For anyone stuggeling with Nightmare king grimm, I would HEAVILY suggest using sharp shadow, and play really defensively, focusing on dodging his attacks over anything else. This way, you don't have to focus on getting in hits, as your dodges damages him automatically, and you can lay all of your energy and attention on dodging and surviving. This strategy worked really well for me at least
You need to consider that u have to beat him 5 times with the last time 1 hit take away 5 masks. He is pretty easy to fight hitless if u can catch the ball and not letting it touch the ground. The wave can be dodge with shadow dash.
Grimm in both his forms is hands down one of the best bosses of all time. It is absolutely amazing what kind of content Hollow Knight delivered for just 14.99€.

Grey Prince Zote gave me so much trouble for such a long time...I honestly thought that I wouldn't be able to complete the Pantheon of the Sage because of him. I just needed to focus--watch him closely, understand which attack he's going to do, and dodge accordingly. Don't forget any of the abilities you have, because they can all help you in this fight. I ended up using Descending Dark more than anything, given how often he falls over. As much as I wanted to end the fight quickly, rushing in to attack swiftly proved to be a terrible strategy. Nightmare King Grimm took me a total of four hours to beat...mostly because I didn't understand the meaning of the phrase "LEARN HIS ATTACKS". Now that I've beaten him more than a few times, I really don't find him that difficult, as dodging his attacks comes mostly down to muscle memory at this point.
I totally understand you, for me it also took about 6 hours to complete all 10 Zotes in dirtmouth. Bud now I'm at absolute radiance but I just don't understand how to beat her with bindings or on radiant difficulty because this is an absolute nightmare.

Ironically the hardest boss for me was The Failed Champion, because I fought him early in the game without knowing it. Nightmare Grimm was easiest for me because he was the last dream boss I fought, and I had experience and all the charms :) (Tip for those who are struggling with Nightmare Grimm: use all health boosting charms and practice dodging his attacks)

That works on steel soul but people most times decide to fight dream bosses in sequence when they already have unbreakable charms or when they are using builds that take this charms out
I found Lost Kin really difficult and it took me like a good 20 tries to finally beat him, but I didn't have the Shade Cloak. Looking back at it, I'm guessing the fight would have been a lot easier with it. Then again it also made me completely destroy the rest of the bosses in the game because of the skill I acquired
On my first playthrough I actually finished the game without knowing shade cloak and howling wraiths existed. Found them after beating THK, over 95% completion Controversial opinion : if Lost kin or its minion were doing 2 damage on every hit like NKG, it'd be harder than NKG. LK is less predictable but is however good at predicting where you're gonna go and jump on your face.
If you hit him while bowing, though, he’ll do it a fourth time right at the beginning. I love his screaming animation, but uh, rather’d watch someone else suffer

My list: 6: Soul tyrant.... his fight is long but ehm... he doesn’t do a lot to try and kill you... his main attack is obnoxiously teleporting away from you. 5: white defender.... like soul tyrant but he tries to kill you. 4: lost kin.... nowadays i can beat him no problem but back then i had trouble with just how fast he was... even with defenders crest! 3: failed champion.... while yes, all you really have to do is dash right under him a lot... his timings can be awkward and his damage output is fast and ruthless... 2: Grey prince Zote.... what happens if you take lost kin’s ability to spawn units mix it with the shockwaves from failed champion and then for good measure add in the unpredictability of Zote.... Well you get a giant mess... which Team Cherry decided was good idea. 1: *NIGHTMARE KING GRIMM....* what can i say?... he’s just ruthless... i mean i find pure vessel to be harder but still this guy is just rough.

