Susannah Walker is so charming! I love your examination of the hair and dress styles of the period in which the real Miss Walker stitched this, relating the fashion of the day to her work. Thank you for reproducing this lovely sampler.
Another wonderful video Jacob. I do so love knowing the back story behind the needlework and such a shame as you mentioned that there were just so many Susannahs living at the time to be able to identify her. Nevertheless, a beautiful piece of history and I am off to have a quick peek at your pattern although I need to really finish up Jane Austen before I tackle another one. Cheers.
Thank you Melanie! Yes, she had a popular name and without any little hints (family initials or a place of residence or a school) it is pretty much impossible to find her. I just bought another sampler this weekend and that girl stitched "Bath" on the sampler, and with the year, the rather unique name, I have already found who she was, where she lived, and that her church was where Jane Austen's parents married! All in all rather unique together with this also being a really charming sampler. I hope to chart that one some time in 2021... :D

Such great comments about the period this sampler was stitched in - I really enjoy hearing about the history of samplers. But.... you really tempt me with all of your wonderful work. ❤️ 😊 👍
What a delightful video! Thank you for including all those photographs. I love learning about fashion history and seeing all those elegant ladies that Susannah was emulating was a very nice touch. Happy stitching! ~Angela
Thank you so much Angela - I would love to be able to get an actual glimpse of little Susannah. What is interesting to me is that she could have been very poor herself, or actually have been quite the lady - a lot of samplers that were made to study don't really betray that too much (unless it's worked with gold and silk, in which case she would've been very rich ;)). But my guess is that she might have been somewhere in the lower middle class, and that these ladies were what she fancied herself to be :)
Thank you so much for sharing her with us...the Sampler looks amazing and that house is outstanding....love the checked shirt you had on to match...take care and be safe and Merry Christmas

Thank you for sharing this delightful sampler with us. I smile when I look at it, not only because of the endearing elements Susannah has included, but also because I can imagine her spirit. I teach young children and I feel for those exuberant and passionate girls whose personality was tamed to fit into the acceptable behaviours of the time. I’d like to believe that she was able to show her self freely in her art. Please continue to add historical references, it opens the door to a life of girls and women who were our ancestors. Thank you for showing us that you too make mistakes when stitching, it brings you closer to your audience! I am excited to be stitching Susannah, wondering where she sat and stitched, how was she feeling that day, and hopefully honouring her by stitching with a smile on my face. Thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge with us through your channel. Merry Christmas.
Thank you so much for your words. I really love doing these videos, and there will be more of these coming soon! The research into the samplers and bringing the samplers to live is what really appeals to me. I've got a couple of episodes planned (but more research is required) but I am so excited to share those stories with you all in the new year! :) A very merry Christmas and all the best wishes for the new year!

Tnank you for sharing the story behind this wonderful sampler. Love the composition, colors and the verse. I guess, all samplers with red houses just catch my eye immediately☺ Right now I'm stitching John Foster 1885. Oh, and Happy Christmas, Jacob🎉😇🎅⛄
Thank you so much Olga! That sampler sounds lovely - I saw that it's A. John Foster - I guess it was a girl with a boys middle name who stitched this? Merry Christmas!
@@ModernFolkEmbroidery John Foster is a reproduction sampler by Historic Stitches. In description they say "his sampler", I guess that means that it was stitched by man. I didn't even think about the middle name, before you mentioned that🤔☺
@@olgasm4386 Interesting! As the initial is A, John could've been a middle name (that sometimes happened). In Scotland, there's a lot of Christian's (all girls) and there's a girl whose sampler I'm researching whose brother was called Florence! That's why I was curious. I'm sure Historic Stitches did their research though! :D
I loved hearing all of the background information about the time and the fashions of the era in which this little girl stitched her sampler. It really made her come alive for me. Thank you for all of the effort you went to to add all of the photos. That really made me appreciate the sampler even more. I love that you leave your errors...me too! Thank you for the hair and dress style information, well done. Enjoy the Holidays and wishes for a Happy New Year.
Thank you Mary! Yea - in a traditional sampler I don't mind mistakes if I can get away with them. Whether that chimney is 7 or 6 crosses high makes no real difference - and on traditional samplers there's usually quite a bit of space around elements so if it's off by a cross... I don't mind too much :P. Happy holidays and all the best wishes for the new year!
