- Learn the secrets behind the production of Shin Kamen Rider. A film that's been in the mind of Director Hideaki Anno since 2012.
I apologize for my audio recording in this. I'm currently dealing with a cough that's lingered for over a month now (I'm okay though, I'm slowly getting better). 8:15 fun bit of trivia that I think flew under most peoples radars. In the original series the actor who played Takeshi Hongo broke his leg doing a motorcycle stunt, which is why he was replaced so quickly by another actor. Looks like Hongo getting his leg broken while Rider 2 was being introduced was a direct reference to this.

I didn't know that the original actor for Ni-Go did not have a motorcycle license in the time of filming, that is why the 'henshin on bike' was omitted. I'm glad that in those series of misfortune (Ichigo broke his leg, replaced by Nigo with no driving license), it has changed the Kamen Rider series into what we know today.
This was a truly 10/10 movie not a second of screentime is wasted

6/10 for me. Although inconsistent, the henshin and some of the fights saved it. And when compared to Kamen Rider the First & Next, this remake is disappointing. Just an opinion. I still want them to succeed, so that they can do more or part 2. And just for the record, I'm a big fan of Showa era Kamen Rider (since 5yrs old, I'm 49 now).

9/10 for me, because they handled scorpion's fight poorly. No backstory for hiromi, and riruko change into lovey lovey mode to quickly. They should make 2 movies instead of one.
"Mask World" in the title of Anno's next project may refer to the title of the last chapter of the original manga.
I really hope that previous and upcoming Rider shows and movies will be available for Western audiences. Toei really is it's own worse enemy when it comes to expanding Kamen Rider 's audience.
Toei really needs to step up their game.
@@ayakuweb I still know why Toei won't have Kamen Rider available for to watch in the USA, after it aired in Japan. They always complain about Piracy but never have anything available to legally watch and financially support
@@jonathanmulondo9206 And when they do give us stuff, they cheap out on translation and writing quality and quantity. Just look at the 01 comic, the official Kuuga and Ichigo manga translations. Then they come to the wrong conclusion that Rider must not be taking off because it's not popular in the west. No, you morons, it's because you're only doing the bare minimum while taking down clips of the show on YT. Literally reducing exposure.
Remember that they decided to air Fuuto Pi, an anime sequel to a show a lot of people don't even have access to in the west.
I just chalk it up to old Japanese CEOs being stingy and stupid AF, just like how Nintendo handles fan content.
@@jonathanmulondo9206 what i find even weirder is Tsuburaya goes out of their way to expand Ultraman overseas and it has really been profitable for them so I don't get why Toei wouldn't want to aswell.
@@FatAngusit might because of previous experiences with Saban cuz when saban Masked Rider was airing, it was horrible, and the other is dragon knight which didn’t profit too well so that Toei just thought that Super Sentai is more profitable in the West thanks to PR and on the topic of PR most ppl is more familiar with PR which could cause ppl to KR “ripoff PR” I means we saw wut happened with Fuuto PI when anime viewer watch they call it “ripoff PR”.
Came out of the second showing of this movie yesterday and god damn it was so much fun as a fan, and even my partner, who isn’t as into Rider, said they’re more interested now. Which I think is the effect between the two audiences. Overall, this was such a blast to finally see.
Wow, your friend has to be special since everyone who was unfamiliar with Kamen Rider I see on other review, said they are not interested on Kamen Rider XD
Not gonna be a popular opinion, but I liked every fight in this film, the Tunnel (bike and hand to hand combat) are definitely my favorite because unlike others, I can see every moments in theater XD
And the darkness really make the Phrase Batta Augments(Shocker Rider) feel like a threat instead of the original
The NEXT Shocker Rider bar fight pretty much are my favorite for the same reason: hard to distinguish the good Rider and the bad one add the tension
this movie was fantastic. i read the prequel manga (its still ongoing, vol. 3 just started) and its providing a ton of context for SHOCKER and this film feels like a climax to a much bigger story.
Thanks for watching! I'm enjoying the prequel manga so far. And if there's a sequel film to Shin Kamen Rider, that there's a prequel manga for that as well. There's a lot to explore in the Showa Rider series, and I hope we get to see all that retold one day.
Bat-Aug has drones that guard his lair as he develops his SHOCKER Virus (their concept art appears at 5:31) who get gunned down by Ruriko after a brief encounter with K. When defeated, their blocky heads reveal to simply be stacked plates that slide off of each other. This is likely a reference to Wakkaman, a killer robot created by BAD from the first episodes of *Robot Detective K,* whose gimmick is being made of flat iron weights that stack to make his form.