nightmare king grimm gets quite easy after you get used to his fighting style!! hes one of my favourite battles. the only charms i remember using are grimmchild (obviously), sharp shadow and hiveblood,,,but i only recommend hiveblood if you know exactly what youre doing or at least have a good idea. i hope whoevers stuck on him gets him ^^
Sharp Shadow is a godsend(hehe) for beating NKG, since all of his attacks are slow enough to respond to. Doesn't really change the fact that it took me 5 hours, but I honestly want to rematch both versions in Godhome soon.
Personally I found a dash to double jump more reliable when dealing with Grimm's downward thrust to sideways slash. Also he has a couple of excellent healing oppurtunities (though very very tight, and the quick heal charm is advised), the first is inbetween the spikes. 2nd, right after the 4th flame pillar starts and 3rd, jump over the 2nd flame bat and heal, the 4th bat will fly over you and miss (due to it having tracked you in the air)
One more tip for soul tyrant if you stay on the edge of the arena when soul tyrant is going to phase 2 you can stay there and if you stay there you can heal
IF YOU STILL CAN’T BEAT IT: Try: sharp shadow, unbreakable strenght, mark of pride, sprintmaster I had problems beating it but that’s the set that got me trough it in just a couple tries.
If people are still having trouble with Lost Kin I found that the GrimmChild can help kill them for you along with doing extra damage! I decided to use Quick Focus also to heal quicker
I found Lost Kin the easiest. Maybe I just got super lucky, but I barely got hit and smashed him in like forty seconds on the first try. After that, I thought White Defender was fairly easy. I struggled a bit with Failed Champion and literally can't beat any of the others :(
Lost Kin was terrible for me, and then my mom watched me fight him and I won like what. Haven't fought anyone else yet, but gotta beat Troupe Leader Grimm first...
Really? you can't beat Soul Tyrant? He's so easy I got him on 2nd try. Only reasion I died the first time is because I didn't know he has a second phase
Whenever Grimm would do the pufferfish thing I would look for an opening where I could shade soul him, as using that attack could keep you in midair to dodge the flames and damage him at the same time.

Note that Decending Dark lets you force White Defender to the surface when he's tunnelling. It both forces him to the surface and stuns him, so it's definitely worth doing.

Gonna be honest, I struggled quite a bit with failed knight because I completely forgot how to beat him. Took me like 7 attempts to remember “oh I can go under him.”
Tip for NKG if you hold out a map and walk forward when NKG is using the fire spikes, and after he uses the third fire spike deal as much damage as possible
I found failed Knight so hard cuz the way his movesets works confuses me so much cuz I always dash back out of habit and get hit from his aerial strike