Jacob, thank you for your explanation on fashion history. That was interesting. You definitely have an eye for detail! I appreciate that. Have a Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you! I so enjoyed your episode and will go back and watch the others so I am all caught up. Thank you for sharing your knowledge that gives us more insight into the time frame of the sampler. I am newer to antique samplers and I had honestly never noticed the fashion of the figures stitched. My eyes have always been drawn right to the houses. Now I know a little more. All the best to you and yours in 2021.
Hello again Jacob! Your stitching is beautiful and you got so far on that house in such a short time. Facinating facts about the sampler. I do enjoy your little chats and the details.

Thank you Sue - that's so wonderful to hear! She really is a beauty - there's something about her that feels really unique and personal. I'm super happy with her!
This is one fine day …the release of Susannah Walker and a video visit …thank you, thank you! Had to have her, so the sequence started-purchased, downloaded and kitting. Speaking of the latter, I’m also kitting the 2021 SAL (with Retors du Nord blues 😊), although could you please comment relative to the linen? It appears on screen to be Café au Lait, maybe Cream, or Natural Raw. The "Fryske Sûkerbôle" mentioned in your email notification sounds wonderful as well as the rest and relaxation. Simple pleasures are the best. What a way to be home for Christmas! All good wishes!
Thank you Lori! My linen was hand dyed, with tea. Cafe au Lait comes quite close to it, and I think with blues that might be a really beautiful combination! :) The Fryske Sûkerbôle was a hit and we devoured the thing over the holidays - just finished the last two slices :D. Definitely recommended if you want to indulge a bit! All the best wishes to you and yours!
@@ModernFolkEmbroidery Many thanks, Jacob! Imagined that is what you might say relative to the linen and already ordered a full fat quarter of Zweigart’s Café au Lait. Rejoice! I'm so glad to hear that Avril - thank you!
I am so excited for this sampler, my great great grandfather was a Walker who’s family immigrated to America from England.
Thank you Tracie! There were quite a few Walkers, but who knows, maybe she was related! :)
It's lovely! I love your sweater vest and it's coordination to the sampler, lol! Thanks so much for showing!!!!
Thank you! All in honour of Susannah :D.
Happy holidays to you and keep your videos coming...very interesting!
Thank you so much - and the best wishes to you and yours too! :)
Wonderful ancien pattern and looking for your tutorial on tea dying. I loved your reserch on eighteenth century's clothes So much learnt about it. Keep on going. Looking for your next flosstube. Merry Xmas
Thank you so much Ana - Merry Christmas!
I just love how much information you pass along to us during your flosstubes. You are so knowledgable and I want to thank you for all of your amazing work! I am going to love stitching this beautiful sampler (as well as the other ones I am already stitching of yours lol!!) Happy Holidays Jacob!!
Thank you so much Lissa - and happy holidays to you and yours! :)
Such great news! I really loved the fashion references you found. it's a bit of a passion for me. Susannah's girls are adorable with their checked dresses and red cheeks. I have so many projects going right now but this will definitely be added to the wip parade in 2021! Have a very merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year!!
Thank you Katherine! It is so fascinating to do research and to try and find image to illustrate these little chats with. All the very best wishes to you and yours!
@@ModernFolkEmbroidery Florence...hm🤔☺
Who knows, maybe it is a kind of changed from Florentius (Latin)?
I loved hearing all of the background information about the time and the fashions of the era in which this little girl stitched her sampler. It really made her come alive for me. Thank you for all of the effort you went to to add all of the photos. That really made me appreciate the sampler even more. Have a very Merry Christmas and I know we all look forward to seeing your next video.
Thank you so much - so glad you enjoyed it! I find doing these research videos a lot of fun and more are coming for sure! :D
Very enjoyable. I love the little bits of history that you throw in. Thank you and have a wonderful Christmas.
Thank you - and all the best wishes to you and yours!
I enjoyed learning about the historical aspects of the sampler. Keep the videos coming.
Thank you Jocelyn! Very excited to be making many more in the new year! :D
thank you for another wonderful video!
Thank you!
