Awaiting the arrival of some I already purchase off Amazon, after a 'turtle incident' on a church roof, that resulted in the drone sitting upside on said roof for a full night, in the rain. The drone is now fully functional after some drying out, just waiting on the props to arrive today. Great and simple video. Thanks.
It seems to be much easier with the post mini 2's because of the collar on the motors to align the props and hold them in place while you screw them in, my mini 2 se doesn't have them and I always change both props on any arm because IMO at the speed they are turning if the leading edge of one prop strikes something it's safe to assume that the other has even though it might not (yet) show signs of any damage. I bought a 5" Phillips #0 screwdriver, and it works very well.
Are the propellers supposed to have a little bit of give when moving up and down because I noticed when I tap on the propellers, they have a little bit of wiggle not a lot
Clean, smooth leading and trailing edges ensure your flight configuration. I just changed mine out for the second time. The first time was a result of rooky operator error. The second, just maintenance. You will be surprised how much attrition occurs simply from tiny blades of grass. I am opting for hand launching more and more often now. I think too that the rubber tips are prone to damage simply from stowing in a case and the rubbing and touching that occur when you prep it or fold it. The best way to maintain them would be to never fold them but a little unrealistic for the majority of people.
Ordered the exact same set due to your recommendation after some minor curb incident with my props. Cannot tell you how much easier it is to change them compared with the DJI provided one. Best regards to you, you really saved nerves.
I just got some airscrew props and found your video since I wasn't sure how hard to turn the prop screws. Mine are tightern' the hinges of hell. Do you have an opinion on the airscrew props and whether, in your experience, they are worth bothering with? And thanks for sharing!
I haven't seen any 3rd party options for better screws, seems like the metal is too soft, bin the screwdriver that comes with the drone and use a good screw driver makes a huge difference.
@@JTechWP Amazing thanks man, really appreciate it. I've run into a situation today where I just bought a better screwdriver and it helped immensely, but 3 of the 8 screws aren't seating all the way. Any ideas why that would be (I tried several different screws, the problem appears to be inherent to where the screw threads in)?
Excellent guide. Loved it, subbed it! Do you have a prop manufacturer preference? I have seen some advertised as quiter or made of lighter materials but dont know if its BS.
I did not mean the screws yep tight is standard i mean the movement in the prop yes it has to spin freely but up down movement .eg my new air screw master props feel like they move very freely at the spindle point .Thanks
If I damage only one propeller, do I need to change the pair? I read in the DJI instrctions do not mix propellers from different sets. Thank you for this very useful tutorial.
Hi Rohit, you could try putting an elastic band over the screw, push down hard with the screw driver, that may give it more grip then replace with a new screw.
@@JTechWP Thx for replying. I've a decent screwdriver but I think the screws have already been rounded a bit by the old one and i didn't even struggle with it much cos i feared this would happen. Anything i can do?
It's a really handy set, works great on mini 3 props, good for taking laptops and computers apart too. Surprised how much I use it. Removing Hard drives and fitting SSDs in clients' laptops. Fixing printers. Ideal if you're into tech :)
I find the screws rather small/fiddley with my eyesight/glasses and hand size; I wouldn't want to replace propellors in the field. For ease/speed , and to avoid a screw cross thread , I first place a screw in the propellor, hold it there with the screwdriver while lowering the whole assembly (vertically) onto the motor shaft and then tighten.
The screw driver that comes with the drone is bad. If you can get a better screwdriver 🪛 it makes a big difference. I tried with the Dji screwdriver and it started stripping the screw head
No freaking way the screwing is that easy. WHATTT . I stripped 3 screws and spent 6 hours trying to figure out a way to get them off. i tried everything
The screws were tightened by DJI in the factory far too tight. I just tried to unscrew with the supplied screwdriver and it's useless. Why couldn't DJI use the same method they had on the original Mavic Pro, where you didn't even need a screwdriver.
They were on very tight because dji uses thread locker so the screws don’t back out. And its becoming common knowledge that you would never use the screw driver that dji sends. i think even had a rep say the same thing.
Mine had locktite on them, if they are proper stuck you could use a hair dryer and apply some heat to loosen them up. Having the right screw driver makes all the difference
Okay but you didn’t tell us where to get new props…. And if you used the same screws if they weren’t damaged or used aftermarket screws you should use loctite/thread locker blue/medium.
The piece of crap screwdriver provided by DJI is stripping the propeller screws. I hope DJI addresses this soon or many customers will be forced to return their units for repair to remove the propeller screws that are either stripped or stuck. It shouldn't be this difficult since the propellers will have to be frequently replaced.
For us older people what helped me was a bright light the one I used was the one that you wear.around your head BIG help
Glad it helped
Thank You, this is the goofiest thing about this drone, its not too easy to replace these.
The right screw driver helps :)

Always keep a spare set of props in your flight case :)

Changing both props is good practice, they are pretty cheap to replace and its better than risking the drone falling from the sky :)

Yes, there is some flex in the propellors
Man these things are a pain to replace.
yeah, the dji screw driver is so bad
I kind of fucked up the whole thing.
it's impossible to get the new screws to sit flush in the prop...screws that came with the spare blades in my dji package

@@JTechWP Indeed it is, yet you wonder how bad can you fail with a screw driver? 🤦
What exactly is the scew driver tip needed? Philips? Cross-point etc., ?
Philips 2.0 is what I use

I just use the standard props that came with it. Waiting to see if anyone manufacturers Toroidal propellors that will be a game changer
Thankyou most helpful video
Most welcome 😊
Why do these screws strip so easily? Is there a more robust replacement option for the screw itself, i.e., just something of higher quality?

@@JasonActualization the link in the description is the one i use, fits perfect, you could try applying heat with a hair dryer too.
Which screwdriver head did you use because that’s the important part??
Do one sizes fit all?
2.0 works really well, thats the standard size for props on the mini 3 pro
Can you remove the metal covering on the motor??
I'd send it off to DJI for that
My props had blue locktite on them from the factory. The new screws don't have that.
I can't get the screws off of two of my motors....
Hi Brandon, are you using the Dji screw driver ?
@@JTechWP yep. That useless tiny little grey one . I learned my lesson there.
Great video. Can you tell us which screwdriver in the set did you use? Can you tell us as the little heads have names

I use the standard DJI props they work perfect
Thanks for this. It is my understanding that when you change the props you have to change the screws too. This is according to DJI. Is that the case?
Changing the screws is recommended, the old ones could potentially have cracks after a crash / damage
Very helpful video, Jon. What size screwdriver do you use? Also, it would be great to see more "How to videos on your channel". Thank you.
2.0 Philips head "Deyard" filming lots of new content. Any requests ?
Buy a wiha 8pc philips/flat head set you wont regret it! I own two and i use them for all these little screws.
when you screw the new props back on should they have a free movement feel eg screw is fully down but they are quite lose around the spindle center ??
my screws were tight after adding the new screw

How many cost for four propeller sir ?
How can I get a stripped screw off of My mini 3 pro propeller?

@@JTechWP Ok wil try that thank you.
Going to put the new screw on and i get about a full turn and it starts to get tight. Normal?
Its a few turns, check you didnt cross thread it

same
It does not take a few munutes when the come factory tight..my hand are hurting, and i managed to remove 1 in an hour!
having the right screw driver and a bigger handle gives you more leverage. Best place for the included one is the bin.
