These BIG two Japanese players and the bidding war.. is GREAT for baseball. Baseball NEEDED a renaissance.. and people are talking BASEBALL during NFL crunch time / playoff time. THIS IS AWESOME.. kids will be signing up for little league more than ever and parents will be all in. !!! Love it..

Nah. Greed is ruining the game. No loyalty amongst players. I remember when Mike Piazza signed an earth shattering 7 year, $91 million deal in 1998.This was for an established superstar HOFer who would go down as the best hitter in franchise history and one of the top 50 hitters all time. Now, Taijuan Walker and Chris Bassitt are making a higher AAV. Dime a dozen #3 starters. And 300 million to rookies who've never played a game in the major leagues. And who pays for that is the family of 5 who has to pay $1,000 for a day at a the ballpark when you factor in tickets, parking, food for everyone, a couple souvenirs and a photo. Forget it. Baseball's best days peaked somewhere between the McGwire/Sosa race in 1998 and the 2000 WS. Every household in NYC had drawn the battle lines during the 2000 WS. Now, absolutely nobody I knows cares about baseball. Half the teams in the league can't even fill half their ballpark on a Sunday afternoon game

@@crispycruiser4654 The only thing I would say to that is, wait and see what happens because the money is most likely coming from advertising in Japan and the ballpark might not be as inflated as you would think. At least that’s my hope because I agree the money has to come from somewhere

End of the day its still up to the player where they want to go. Ohtani did that just to give the dodgers room to help around him. That didn't guarantee they'd get Yamamoto, just gave them a better chance.

Dodgers have money, winning tradition and Ohtani. This idea of playing in his shadow is silly. Ohtani is the sun that illuminates every Japanese player who will become his teammate. More specifically, the only free games (i.e. without paying MLB network international subscription) that will be broadcasted in Japan will be Dodgers' games for a foreseeable future. If Yamamoto had joined a team other than Dodgers, his only exposure in Japan would have been 30-second highlights every 6 days. Now he is a Dodger, not only all his starts will be closely viewed, but also the image of his chatting with his pal Shohei in the bench will be seen on Japanese TV every night. That pull had to be irresistible.

    • @BlueOrangeNY31

The hype will follow a player like that. If he went to Siberia, then Siberia would be must see baseball. Not every Japanese person wants to be together lol. In this situation, they were friends. But the notion that someone of the same nationality is an automatic get is a reach.

No extension for Burnes is fine.

The CBT is a joke. Rich teams pay poor teams like the As to suck even harder. Either have a hard cap or no cap. Make the rule no Cap to sign your own players but if you sign a free agent from another team you lose 1 of your 2 year minimum controlled players outside your protected 30 roster players or your next years highest available draft pick. Teams can spend what they want and poorer teams don't get paid off but can at least develop the next free agents to be and be a glorified minor league team that they are.