Quick tip for White Defender: Just keep face-tanking him. When he jumps out of the ground releasing 10 dung balls, go towards him - this will allow for an easy 150+ damage with a Coiled Nail. When he turns into a ball and starts bouncing around, you can get one or two easy heals. He really lacks melee attacks, so once you come close you can get a lot of hits while taking one or zero masks damage. That works only on the first try, obviously. Charms: Quick Slash, Mark of Pride, Quick Focus (And also Fragile Health if you have 11 notches, but you most likely don't)
I just beat NKG this morning (European time), and me, my little bro (who loves watching me play hollow knight, or ghosty as he calls it with my hornet plush) and the people I'm in a group chat with were so happy I finally beat it since i struggled with it and they really wanted to see me beat it! I was never so happy I beat a boss and I felt my heart pounding on the beat like Grimms heart just before he died 😂 I managed to win on one health with unbreakable strength and heart, quick slash and Grimmchild because obvious reasons
BlueSleeper86 how much health did you have to tank him and what nail upgrade? I personally found him to be one of the hardest on my first try in fact I think he killed me more than nkg but that’s only because I fought pure vessel before nkg and pure vessel is way harder.
I just platinum this game yesterday (also Thanks for your tips videos) , imo the easiest to hardest dream bosses : Lost Kin, Grey Zote (1st time), White Defender, Failed Champ, Tirant Soul, Nightmare Grimm (Damn this fight was INSANE)
Somehow for me, NKG and soul tyrant are the easiest because they do the same attacks over and over, and after a few tries I almost no hitted both. On the other hand, I hate lost kin and greyprince zote, on the pantheons, I barely survive their attacks. Lost kin is the worst for me because on the pantheons, my main build doesn't have the defender's crest and those balloon things always get me.
I was like let's do Nightmare King Grimm with only 7 masks my sister told me that it's insane to do it this way but i think that i had a pretty good charm Set! ✨ (Grubsong, unbreakebl Heart, sharp Shadow, grimmchild and Nailmaster's Glory) that's how i defeated him after 4-5 hours but i think He was fun doing c:
I think we should count the Godhome bosses as dream bosses, no? I mean, you may not, but I will (aside from Absolute Radiance, that boss is pathetic and doesn't need to exist at all, it's really just lazy game design at this point). Here is *my personal* ranking: 10. *Paintmaster Sheo* (first try) A boss that is _way too easy_ to even be considered a boss, honestly. I don't think I ever needed to heal in this fight: I lost like 2 points of health. 9. *Brothers Oro & Mato* (first try) A boss that is good but easy. Unlike Watcher Knights, they don't gang up on you, which is fantastic, but it also makes them significantly easier. To the point where I was able to beat them rather easily on my first try. 8. *Lost Kin* (first try) I have _absolutely no idea_ how and why people have troubles with this boss. Like, sure, it's movements are erratic and infected balloons are a nuisance, but that is only if you are a lower than average player. It's moves become, very quickly, predictable and it is incredibly easy to just bully the vessel into submission of constant staggers. And the infected balloons die in one hit, so you really just have to deal with them in time. 7. *White Defender* (first try) Another really easy boss, only poses a threat in his Zeal (it's called that on the Wiki) phase when he starts thrashing around, but even then he is more than manageable. He is only higher than Lost Kin because you _can_ get cornered and you _can_ take a lot of damage during the Zeal if you panic. Also, sometimes his spikes get you simply because you happen to stand to close to him when he does them. 6. *Soul Tyrant* (1 death) He can overwhelm you with impressive speed, which is why he is higher than everyone else. He only deals one damage per hit though, so he still is easy. Notably the first Dream Boss I fought and the first one I died to. 5. *Grey Prince Zote (3 deaths) Really don't see the problem here. Zote killed me a few times because I was getting used to his mechanics (which do possess a rather significant amount of RNG in them, which automatically makes the boss harder _and_ worse) and because of his stupid walk. Really, I've been hit by his walking more than by anything else! 4. *Great Nailsage Sly* (5 deaths) Second phase was really hard to deal with for whatever reason. 3. *Failed Champion* (8 deaths) Bullshit boss. What makes Hollow Knight's bosses so fun is that you have to learn their movements in order to overcome them, and that's what makes the victory satisfying. The Failed Champion gives you *none* of that. Not only is about 90% or so of the fight decided by RNG, but you don't get soul from hitting him so you have very few opportunities to heal. 2. *Pure Vessel* (27 deaths) What a great boss. The second hardest boss in the game. And may I note, the difference in difficulty between the Pure Vessel and the Nightmare King and the third hardest boss, the Radiance, is *humongous* . Like, actually humongous. Still, this boss is excellent because it is totally fair. You have to learn their patterns in order to achieve victory and there is very little randomness involved. 1. *Nightmare King Grimm* (35 deaths) Best boss in the game. Hardest boss in the game. Ah yes, the Nightmare King. I spent quite a few minutes thinking about whether or not to put the Pure Vessel above him (though I certainly found NKG more difficult, most of the community appears to think otherwise), I still think this guy is the hardest boss. Same as the Pure Vessel, you cannot cheese him, you cannot find any easy way around him. And he is absolutely fair, forcing you to learn his attacks perfectly.
I didn’t count the godhome bosses as dream bosses ONLY because this video was meant to be for someone looking to get essence. After I got the dream nail I wanted to get Essence easily and wanted to know which dream boss was the easiest. The paint master is the easiest for sure. I had a little trouble with the brothers. I still haven’t made it through the 3rd pantheon to fight Sly (or pure vessel) 😅🤫
Pure Vessel for me is better than NKG because it changes the way you think. To defeat NKG you just need to dodge his Pufferfish attack (that was hard but when I learned the pattern I never died to it), his air-ground and ground-aur attacks. When he throws firebats, just shadow-dash through the first one and double-jump above the fourth - then attack without risk. When he does fire pillars, just wait a little and move a little so pillars don't damage you. And you can damage him. Spike attack is the best time to heal. However, to defeat Pure Vessel you should just think in a different way. When he performs an attack, you should dash TOWARDS him, even if you know your dash is not long enough to do it safely. You must not retreat (unless it is the focus attack), but jump into the battle and then his attacks will mostly go through you so you won't get damaged. Unless it is the focus attack (seriously, it killed me like 5 times because I was mid-air and couldn't dash away).

