European farmers burn tires, protest at EU ministers meeting: "We don't make a living"

- European farmers dumped tires on the streets of Brussels before setting them on fire on Monday, as they protested against competition from cheap food imports, excessive environmental rules and subsidies favouring large firms. Around 100 tractors were parked around the European Union (EU) institutions' headquarters ahead of planned speeches, a short distance from where agricultural ministers were meeting.
"We're here again in Brussels today as farmers because the European Union is not listening to our demands. Our demands are for fair revenue. We don't make a living out of our work. We produce the food and we don't make a living. Why is that?” French farmer Morgan Ody asked.
At the conclusion of the bloc's agriculture ministers gathering, Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister David Clarinval said that the EU’s executive commission needs to present more ambitious proposals to reduce farmers' concerns.
Meanwhile in Spain, farmers from across the country drove their tractors to the European Parliament Office in Madrid, passing by the Ministry of Agriculture. Demonstrations have been taking place for weeks in European countries including Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Italy and Greece, as farmers call for better income and less bureaucracy.

It is not normal to pay the prices from anywhere you shop, also for gas or hydro . We get a lot of imported fruits and veggies here in Canada - Toronto - and the quality of most imports of is sub-par. It has to be picked early for transit and grown under circumstances that are unknown to us.
Go to a produce hub and get a clue.
The fruits must be collected raw so that they do not spoil during transport.

Those selfish farmers. They think they deserve to be paid a living wage for feeding the people. Won't someone please think of the corporations? It would be wrong to sacrifice the profits of huge companies so that poorer people and smaller businesses can survive.
We the people have the power. Getting people to stick together for a common cause can be a problem. Country or even global wide boycotts will shut them down.
Does no one else see the contradictions? Innocent small farmers protesting (among other things) "large farms" and yet all of the tractors are brand new John Deere tractors. The street protestors are supposed to be farmers, but can barely throw a bottle or a rock 20 yards without it looking like a silly attempt. American farmers are strong, work hard and can throw a rock out of a field they are about to plow 50 yards while looking like a major league pitcher. If they are lucky enough to own a John Deere, enclosed cab, full AC, radio, probably GPS guided - then they are either in debt ALOT or they are one of the "large farms" - or both. That said - I agree with the protests that I am being told are taking place.
