    That's my parents farm! I get better meat than anyone in the world! Their animals get better care and love than most people do. That's why the meat is such high quality. The better you treat them the better they taste! The mowing was neat too. Thanks Tim for including my family and the farm in your video!

      The way you treat them does not play that much into the taste of the meat. Stress can affect it to some degree but it takes a lot of stress. What changes the taste of the meat the most is what you feed to the animal.

    I was very impressed with the performance of the mower. Can’t wait to see it in a little taller/thicker grass. I had to chuckle at you pushing the gate with the tractor. I do that all the time myself.
    Great video as always. Thanks for bringing us along.

    I was fortunate enough to grow up on a 200 acre mixed operation farm in west central WI in the 40’s and 50’s. My Dad had a dozen or fifteen dairy cows, 15 or 20 hogs and 15 beef cattle. We sold some crops but most of it fed our livestock. Each year we butchered 10 or so beef while the rest were “shipped” to the stockyards in South St Paul MN. The beef were raised on grass and finished on ground oats and corn. The butchered cattle were butchered three or four at a time in our hay mow then quartered and aged for 30 days in our basement. We sold them by the pound ($0.35 for hind quarters and $0.30 for fronts) to people around the community and as far away as the twin cities. We delivered the aged quarters to a local “locker” to be cut up to the customer’s order. My Dad bought our first TV by trading a half a beef. That was 1949.

    I have two tractors about that size and the newer one has 32 hp and the older one has more horsepower but also does a great job with the bush hog I keep on it for mowing. I use my newer tractor to run my other implements with and it don't seem to be a problem as both tractors lifts the implements perfectly. I don't have a cutter as large as the one you are using and that tractor is working perfectly for both of you guys. You really need two acres per cow to raise them properly and I learned that while in high school and the FFA. The more land you have the more cattle you can raise. They have to be moved from one area to another to let the grass grow up in each area and not have all of it getting too low and staying that way.

      Might be a bit different here in the rolling hills of TN. That mower might end up pushing the JD around - not enough weight up front. Its a real consideration for safety. And let's face it, that's just topping dry grass. But for what they're doing, this works just fine.

    Being an owner of a 2038r I really was curious about how well it would do with this mower . I am looking forward to seeing it work in heavy stuff.
    On a side note when I was a kid we used to use fried piles for base pads playing ball. I also recall the first time I road a dirt bike in my uncles pasture. I had only ridden street bikes and the sort of rule on the street is you use your front brake. No one told me not to use it on the dirt. The first time I used it the bike went down in a half a second. I slid right through a fresh cow pile right up to my cousin. He looked down and said are you ok. I said yea just get me the garden hose. It was head to toe down my side. In my hair. Lesson learned the hard way.

    That's the beauty of a hydrostatic transmission. You can go as slow as you want to run an other wise large implement that a standard transmission tractor might not be able to without pushing in the clutch to let the engine catch up! About the only time a standard transmission tractor is superior to a hydrostatic transmission is if you are primarily using ground engaging equipment such as a moldboard plow or discing for hours on end. Hydrostatic looses some power to the ground but is oh-so handy for most applications ! Just my 2 cents.

    • @Shawn-rq4py
      @Shawn-rq4py 5 років тому

      I had a Kubota about 13-14 years ago that was roughly 30ish hp that was a hydro trans. I had a 5’ cutter and it bogged down all the time. Whether I was using the loader or cutter it always seemed to get real sluggish especially if the field was high. Anything over 3’ or so and I had to run really slow and in 4wd. I really liked the hydro but it just didn’t perform well for me.
      Now it could have been just that particular tractor but it definitely kept me away from them when I bought my JD. Have you ever dealt w such a problem w them?

    • @prevost8686
      @prevost8686 5 років тому

      Shawn I have a B2710 Kubota hydro transmission. It’s only a 27hp and the heaviest work I do with it is running a tiller in this heavy red clay and rock we have. It’s a 3 spd hydro. Obviously tilling is best done on low, a 60” mower will cut anything on medium, and you could actually mow on high speed if you could stay seated on it😀going that fast. My larger tractors that I use for turning plows & big bush hogs , etc. run shuttle shift transmissions but on any tractor 40hp or less that would be used for small farm chores I’d take hydro every time. From moving snow, running a loader, or mowing there’s nothing more convenient than a hydro transmission IMHO. The hydro fluid is the life of the things . Keep top quality fluid and clean filters on them and they’re trouble free. At least my Kubota has been anyway.