As to NKG his pufferfish attack has never got me. the rest of his attacks though cannot say the same.... Which I know some will say but he is predictable and is easy... and you are right his moves are predictable... but for some reason he has and does kick my butt everytime lol
So, my wife walked in as soon as you said "get him between his balls", and now she's concerned. Moving right along, I FINALLY delivered that flower to the grave (and to Elderbug BECAUSE HE'S WORTH IT!) Gonna tackle the White Palace next and I am terrified.
I know this video is a bit old, but I would recommend replacing quick strike with quick focus or shaman stone. As quick strike only lets you attack faster, which isn’t really that useful against Grimm as he is constantly teleporting. At best, you could maybe get an extra hit in after his fire bats attack.
I honestly had a lot of trouble with Lost Kin, but I also didn't know Defender's charm was a way to cheese it. I'd always keep getting overwhelmed by all of the enemies.
Quick tip for the failed champion: once u knock him down jump behind him and hit his armor (not the head) this resets the staggertime, basically allowing u to fill ur soul/heal back to full .. all u need to do is jump behind him hit the armor then dreamnail/heal quick hit on the armor again and repeat .. once ur back in fighting condition just hit the head and continue the fight.. if u use a shaman stone once he is up shoot 5 spells and hes back down in staggermode, repeat the whole process 3 times and u will win without any trouble at all
I actually just managed to defeat NKG last week I found sharp shadow to be really useful to deal damage when you dodge the attacks where he dashes towards you
For dream bosses in general and especially NKG, try using the blue charms that give you extra health (Lifeblood Core and Joni's blessing are the 2 best) You won't have much window to heal during these fights anyway so take the extra health.
i just got into hollow knight this month and beat NKG last night, took me nearly 2 hours LOL what a fight though, favorite in the whole game. The music, the speed, the atmosphere. 10/10
A little tip for Grimm is when he does the attack and go up dash away and not on him and attack, you always will be in a safe spot when the fire goes down on you
Nightmare King Grimm is very mechanical once you figure out a) that every one of his attacks has a very distinct tell and b) to only move when Grimm makes you.

Tips for nkg. Use sharp shadow, and when u dash through his upper cut into the fireballs, stand still after the dash. If the timing is right, then you will never be hit by the fireballs and it is possible to get a heal off. I also used fast focus here to get heals off and it worked great for me. Gl
Have you all noticed that nightmare king Grimm is slightly bigger than Grimm, but he also has different personalities, as Grimm is benevolent, but nightmare king is malevolent
If anyone is having trouble with failed champion you can cheese the whole thing with weversong and just hold crystal dash in the top left corner just pop down when his head is exposed and that’s it. (Hope this helps!)
Tip for NKG. The corners, I've found to be the safest spots for this fight. It makes his uppercut attack a lot more confined. It makes his spike attack more obvious. His fire bats attack can be avoided by jumping over the first one and letting the second low one fly over you. Your fire pillar technique was perfect though.
For failed champion I'd suggest having shade cloak and equipping the sharp shadow and dash master charms on to do damage(x1. 5 nail damage) by dashing through the boss, for when he jumps back I actually run to him and dashed through to his other side. It allows me to avoid having to deal with the shock waves and always me attack from his other side while he's still in his animation
My favorite Dream Bosses is Failed Champion, Lost Kin, and White Defender. I actually really like the Maggots and the fact that one of them was brave enough to try and protect his siblings
Personally I found Lost Kin much easier than Failed Champion. I also don't know why you'd use the Soul Catcher charm for Failed Champion. Your nail attacks don't build soul on him (except for the head which is very minimal). Failed Champion has constant pressure on you, many attacks do 2 masks of damage and you constantly have the falling rocks to avoid.
What I use for failed champion is fragile/unbreaking strength, quick slash, mark of pride, and sharp shadow. As soon as he jumps in, just keep smacking him, and do as the video tells you about the jumping part, after you get him vulnerable and stuff, just keep hitting him, even when he hops to the middle to make rocks fall from the sky. This can skip the rocks and you can repeat it until he ded
This game still surprises me with how much hidden content it has. I thought beating some of the spirit warriors to gain essence was a challenge, but damn.

