Cried when I was watching it originally, cried again as I saw this translation. God I wish I knew Japanese, I'm so moved by Korone sometimes. Really is difficult for me to keep at the studying, I deeply appreciate the translation thank you @holoism I played through this game probably 9 times throughout my life, 32y/o now and I got it when it originally came out.

They mentioned the prototype had a longer duration and when I played the game wasn't sure if that much time had passed when the ending takes place. Loads of comments I have read online mention they didn't initially know Vivi had died. From what I hear Vivi talks in a certain style in Japanese, so it was clear he was the one speaking in the finale narration. That style got lost in translation.
I also cried when toward the end. Include Vivi dying message, man that's rough if you don't cry... Even korone acting like princess garnet at the end it's cute.
The bests FFs for me are the ends of each gens Like IX for PS1, and VI for 8bit I really hope Squenix decide to do full remake on both of them, sadly, they only love VII
This may sound controversial but while Zidane was the protag, I always felt like this story was Vivi's life journey. The experiences and friends he made, the happy and sad times. I'm not taking anything from Zidane but I personally believe that regarding FF9 as Vivi's personal life story and journey just makes too much sense and the end is all about Vivi coming to realization how wonderful his life was. He found his answer to life, it's to just live and cherish that you are alive in the first place to have such experiences in the first place.
Similar like FFXII, in FFIX Zidane was POV character while most of the stories are regarding other characters, he get his own near the climax though... Vaan in FFIX share a similar role, a POV character, all the FFXII stories are regarding other characters...
I agree: Vivi's arguably the deuteragonist of this story, right behind Zidane as a POV for the player to experience the two friends' time on Gaia. The other six party members get their own stories and plot progression, but ultimately it's Vivi's story as viewed through Zidane's eyes - aside from those moments where Zidane's past takes center stage (Terra & the truth of his birth, as the main example).
I would say both Garnet and Vivi are more of a protagonist than Zidane. He was our leading man, but the story was more about them than it was about him.
Well, the protagonist must evolve during the story, even if it's a little, you see Vivi grow, evolve, become a dad, it makes It feel like he was the main hero all along.

I indulge myself in almost 2 years of trying to find something..just something to gives hopes that there's a secret ending. even resorted hacking it with gamesharks... the despair....

FF9 is one of the underrated Masterpiece in the franchise Especially with a few rooms to improve the stories (How Zidane and possibly Kuja survived, Vivi and Kuja's last moments, Steiner and Beatrix's relationship) I call it underrated since IIRC this game was released pretty close before PS2 was released and well.. It kinda overshadow the popularity

I've played the game many times and I don't remember ever seeing a grave. In fact I'm 99% there is not, because the first time I saw the ending I didn't actually realize it was implying Vivi had passed. Which is not uncommon from what I've read. If there was a grave there would be no ambiguity.

You are probably mixing the fmv where vivi is mourning one of the black mages on the ship (just before the black waltz 3 boss) and the scene at the graveyard in the black mage village.
Korone cries because she missed Vivi. Vinny stays silent while watching the ending, with only one line: "jesus..." and Clement reading the last lines spoke by Zidane and Garnet before the end credits. This is really was the end of classic FF in general.

Such a good game. I feel like 9 gets overlooked a lot and people are put off by the art style. I admit my favorite is still 6, but 9 is just amazing in a way that's difficult to put into words.

I don't mind getting spoiled like this for FF9 is the second FF that I play (Tactics is the first), then when I play the 4th disc (idk if it' s legit or not for having 4 discs just for 1 game at the time) it was corrupted so I was stuck when Alexandria is on fire.

They were thinking about making a sequel that would help on explaining the ending. Now, I read this in around 2002-2003 I don't even remember much about the article except this part, but perhaps if this game is going to be remade in the future, the ending might be changed a little bit. Perhaps giving explanations about Necron, perhaps about the lifespan of the Black Mages, or the summoner people. Glad they didn't manage to do it. I suppose the bankruptcy has its own plus.
From what I know Necron is supposed to represent death. Despite all the suffering and uncertainties, our heroes chose life and its struggles and they triumphed.

Final Fantasy 9 still has the best plot to this day, 7 without question comes next, but 9 just had so much more character development, they were just so much more fleshed out with their strengths, vulnerabilities, and character flaws. 7 really only got into clouds story and not too much into the rest of the crew. Sure like, Red 13 has his entire section, but it was basically thrown in there in one segment of the game, while 9 was setting up everybody from the point of their introduction. Don't get me wrong, 7 is still amazing in all regards. But 9 was just such a thoughtful amalgamation of everything that made the series so great, and was a great send off to the downard spiral FF was about to fall into.
dont think ff7 has a good story, i just replayed it a week ago and i finally realized the fact that ff7's story is so stupid, not as stupid as ff8's but its up there with ff5

It does tick me off that Squall never openly acknowledges Laguna as his dad....I always wished they'd have some serious back & forth, like with Squall getting PISSED at him for leaving him behind or him asking what happened to his mom. FF9 is pretty much unrelated to FF7 (most FF games are their own thing, with a few exceptions like XII and Tactics which are in the same world but different times). FF9 is the saddest of all of the FF games, in my opinion. Hard spoilers ahead if you really want to know why she was crying so hard > > > > > > > > > Her favorite character, by far, was the black mage Vivi, she literally started playing the game because she really liked his design. She got really attached to Vivi. In a certain point of the game, you learn that Vivi is kind of a doll/golem type of creature and that his lifespan is very short (1 year at most), so by the end of the game he's already dead, and leaves a letter with his last message. Korone still hoped they would find a way to keep Vivi alive, so the ending hit her like a truck.
It's so interesting how different people can have wildly different reactions to the same game. Korone is so engrossed in FFIX and touched by its ending. To me, this was the most forgettable FF I ever completed.

Personally, I live that Zidane went back for Kuja. Not like Cloud wanting to finish off Sephiroth, but so he didn't have to die alone
IX is simply the pinnacle of Final Fantasy, excellent story, memorable characters, beautiful music, great gameplay. Final Fantasy peaked here.

It's a beautiful game, I would rather not spoil it, but in simple terms, the MC reunited with his loved one after supposedly dying
FF9 is pretty much unrelated to FF7 (most FF games are their own thing, with a few exceptions like XII and Tactics which are in the same world but different times). FF9 is the saddest of all of the FF games, in my opinion. Hard spoilers ahead if you really want to know why she was crying so hard

Her favorite character, by far, was the black mage Vivi, she literally started playing the game because she really liked his design. She got really attached to Vivi. In a certain point of the game, you learn that Vivi is kind of a doll/golem type of creature and that his lifespan is very short (1 year at most), so by the end of the game he's already dead, and leaves a letter with his last message. Korone still hoped they would find a way to keep Vivi alive, so the ending hit her like a truck.
@@ElShogoso Amaranth (Salamander) was also her favorite. Feel free to play this game that is considered best FF of all by many fans.

There will be a tv show for kids, but no word on a remake as of yet, but I imagine with the success of 7, they’ll be looking at 9 or 6 afterwards
It's so interesting how different people can have wildly different reactions to the same game. Korone is so engrossed in FFIX and touched by its ending.
To me, this was the most forgettable FF I ever completed.
