I honestly thought I was the only one who actually targets these. Theres something oddly fun about exploring a small stream with an ultralight rod looking for big creek chubs.

@Jake Park yes there definitely are they live with the chubs but sometime the chubs are with bass but ALOT of times creek chubs are with trout unless the creek is 2ft thick
This is the first time anyone has ever weeded through bass to catch creek chubs
I do that a lot in the creek I sometimes fish the bass hardly fight but the creek chubs will give runs like big carp and pull some drag

Not true, in a creek i go to to catch bait for catfish, i use creek chubs for the bait, and in order to catch good bait, you have to weed through bass and sunfish to get the wanted bait.
I HATE catchiang Bass. I prefer bluegill fishing.

Grew up catfishing and perch fishing my whole life. Stopped fishing for a good bit of my early adult life. Got back into fishing about a year ago, but wanted to catch some new so I decided to try bass fishing. This has become my favorite fishing channel, hands down. We dont even have creek chub in north louisiana and somehow you make catching these baitfish interesting. Also help that you dont have that typical vlogger/youtube personality that most of them try to portray. They are fun to watch most the time, but alot of popular bass fishing channels are exactly the same. Same bibe and personality just a different face catching the fish. Your different. Refreshing to watch one of your videos..

Hey Brendan what I use to catch really big creek chubs is I catch a little one and then cut it into pieces and use it for bait to catch really big ones
I once went to a power dam like 3 miles from my house and I was using a Thomas buoyant and I caught a like 14-15 inch chub

If your estimates are corrects about the size you caught the biggest Creek Chub on record. The largest documented Chub is 12 inches and it currently holds the record.

I caught a 13" Creek Chub once but was told Creek Chubs dont really get that big, and it probably was a Fallfish.
I’ve got a creek by my house that I fish and it’s got a bunch of foot long creek chub. No one ever believes me.
When I was a kid I hung out at my local creek all the time but never saw any big ones…until one day, we saw two of them, they were probably spawning. They were at least 14” - I almost didn’t think they were real lol

I myself catch creekchubs in the creek in my back yard, some have reached 8-9 inches and I load them up and use them to catch catfish or literally anything that’ll bite them (which is literally everything) it’s super fun to harvest your own bait at home and go out and just catch more fish, plus if I’m ever bored I go catch some and throw them back

I think I might have caught a state record chub and didn't know it until after I uploaded the video. Im going back to see if I can get it again or a bigger one.
Fallfish are sweet too. They are basically creek chubs but their sides are all silvery, no stripe. They're more of a game fish imo because they're the top predator native to most of the big creeks and small rivers in their range. They're few and far between which makes it pretty exciting when you get one, they can get massive too.

I mainly bank fish, and I have gotten to a point to where I get excited when I find a tree laying in the water, especially bass fishing. 1 it's a great spot to fish around and also doubles as a very narrow, very sketchy dock. In creeks this can be critical for increasing your cast range. Luckily I've only fallen into a creek once from a log.
@@joshcross2831 Sketchy dock is right lol. In creeks I prefer to wade in the water. You will be surprised how many fish you can catch near your feet. Also while wading in the water makes a huge difference in angles. I've caught a lot of fish just from the change of angle of my retrieval.
When fishing for chub use long neck hooks and big grasshopers u dont need to use float bc they float and ur going to se them take it, i recomwnd using a float and u can try corn magots smal mesp lures like 0 or 1 depend on the depth. I fish for eu chub wich grows much biger my pg is 3 kg pryty big for a chub.
about 10 maybe 11"if we stretched it ,we used to slay them that size when we were kids. Even then we learned the each whole would only hold up to a dozen chubs the rest were other types of minnows. always did best when you could see bottom as the chubs like to hide under rocks with the crawdads. Don`t forget you can eat those creek chubs.
There's a creek about .75 miles away from my house that used to be home to some monstrous creek chubs (around 10 inches on average). But after a lot of floods, this year's drought, and a booming pike population, I haven't found much for baitfish at this creek aside from bullheads. Better times 2 years ago. Better times.
My PB creek chub is a 9.84 inch chub flight in about 2 inch deep water it was great. I love fishing my small local creeks that only get about 2 ft deep with an ice fishing rod using either a very small spinner or a very small crappie tube on a light weighted hook with a split shot about 6 inches above so I can cast

I would LOVE to see you produce a video where you’re fly fishing for creek chub. The flies I use to catch these on my home waters is a popper/dropper combo with a black ant fly on the dropper. The popper rings the dinner bell, and the creek chub just go after the black ant fly. 😇

Rock bass, Green Sunfish P.B would be great for me since I'm a creek fisherman and I catch some unbelievable Sunfish, Kentucky is probably the best place for wade fisherman thanks for all your advice and awesome videos!

I live on a creek and there’s a pool where tons of chubs live. They are basically my pets because I feed them. I use the minnows to feed my turtle and my pb from there is 9.5 inches

Bellaire Lake CO has huge chubs. Most people catch them by accident trout fishing but if you go to the deeper end and drop a worm straight down from the rock edge you will consistently catch ones this big and some bigger. They actually aren't bad smoked

my pb, here in Wyoming is a 10 inch chub. there is this creek up north of cheyenne and tossing in a little worm and splitshot and reeling it in slowly seems to do the job. i even hooked up to a nice brook trout! however, i dont know the state record
I’ve been fishing this honey hole that’s filled with chubs and sunfish I’ve caught 3 chubs that I thought were bass when I was pulling them in lol there at least 8 or 9 inches or so
I catch creek chubs all the time when i fish at a bridge I live near and i don't mind it honestly some can out up a pretty good fight and can be a challenge to catch I've had some grab my bait and leave and some bite and let go and the others I've of course caught
What are the black spots / micro worms in the fish? Can they be eaten? I find many chubs among other fish with these tiny black spots.
I went to a very small creek/ mini pond and it's about 5 feet deep I caught 6 creek chub in a hour and took my lil brother who has never went creek fishing he caught a nice 4 inch creek chub

I don’t think rods are any worse, I think it’s just that the strongest ones are what survived that long! I’m sure people will say the same thing in another 50 years about current rods

See you have to go into mountain streams during their spawn and you have the possibility of a large male chub possibly 12” or more
my buddys pb chub is 11 inches no joke! mine is only 9 or 10 incher both out of our creek
The problem is when you always catch a type offish and then decide to want to catch it you can’t, sort of when you are catching tons of fish and say one more and then they stop biting