You need to consider that u have to beat him 5 times with the last time 1 hit take away 5 masks. He is pretty easy to fight hitless if u can catch the ball and not letting it touch the ground. The wave can be dodge with shadow dash.
Grimm in both his forms is hands down one of the best bosses of all time. It is absolutely amazing what kind of content Hollow Knight delivered for just 14.99€.

Grey Prince Zote gave me so much trouble for such a long time...I honestly thought that I wouldn't be able to complete the Pantheon of the Sage because of him. I just needed to focus--watch him closely, understand which attack he's going to do, and dodge accordingly. Don't forget any of the abilities you have, because they can all help you in this fight. I ended up using Descending Dark more than anything, given how often he falls over. As much as I wanted to end the fight quickly, rushing in to attack swiftly proved to be a terrible strategy.
Nightmare King Grimm took me a total of four hours to beat...mostly because I didn't understand the meaning of the phrase "LEARN HIS ATTACKS". Now that I've beaten him more than a few times, I really don't find him that difficult, as dodging his attacks comes mostly down to muscle memory at this point.

I totally understand you, for me it also took about 6 hours to complete all 10 Zotes in dirtmouth. Bud now I'm at absolute radiance but I just don't understand how to beat her with bindings or on radiant difficulty because this is an absolute nightmare.

Ironically the hardest boss for me was The Failed Champion, because I fought him early in the game without knowing it. Nightmare Grimm was easiest for me because he was the last dream boss I fought, and I had experience and all the charms :) (Tip for those who are struggling with Nightmare Grimm: use all health boosting charms and practice dodging his attacks)

A cool thing to note is that In these dream bosses, the breakable charms don't break.
That works on steel soul but people most times decide to fight dream bosses in sequence when they already have unbreakable charms or when they are using builds that take this charms out

Don't kill left maggot near the corpse. You can dreamnail it several time to get soul before the fight.

I found Lost Kin really difficult and it took me like a good 20 tries to finally beat him, but I didn't have the Shade Cloak. Looking back at it, I'm guessing the fight would have been a lot easier with it. Then again it also made me completely destroy the rest of the bosses in the game because of the skill I acquired

Controversial opinion : if Lost kin or its minion were doing 2 damage on every hit like NKG, it'd be harder than NKG. LK is less predictable but is however good at predicting where you're gonna go and jump on your face.

6: Soul tyrant.... his fight is long but ehm... he doesn’t do a lot to try and kill you... his main attack is obnoxiously teleporting away from you.
5: white defender.... like soul tyrant but he tries to kill you.
4: lost kin.... nowadays i can beat him no problem but back then i had trouble with just how fast he was... even with defenders crest!
3: failed champion.... while yes, all you really have to do is dash right under him a lot... his timings can be awkward and his damage output is fast and ruthless...
2: Grey prince Zote.... what happens if you take lost kin’s ability to spawn units mix it with the shockwaves from failed champion and then for good measure add in the unpredictability of Zote.... Well you get a giant mess... which Team Cherry decided was good idea.

the only charms i remember using are grimmchild (obviously), sharp shadow and hiveblood,,,but i only recommend hiveblood if you know exactly what youre doing or at least have a good idea.