I love this sampler and look forward to stitching it. Thank you for your videos. I enjoy watching you and admire everything behind you. I just finished your chart “Agnus Dei” and will be framing it soon after the new year. I do believe you have become my favorite sampler stitcher. I look forward to following you in the new year. Merry Christmas Jacob.
Thank you so much Melissa! I really loved stitching the Agnus Dei one - and will be sharing that one in an upcoming video I think! Merry Christmas and all the best wishes for the new year! :)
Jacob, your channel is the most wonderful Christmas gift for the global cross-stitching community! Happy holidays to you and your family! 🎆
Aw thank you so much! Happy holidays to you too! :D
This is fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Aya!
Jacob, thank you for your explanation on fashion history. That was interesting. You definitely have an eye for detail! I appreciate that. Have a Merry Christmas!
Thank you Connie! Merry Christmas!
Happy Christmas Jacob, Thank you for another interesting video! I just purchased beautiful Susannah Walker and plan to start her on New Year's day. I might not be able to wait that long. Thank you also for quickly sending me the corrections. Looking forward to more of your videos in the new year. Happy stitching, Suzette
Thank you so much - and you're very welcome. :D Merry Christmas!
Just purchased it, love your color choices. Thank you for the interesting fashion history I really enjoyed it. Happy Holidays!
Thank you so much Barb - and all the best wishes to you and yours!
Happy Christmas 🎄
Thank you Sandra - and to you!!
Thank you for sharing this with us. I really enjoyed the fashion history lesson as well. Hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Thank you Kathy - and all the best wishes to you and yours!
Thank you Vivian - glad you enjoyed it and hope you had a lovely holiday period! :)
Hello again Jacob! Your stitching is beautiful and you got so far on that house in such a short time. Facinating facts about the sampler. I do enjoy your little chats and the details.
Thank you Tammy! Finishing the home today - it's been full-time stitching before Christmas so I would have something to show and test colours! I do hope to make a start on the ladies today... :D
Thank you for the photos of fashion and hair styles of the time period Suzanna's Sampler was stitched. It adds a lot to the appreciation of the motifs and patterns of the era. Your work on your sampler looks lovely. I look forward to stitching Suzanna myself. Happy Christmas.
Thank you Darlene! Happy Christmas!
What a wonderful sampler and great information! Looking forward to your hem stitch tutorial (I can never turn the corners right) and the tea dye tutorial also!
Thank you! I'm looking forward doing these tutorials hopefully very soon! :)
Thank you I really enjoyed this video and I just got my sampler God bless
Thank you so much for your support! :D
It is a lovely sampler. Thank you for the history around its creation. It brings even more life to it. Merry Christmas 🎄!
Thank you Anne! Merry Christmas to you too!
🤗 Thank you Jacob for the history lesson surrounding this sampler, it was very interesting! I hope you have a Merry Christmas!🎄
Thank you Carlene - glad you enjoyed it! A very merry Christmas to you and yours!
I do enjoy your sessions, I love the history you bring into them and I love the pattern.
Thank you Frances! :)
Though I enjoy looking at samplers, they are not my favorite stitches. I may make an exception with this sampler. It's the first I really love. Thank you for all your work and information.
Rejoice! The Retors du Nord still remains in the postal pipeline, although the sun, moon and stars should align to make a January start on ‘The Fruits of Plenty,’ even if not on the 1st. Here’s to a happy, healthy, and abundant 2021!
Another great video Jacob.I love your style and am looking forward to starting the Little Bird Quaker sampler in the new year.Thank you for answering my questions about your favourite red and blue colours. Your videos are so inspiring! Merry Christmas!
Thank you Kelly - glad you enjoyed it! Yes, 3777 is my very favourite and I was quite pleased it is a match for this house as well! I have quite a few 12 boxes of 3777 at home... :D. Merry Christmas!
And I am so excited! I will finish up PFW 1858 and make this my Christmas stitch. I love it!
Thank you Anne! I still haven't finished PFW myself - will do that in the new year though! :D
wonderful, really enjoy your videos.
Thank you Martha! :)
Lovely design. Happy new year
Thank you Lynette - and to you as well!
I’m so excited you have this charted and I’m going to purchase this for me for Christmas! Thank you so much!!💕Michele
Thank you Michele! :D
