I’m sharing this with my coworkers! We’re based in the US, but our architecture office is starting to get more and more involved and are always tackling problems/creating new standards! Thanks!
I am a contractor here in the United States Building mostly schools and hospitals. When you speak of design review are you focused with cost review through the various stages of design, or Code Compliance or what we call constructability review, where we are looking for the practical means and methods by which a building will actually be put together?
@@factsdontcareaboutyourfeel4638 I figured as much. Only an American would interject race into a professional discussion. It just shows that our country has a lot of healing to do. I'm not rich, however I'm a well-educated and well trained construction management professional. That however does not dismiss the innate disparities in our country for some of its population. There has been systematic discrimination and oppression of people of color for 400 years. This disparity will not go away buy a snap of the finger and hoping that it no longer exists. Let me use a construction analogy. When trying to build a building it doesn't matter how the soil became what it is. All that matters is that the soil can carry the weight of the structure we intend to build. If the soil is not suitable we have to remediate the soil to bring it up to par. We as a country have to reach down and help those who need help to achieve the American dream. Other than that we will always have a nation built on a foundation that is failing. Peace and blessings to you
Yes, Bloodlust v2 - this channel is seriously becoming my favorite. Beautifully purposed, written and presented. Top class info and very engaging. And I'm not a contractor- but it's just fascinating! Thanks so much for posting.
And here i was thinking youtube is mostly just for fun or educational purposes. You are using it for something very different and productive. It's quite inspiring!
Spectacular content. It's awesome to see a group of competitors come together to cut the problem down and attack it together. This isn't a zero sum problem and this type of thinking is what's going to bring the planet roaring into the next century. Amazing job organizing this.
This is cool. would like the UK to take their construction industry to new heights. Architects and Civil engineers do not have to stick with only what's proven as those were once new frontiers back in their days. More videos along these lines with exemplary structures are most welcome.
I really like this new format, maybe this could be the construction version of Question Time. Because this format is fresh and utilising the medium of UA-cam to positively impact and educate those that are interested! Moe of this please! Well do be guys, the B1M is great to watch from someone who is interested in what the future may hold for this sector!
This really has me thinking.. I work in a wastewater treatment plant as an operator. The plant is only two years old, however over half the tanks that were added through several plant upgrades were reused and incorporated into the new plant. Didn't work there while they were building it, but it really has me wondering if this system or a similar system was used while building the new plant around the existing, fully operational old plant. I'll have to ask my boss and see if we can sit down with the engineers who designed the plant to see what they think.
I am a computer scientist. I would love to see an entire video with your thoughts on digital twins of buildings. What are they exactly? What benefits do they offer? What is the current state of their use in the world? What should we expect in the future?
Great video, I love people, who know what they are talking about, talking about their work. But a quick introduction, that frames the conversation more would be appreciated by viewers like me who working in this area.
I'm sure there's only 2 building regulations in London - Mind the underground services - Try not to block the view of St Paul's Cathedral (at certain designated angles) Other than that as high and as ugly as you like.
We need the construction industry worldwide to start working much more like general manufacturing. What I mean is that we need to get our products, building, completed quickly and efficiently and safely. We need to get everyone on the BIM mindset just like 99.9% have moved away from hand produced drawings to CAD of some form or another. Technology moves forward so quickly if your firm isn't looking ahead it will get left behind before it knows it has to catch up. Here in the UK we need much better design standards across companies and sectors so we can make sure that the work we do is done efficiently and done the very best we can do. I'm looking forward to seeing how things develop in the next 5 to 10 years.
The increase in aggregate efficiency of material use easily justifies the large scale adoption of industry wide standards through digital tools. If each building can save a small percentage of material and spend less time on site we'd see a faster route to more sustainable building practices and higher quality products. Time to drive home sustainable building initiatives worldwide... Lets not overlook the impact our industry has on the environment, built or otherwise.
PostScript PDF ISO24517 is not BIM Level 2 future proof, Dwfx/XPS ISO/IEC 29500-2:2008 or BIM360 ThreeJS is. Also the format needs LCD sizes and not papersizes, dynamic scaling text, color lines and a dark background for eyehealth. Elements needs metadata www.bimvr.nl/f2d3 for collaboration.
While I do enjoy "Real talk" style podcasts and understand that Standards are important espically for electronics. Design is as much about personal tastes as it is local cultures. having a "Design Standard" might have buildings turn into a monoculture feature and will really suck.
To clarify, it’s a “design review standard” - so a standard way of reviewing design information, not a standard on the actual design itself. That’s covered by things like building regulations and planning legislation.
Hey Guys! I enjoy your videos! I think you need to do a video about the deepest metro in the world in Kiev. Well, they have the deepest metro station in the world. Also, it would be great to do a video on The Motherland Monument in Kiev which is taller than Statue of Liberty and it does not get as much attention as others. Thanks!
I love London, but im not at all a fan of its skyline. Some buildings are just unfortunately ugly, im hoping they build better skyscrapers and towers that cover some monstrosities- im looking at you 20 Fenchurch.
I wish our government didn't sell out our capital to ridiculous high rise corporate palaces. We have a beautiful, historic city and we are burying it deep beneath steel and glass.
You need to change your archaic mindset. Though history is important but we can't continue to live in the past. We have to give modernization a chance too.
@@davetv4705 but all the wrong buildings are dominating the skyline. Public buildings should be the focus. Not some stuck up high rise full of banks and Chinese land grabbers.
Fully agree with you. History and heritage is a lot more valuable than some new boring towers. I wish times will return when most impressive and beautiful buildings were for public services.
I'm all for modern buildings and new feats of architecture. Do that somewhere where there isn't heritage. Glass towers shouldn't dominate a skyline in a city like London.
@@SD-tj5dh I always wonder is it really that hard to build taller buildings further away from historical city centre where no limitations exist. Also it is a lot more interesting to have two separate centres modern and old.
If history is a teacher, standardization in the digital landscape almost always leads to greater outcomes. Just look at the adoption of responsive websites after Ecmascript or the growth of the internet after the IEEE standards for TCP/IP. Once digital design is majority adopted and open source communities begin to bloom, I would expect unprecedented growth in productivity, utilization and democratization of architecture all resting firmly on the keystone of standardization.
I like the direction in which this channel is moving