Sharp Shadow is a godsend(hehe) for beating NKG, since all of his attacks are slow enough to respond to.
Doesn't really change the fact that it took me 5 hours, but I honestly want to rematch both versions in Godhome soon.
I found that the invincibility duration charm works very well for grimm, gives plenty of time to regain composure after each hit

Personally I found a dash to double jump more reliable when dealing with Grimm's downward thrust to sideways slash.
Also he has a couple of excellent healing oppurtunities (though very very tight, and the quick heal charm is advised), the first is inbetween the spikes. 2nd, right after the 4th flame pillar starts and 3rd, jump over the 2nd flame bat and heal, the 4th bat will fly over you and miss (due to it having tracked you in the air)

If people are still having trouble with Lost Kin I found that the GrimmChild can help kill them for you along with doing extra damage! I decided to use Quick Focus also to heal quicker

I found Lost Kin the easiest. Maybe I just got super lucky, but I barely got hit and smashed him in like forty seconds on the first try. After that, I thought White Defender was fairly easy. I struggled a bit with Failed Champion and literally can't beat any of the others :(

Whenever Grimm would do the pufferfish thing I would look for an opening where I could shade soul him, as using that attack could keep you in midair to dodge the flames and damage him at the same time.

Note that Decending Dark lets you force White Defender to the surface when he's tunnelling. It both forces him to the surface and stuns him, so it's definitely worth doing.
That only works for dung defender, white defender is immune to this.

Tip for NKG if you hold out a map and walk forward when NKG is using the fire spikes, and after he uses the third fire spike deal as much damage as possible
I found failed Knight so hard cuz the way his movesets works confuses me so much cuz I always dash back out of habit and get hit from his aerial strike
With some practice you will get it. You always want to dash under him whenever possible. And if he jumps away get ready to jump over the shock wave

Quick tip for White Defender:
Just keep face-tanking him. When he jumps out of the ground releasing 10 dung balls, go towards him - this will allow for an easy 150+ damage with a Coiled Nail. When he turns into a ball and starts bouncing around, you can get one or two easy heals. He really lacks melee attacks, so once you come close you can get a lot of hits while taking one or zero masks damage. That works only on the first try, obviously. Charms: Quick Slash, Mark of Pride, Quick Focus (And also Fragile Health if you have 11 notches, but you most likely don't)
I used Sharp Shadow on NKG and saved most of, if not, all my Soul for healing with Quick Focus
I just beat NKG this morning (European time), and me, my little bro (who loves watching me play hollow knight, or ghosty as he calls it with my hornet plush) and the people I'm in a group chat with were so happy I finally beat it since i struggled with it and they really wanted to see me beat it! I was never so happy I beat a boss and I felt my heart pounding on the beat like Grimms heart just before he died 😂 I managed to win on one health with unbreakable strength and heart, quick slash and Grimmchild because obvious reasons

I just platinum this game yesterday (also Thanks for your tips videos) , imo the easiest to hardest dream bosses : Lost Kin, Grey Zote (1st time), White Defender, Failed Champ, Tirant Soul, Nightmare Grimm (Damn this fight was INSANE)
Somehow for me, NKG and soul tyrant are the easiest because they do the same attacks over and over, and after a few tries I almost no hitted both. On the other hand, I hate lost kin and greyprince zote, on the pantheons, I barely survive their attacks. Lost kin is the worst for me because on the pantheons, my main build doesn't have the defender's crest and those balloon things always get me.
I was like let's do Nightmare King Grimm with only 7 masks my sister told me that it's insane to do it this way but i think that i had a pretty good charm Set! ✨ (Grubsong, unbreakebl Heart, sharp Shadow, grimmchild and Nailmaster's Glory) that's how i defeated him after 4-5 hours but i think He was fun doing c:

