wondering about Marshall's behavior in this video for a while! Never thought to scroll to the comments. Thank you, Mr. Graves! (I also can't imagine something more intimidating than Milford Graves sitting one down to have a talk. It's like a combination of your dad and a cosmic force speaking with one voice to tell you they're not mad, just disappointed.)
Milford Graves My name is Chris Amberger and I was a member of a group Called Apogee in Boston and NYC In 1971-1974. It included myself on bass, David S Ware-ts, Gene Ashton-piano(aka Couped Up Moore) joke & Marc Edwards-drums We would play for hours extreme energy unheard of very little if any recorded sounds of the universe today and future colliding at an unbroken sphere!
I could do without the saxophone. The bass and drums, on the other hand, are superb. I suppose if I had been there live it would have been a whole different story. Live music is so much better than recordings.
RIP Milford Graves. I can’t thank you enough for showing me the other path.
First Henry, now Milford. Thank you for your love. Your energy will never leave us

He was very kind to me as a college student. Always built me up. Wrote a lovely evaluation. Grateful.
Milford Graves, pure energy from the 5th dimension, a portal if you will.

Amazing
AND THAT VIOLIN OF HENRYS .....!!
Wonderful.✨🎇💫❤☄🔥💧🌊
Henry Grimes should play poker- his expression doesn't change for the entire performance, despite Marshall's provocations.
Reminds me of Jalamadeen Tacuma playing half a concert with closed eyes..the mainstream half.

Around 21.00, the bass player looks at the guy in the hat and sunglasses. The look on his face is one of "Don't you give me any of that bullshit!!!"
Cap and sunglasses, actually.
Bu ne muhteşem bir gösteri!...
