"You want to be a professional impressionist." no. i just want to make my dungeons and dragons experience as the dungeon master so much more enjoyable for me and everyone else XD
As someone who struggles endlessly to get those deep notes in Morgan's voice.. I am amazed by how much of that deep saxaphone resonance you have actually subtracted from your impression of him over the years.
personally I’d love tutorials on all of them ;) - but specifically, I’d love Jesse Pinkman, Walter White, and Morgan Freeman 😊 btw, thanks for being such a great guy Charlie !!
Hey man, awesome work! I've been trying to do a proper Alfie Solomons for two years now, yet my best friend always tells me I'm terrible... Help me shut him up :D
Great series, I don’t aspire to be a professional it is just a cool skill to have like playing the guitar... also a great icebreaker for conversations and is great and easy entertainment for friends and family (and myself)
What helps me do voice impressions is that I observe the voice and listen to it until I can replicate that voice. Once I did a classmates voice by accident when I was 7 since I heard it so much.
Thanks, bro. I been growing in this game for a few months now, I am deeply enjoy it! Enjoying your lessons I will add them to my utility belt. I appreciated the fact that you shared some of the vocal recording equipment. Now yours truly will to invest in my own equipment. Deeply enjoying your work you're a true source of inspiration keep up the excellent work my friend.
Thanks so much for this series!!!!’ You are the best impressionist on youtube, only an expert can teach their expertise to others ☺️ such as yourself ☺️
I think about how our own voices develop, from the manner we speak and our accent. It changes over time. I think it's the same with impressions. You begin to talk like the one you're impersonating and over time your vocal cords can adapt and work just like theirs does.
I got a load of impressions (peridot, nejire, toga, draculaura, Mickey Mouse, probably a few more) I’m here to attempt a males voice (ryo from dmcb) whey 🤪
my dad caught me making voices alone in my room he asked and i confidently told him i am PRACTICING he looked for 5 seconds in the room then closed the door and left :p
I've seen videos of people whose voices can change so drastically they can do flawless impressions of women as well. As someone who often plays female characters in DnD, it's something I'd like to be able to try, if you can teach it.
I rly like his humour and the way the video is edited it rly made the video enjoyable and easy to watch. One of the best UA-cam videos I've seen in months 🔥
I just clicked back on your very first upload of the Warwick darts society Morgan Freeman impression... and it was nice to be able to hear that you weren't simply born with a Morgan freeman switch on the back of your head.... and now I am even more excited for part 2 of the tutorial.
.. 2 years....... looking back, is that unavoidably how long it took for the framework of skill to build or do you now see mistakes (or missing elements) that significantly slowed you down?
Well voice impressions and I go a long way back like 17years back. ( 17 years old now ) Now I'm ready to up my game from cartoons, movie characters, etc, to actual people in real life. You are the guy for the job so... Let's get it on.
Seeing this i remember seeing a tv variety show bit in the late 60’s early 70’s forget who it was but he demonstrated difference between impersonator and impressionist. I came here cause I was intrigued listening to Larry Storch voice Phineas J Whoopee in Tennessee Tuxedo impressioning Frank Morgan.
Charlie Hopkinson as I recall is was a matter of degree, and emphasis on personal quirks to get laughs. An impersonator could “do” Burt Lancaster; an impressionist will “out Burt Lancaster” Burt Lancaster. I’m sure there’s overlap. Rich Little as Nixon could be either I guess but that’s Nixon. Really like your video.
@@CharlieHopkinson Curious to know if you think/know about women who can do lots of male impersonations? Feels like that is very limiting as a woman but would love some inspiration! Thanks
@@getoutandshoot8496 Hey, every impressionist/vo artist is limited by their vocal range, so if trying to replicate men, most likely you would find it difficult to do anything beyond the higher pitched ones
I would like to learn more about how to learn and develop Morgan Freeman and maybe Nicholas Cage but M Freeman is my main focus. I am about 60% there. Thanks Steve Zook
The whole your voice sounds different to you thing is something I've known about for a while. But something I have never realized is what that means for impressionists. You get to hear what Morgan Freeman hears when he speaks. That seems so strange to me.
You are a rare case of someone who devolved a skill to a very high level being fully aware of the fact that has nothing to do with so called talent. Kudos!
yaaay oh man, this is already looking well organized. As for impressions i would recommend starting off with one that isn't a lower voice like morgan freeman or something too high, rather a pitch most people will find it easier to get to - to start off with - as then it's one fewer task we have to do. Maybe even Jesse Pinkman? If you feel it is one of your stronger impressions, which I think it is. Someone of that pitch, not too low or too high.
I will say, I am auditory dyslexic. So, I have to overly process when people speak just so I can understand them. So, sometimes the ability comes through struggle. It's often easier in my brain to recite a line by mimicking the voice and cadence of who I heard it from. Obviously has caused work related issues where I mimic my boss, back to my boss to confirm what he said... lol
I’ve always had fun doing impressions and people always tell me I’m really good. I never believed it but now after a good amount of practice. I think I can start doing some more voices that are more out of the box for me.
Sorry I didn't want to put you on blast or make an ass out of myself so I made this reply thread but anyways I was just going to say if you aren't already please start eqing your audio in your future videos.. I had to turn my phone volume up and down js not trying to be that guy its just I work with audio a lot and it's like I have to say something you know lol
My friends and I sit and have conversations with impressions, and my family always said that I have a good talent. So I’m good from that part😂. But there are impressions that I know I can do more but I always thought it’s based on someone’s voice of how low or high they can go. So I guess it’s really matter of muscle memory and practice and not just vocals …
I’m trying to do impressions like Yagami Yago so I can freak people out talking in the voice of the character I am at cons. Also messing with my friends.
Totally agree. The most important word you'd have in your arsenal is "apparently". As a guitarist and wannabe singer, emmulation is key. I can't for the life of me do an early Michael Caine but later maybe. I don't do Sean Connery because he's dead and the new Gen don't know him. Plus he's "noh Spanish, he's Egyptian." People like my "Trump" but he's not gonna be around the sooner the better so... I've been tryin out my Ohper Christ Lee since hearing you but I can't quite get the lower resonance. It comes from the mid throat and doesn't quite get the push of the diagphram. You've given me much joy, sir. Thanks! You're brilliant.

Pretty much