I think we should count the Godhome bosses as dream bosses, no? I mean, you may not, but I will (aside from Absolute Radiance, that boss is pathetic and doesn't need to exist at all, it's really just lazy game design at this point).
Here is *my personal* ranking:
10. *Paintmaster Sheo* (first try)
A boss that is _way too easy_ to even be considered a boss, honestly. I don't think I ever needed to heal in this fight: I lost like 2 points of health.
9. *Brothers Oro & Mato* (first try)
A boss that is good but easy. Unlike Watcher Knights, they don't gang up on you, which is fantastic, but it also makes them significantly easier. To the point where I was able to beat them rather easily on my first try.
8. *Lost Kin* (first try)
I have _absolutely no idea_ how and why people have troubles with this boss. Like, sure, it's movements are erratic and infected balloons are a nuisance, but that is only if you are a lower than average player. It's moves become, very quickly, predictable and it is incredibly easy to just bully the vessel into submission of constant staggers. And the infected balloons die in one hit, so you really just have to deal with them in time.
7. *White Defender* (first try)
Another really easy boss, only poses a threat in his Zeal (it's called that on the Wiki) phase when he starts thrashing around, but even then he is more than manageable. He is only higher than Lost Kin because you _can_ get cornered and you _can_ take a lot of damage during the Zeal if you panic. Also, sometimes his spikes get you simply because you happen to stand to close to him when he does them.
6. *Soul Tyrant* (1 death)
He can overwhelm you with impressive speed, which is why he is higher than everyone else. He only deals one damage per hit though, so he still is easy. Notably the first Dream Boss I fought and the first one I died to.
5. *Grey Prince Zote (3 deaths)
Really don't see the problem here. Zote killed me a few times because I was getting used to his mechanics (which do possess a rather significant amount of RNG in them, which automatically makes the boss harder _and_ worse) and because of his stupid walk. Really, I've been hit by his walking more than by anything else!
4. *Great Nailsage Sly* (5 deaths)
Second phase was really hard to deal with for whatever reason.
3. *Failed Champion* (8 deaths)
Bullshit boss. What makes Hollow Knight's bosses so fun is that you have to learn their movements in order to overcome them, and that's what makes the victory satisfying. The Failed Champion gives you *none* of that. Not only is about 90% or so of the fight decided by RNG, but you don't get soul from hitting him so you have very few opportunities to heal.
2. *Pure Vessel* (27 deaths)
What a great boss. The second hardest boss in the game. And may I note, the difference in difficulty between the Pure Vessel and the Nightmare King and the third hardest boss, the Radiance, is *humongous* . Like, actually humongous. Still, this boss is excellent because it is totally fair. You have to learn their patterns in order to achieve victory and there is very little randomness involved.
1. *Nightmare King Grimm* (35 deaths)
Best boss in the game. Hardest boss in the game. Ah yes, the Nightmare King. I spent quite a few minutes thinking about whether or not to put the Pure Vessel above him (though I certainly found NKG more difficult, most of the community appears to think otherwise), I still think this guy is the hardest boss. Same as the Pure Vessel, you cannot cheese him, you cannot find any easy way around him. And he is absolutely fair, forcing you to learn his attacks perfectly.
I didn’t count the godhome bosses as dream bosses ONLY because this video was meant to be for someone looking to get essence. After I got the dream nail I wanted to get Essence easily and wanted to know which dream boss was the easiest.
The paint master is the easiest for sure. I had a little trouble with the brothers. I still haven’t made it through the 3rd pantheon to fight Sly (or pure vessel) 😅🤫
Pure Vessel for me is better than NKG because it changes the way you think.
To defeat NKG you just need to dodge his Pufferfish attack (that was hard but when I learned the pattern I never died to it), his air-ground and ground-aur attacks. When he throws firebats, just shadow-dash through the first one and double-jump above the fourth - then attack without risk. When he does fire pillars, just wait a little and move a little so pillars don't damage you. And you can damage him. Spike attack is the best time to heal.
However, to defeat Pure Vessel you should just think in a different way. When he performs an attack, you should dash TOWARDS him, even if you know your dash is not long enough to do it safely. You must not retreat (unless it is the focus attack), but jump into the battle and then his attacks will mostly go through you so you won't get damaged. Unless it is the focus attack (seriously, it killed me like 5 times because I was mid-air and couldn't dash away).

As to NKG his pufferfish attack has never got me. the rest of his attacks though cannot say the same.... Which I know some will say but he is predictable and is easy... and you are right his moves are predictable... but for some reason he has and does kick my butt everytime lol
There is little room for error and with the 2 mask penalty for getting hit is it easy to get flustered

Why does everyone think soul tyrant is hard. I killed him 1st try. Otherwise, pretty good list.
He can be fairly quick and the way the projectiles spin around his body can be a bit confusing at first. At least that’s what I thought.