    • @Shawn-rq4py
      @Shawn-rq4py 5 років тому

      Wayne Swicegood it must have just been that particular tractor I had. I did buy it used so you never know.
      My JD is a power reverser (43hp) and I really like it. It does everything I need n my 16 acre plot as well as runs the backhoe attachment. Been running it for 9 years now w normal minor wear and tear issues.
      No matter the brand there can always be one that just doesn’t make it so maybe the one i had was the runt of the litter so to speak.

      @@TractorTimewithTim Thats what I was thinking. When I was looking for my tractor I was looking at the 3 series that went up until 2013 so the 3320 3520 and the 3720. I almost bought a 3520 but it was sold before I got a chance to look at it and now Im glad I didn't get the 3520 because I finally got the 3720 the biggest of the 3 series and sometimes Im still wishing I had more power. In all actuality I really would have liked to have gotten a 4 series but I couldn't find any with a mid mount mower one of the main reasons that I wanted the tractor to begin with. So Elk Creek Acres I would agree with Tim that you should go with the 3046r you wont regret it. I would rather have a little more power than you need than not enough. Have a great day and GOD BLESS

    I don't what to change the world, but one would think, splitting the back in half - drive down it mowing - then turn one way or the other at the end. Now mow the end and then the outside of that strip. Mow the end and continue and mow the other half from the center outward or the outside inward. When turning the short ends, it is 90 and then it is half a field or more to turn. Flip back and forth and you don't have to turn tight on the last several on either side. Draw it on paper and see what I mean. Sprials tend to end up with a turn around in one lane. Back and forth mowing prevents that. Just a thought. It helps on our small spot of land.

    I don't know much about Belted Galway cattle, but if you cross them with a Scottish Highlander you get a Scottish Highlander without the horns. The Scottish Highlanders are browsers and will eat anything a goat will eat. Despite their 6' horns, they are very gentle and will come when called by name. The beef when butchered is beautifully marbled. The fellow who runs Swedish Homestead uses rotational grazing and my goodness, they are good lawnmowers.

      50 horse might could handle a 15 but you have to think about the weight of the mower slinging the tractor around. We have a 100 horse 5 series that'll pull a 20ft mower but the weight pushes that tractor around when turning so we have to use a 6 series to pull it

    Love your videos, After watching your videos I bought a 10' flexwing mower, leaks fluid from day 1. Has a bolt with a hole drilled into it that sprays fluid all the time thats located on the center hydro cylinder. Emailed them asking for the part so I could fix it, and even willing to pay for the part even though its brand new and defective. Basicly told me to go f my self! I recommend before you buy anything from rhino, try to get a part for the item you want to buy and see what happens.

      Hey Bobby. Thanks for reaching out.
      The center cylinder is likely plumbed as a 'one way' cylinder for you. That allows this 'leakage'. Can you contact me tim at tractortimewithtim dot com (via email)? I'll get you hooked up with someone who can help.

    What is the transport width of that Rhino 10ft mower ? Looks to not be a wide load ?

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  5 років тому +1

      Right! One of the best features. The specs say 93 inches. However, that is when the wheels are all the way ‘out’. Lowering the mower on the trailer brings it down into the 70’s. I haven’t measured exactly, but t was narrow enough that I could set another attachment beside it on the trailer for the trip home from Rhino!

    Tim after watching your video about the PTO horsepower Dyno on the different tractors, I am wondering how my 3025E would do pulling this 10 foot batwing? It looks like you’re pulling it fine in this video however that tractor has more horsepower rating than mine, but it didn’t Dyno that good compared to the others? What are your thoughts on using a 3025E with a mower this size?

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  5 років тому +1

      Well, the 3025e SHOULD not be able to pull it. However, it is hard for me to say that for sure based on the dyno test...as you mention.