This is truly a masterpiece film in my humble opinion. Pure art and soul.
I can not wait to see this film in the US on Wednesday and June 5th Monday. It’s my most anticipated film this year. Anno is taking a rest at the moment. Hopefully he get on with it with Masked World soon. Hopefully he learned his lesson with this film and bring it to the sequel. I heard about the dark fight scene and not so good finale battle with Rider 0. Hopefully I somehow love it when I do see it. Kamen Rider is my number 1 hero as a kid. I want more films of it. 😅

Ngl, if they wanted a sequel from the shin universe, they should make Shin Kamen Rider 2 first

The Masked World(Yes that's the official potential sequel name) is gonna be way more focused on politic like Shin Ultra and Gojira since Anno will take element from the 1971 manga last chapter with the same name
love the scenes where they made nods and references to the original 1971 kamen rider. however it uses alot of CGI fights and has very little non CGI fight scenes. it is also very rushed and the plot goes way too fast. I get it, you cant cover all 98 episodes. so you somehow have to compress it to be able to be a 2 hour movie. this movie was alright, but it would've been better if it didnt use alot of CGI fight scenes and more non CGI fight scenes just like the 2005 and 2007 kamen rider version. those fight scenes were awesome as hell. also wished that they would slow down the plot a bit and not rush through it all. let us the audience take some time to digest the plot and cover more of the characters background stories and im not just talking about the main characters.
A sequel? Hope we get to see the top officers of Shocker soon, like Ambassador Hell, Dr. Death and Colonel Zol.
Did you like the final battle also do you think when this film get a home release and when we crank up the brightness that it’ll help with the dark fight in the tunnels? Lol
Thanks for your question! I thought the final battle was okay. Honestly my least favorite fight. My favorite fights are the Wasp-Augment vs #1, and #1 vs #2 fight.
And yes, I'm hoping we'll be able to see that tunnel fight in the home release when we crank up the brightness haha
As someone who didn't watch Kaman rider I fought it was a pretty cool adaptation . Would we get a Shin Super Sentai

Thank you for your comment. As far as I know, there has been no update since Anno announced the name of Shin Kamen Rider's potential sequel. Whether this sequel gets made or not is really up to the people in charge like Toei.

Any explanation why that action scene vs the mass produced batta augments was so dang dark? You can barely make out what was going on. I know it was probably mostly CG and wanted to hide that fact under darkness but you can’t even see what was happening. Kinda wish they kept that practical or just lighten it up a tad 😑
That's a really good question. My only guess is because of time and budget. A lot of of those scene cuts in the dark were actually filmed practically. You can see them in this Behind-the-Scenes Feature from the Official Shin Kamen Rider Twitter account:

Dang Anno really dropped the ball with the action scenes. I can understand he wanted a more brutal Kamen Rider, but the fights needed at least some choreography instead of the guys just flailing around infront of the camera or a very dark cgi tunnel.
Thank you for your comment. I really liked the Wasp Augment fight scene. Anno really underestimated the need for pre-visualizations in the planning stages.
@@ayakuweb Yes I really enjoyed the opening fights and the Wasp-aug confrontation, but I think the later fights needed more development. The Rider 1 and 2 fight could have been better if it was 2 guys brawling it out instead of them being 3D models repeating the same few frames of punches and kicks.
I think I would have loved Wasp-aug getting more screen time and being more of a secondary villain due to her connection to Ruriko.
The tunnel fight, definitely needed something better lightning.
The final battle's final stage? I think the camerawork was supposed to be similar to that of a similar struggle in Episode 1, with Kamen Rider and Man Spider rolling on the ground. If it was, I think they needed to pull into the fight to sell its desperation. I'm not sure the fact that they were fighting on low prana, and thus were on par with humans, was fully sold. But it definitely had a mind to subvert the Final Battle trope, just as Shin Ultraman and Evangelion 3.0+1.0 did: to have a much-needed talk with the antagonist.
I think if I had watched your video first, I probably would have enjoyed the film more. I'm kind of surprised that he might want to make a sequel to this, when I would be way more interested in a Shin Gamera, or a Shin Super Sentai/Gorenger.

Loved it and kinda sad that it was so rushed. 2 hours and 15 minutes of rushed story telling. honestly it should've been a series instead.

Shin Kikaider would be cool too. I have a feeling K will become Kikaider because one of the concept arts behind his design sorta looks like Kikaider (half red, and half blue). I'll post the photos in my Community board later.

The plot will now focus on Ichimonji battle againist SHOCKER, who have support from Government officials, who desire to create similar AI from the organization

This movie was awful. I saw the poster of it and thought it looked pretty cool. I had seen some kamen rider stuff before and enjoyed it enough to give this movie a try, especially after seeing that it was made by the creator of evangelion. I was pretty excited to see it now and was at least expecting some cool tokusatsu fights. But once the movie got through the first maybe 10-15 minutes I could tell I wasn’t going to have any fun with this film. The fights were nothing like the tokusatsu stuff I had seen before, it was just a bunch of ugly cgi nonsense that wouldn’t even be acceptable for a tv show 20 years ago. The characters were probably the worst part tho, they were unbearable and a good example of why anime like dialogue and characteristics don’t work in real life. It was just really cringe watching them interact with each other. Then there were the 50 cuts a second during every fight. It was just a mess it almost gave me a headache. Also the villains couldn’t have been more generic if they tried. The fact it was 2 hours was just the worst. I don’t think I’ve had a worse experience with any other piece of media than this one.