I know this video is a bit old, but I would recommend replacing quick strike with quick focus or shaman stone. As quick strike only lets you attack faster, which isn’t really that useful against Grimm as he is constantly teleporting. At best, you could maybe get an extra hit in after his fire bats attack.
There is more than one answer to the fight as different people have different play styles. Good suggestion though

Quick tip for the failed champion:
once u knock him down jump behind him and hit his armor (not the head) this resets the staggertime, basically allowing u to fill ur soul/heal back to full .. all u need to do is jump behind him hit the armor then dreamnail/heal quick hit on the armor again and repeat .. once ur back in fighting condition just hit the head and continue the fight.. if u use a shaman stone once he is up shoot 5 spells and hes back down in staggermode, repeat the whole process 3 times and u will win without any trouble at all

For dream bosses in general and especially NKG, try using the blue charms that give you extra health (Lifeblood Core and Joni's blessing are the 2 best) You won't have much window to heal during these fights anyway so take the extra health.
i just got into hollow knight this month and beat NKG last night, took me nearly 2 hours LOL what a fight though, favorite in the whole game. The music, the speed, the atmosphere. 10/10
A little tip for Grimm is when he does the attack and go up dash away and not on him and attack, you always will be in a safe spot when the fire goes down on you
I defeat the White defender and the soul tyran at one attempt, but I spent like 3 hours to defeat the failled champion.
Failed champion is tough with that 2x damage
Nightmare King Grimm is very mechanical once you figure out a) that every one of his attacks has a very distinct tell and b) to only move when Grimm makes you.

@@RelyeaGaming I think I might've actually beat that guy in one attempt, maybe two. I don't know how or what charms I used. I should really have paid more attention to my charms used when I beat bosses. I beat a few first go & surprised the heck out of myself. 🤣

For Grimm, get his moves down, look for gaps, hit when ever you can, and he becomes fun after that! Even to this day I fight him for the fun of it

Tips for nkg. Use sharp shadow, and when u dash through his upper cut into the fireballs, stand still after the dash. If the timing is right, then you will never be hit by the fireballs and it is possible to get a heal off. I also used fast focus here to get heals off and it worked great for me. Gl
Have you all noticed that nightmare king Grimm is slightly bigger than Grimm, but he also has different personalities, as Grimm is benevolent, but nightmare king is malevolent
While I do agree nkg is much harder than zote, at least it’s predictable. You see nkg do something and you know how to react but with zote it’s so rng
If anyone is having trouble with failed champion you can cheese the whole thing with weversong and just hold crystal dash in the top left corner just pop down when his head is exposed and that’s it. (Hope this helps!)
Tip for NKG. The corners, I've found to be the safest spots for this fight. It makes his uppercut attack a lot more confined. It makes his spike attack more obvious. His fire bats attack can be avoided by jumping over the first one and letting the second low one fly over you. Your fire pillar technique was perfect though.

For failed champion I'd suggest having shade cloak and equipping the sharp shadow and dash master charms on to do damage(x1. 5 nail damage) by dashing through the boss, for when he jumps back I actually run to him and dashed through to his other side. It allows me to avoid having to deal with the shock waves and always me attack from his other side while he's still in his animation
My favorite Dream Bosses is Failed Champion, Lost Kin, and White Defender.
I actually really like the Maggots and the fact that one of them was brave enough to try and protect his siblings

Personally I found Lost Kin much easier than Failed Champion. I also don't know why you'd use the Soul Catcher charm for Failed Champion. Your nail attacks don't build soul on him (except for the head which is very minimal). Failed Champion has constant pressure on you, many attacks do 2 masks of damage and you constantly have the falling rocks to avoid.

What I use for failed champion is fragile/unbreaking strength, quick slash, mark of pride, and sharp shadow. As soon as he jumps in, just keep smacking him, and do as the video tells you about the jumping part, after you get him vulnerable and stuff, just keep hitting him, even when he hops to the middle to make rocks fall from the sky. This can skip the rocks and you can repeat it until he ded

This game still surprises me with how much hidden content it has. I thought beating some of the spirit warriors to gain essence was a challenge, but damn.
